Chapter 3 The Forest Across the Way

The insects' music seemed to intensify slightly in the night, and a cool breeze ruffled the rabbit's brown fur.

It's fluffy and kind of cute.

At this moment, the rabbit was focused on enjoying the delicious grass juice, unaware of the subtle changes around it, and was still carefully selecting its next meal.

Suddenly, a slight rustling sound of bushes and leaves startled it.

Startled, its long, alert ears snapped upright.

A figure as swift as lightning appeared behind the hare, like a bolt of lightning suddenly appearing during a thunderstorm, abrupt and rapid.

The instinct for survival prompted the hare to instantly launch its hind legs, propelling its body out like a cannonball.

Danger is imminent! It must escape at all costs!

However, the mother tiger's pounce was incredibly accurate, and her seasoned hunting skills made it almost effortless for her to deal with such cute and weak prey.

The rabbit's escape plan had barely flashed through its mind when it was already powerless to resist its fate.

The powerful tiger claws instantly pressed down on the rabbit's head, and its three-lobed mouth, which was still tightly biting the tender leaves, opened and closed unconsciously in a daze.

With a powerful swipe of its claws, the tiger snapped the fragile life in an instant.

Perhaps if the rabbit had been a little more alert, it could have escaped into a pre-discovered tree hole or a pre-dug rabbit burrow and saved its life.

But obviously, this is only a possibility.

Tiger Mom glanced around and decided to eat there.

Killing such small prey requires little effort; it's practically effortless.

Tiger Mom's targets were never small creatures like rabbits; they were merely sweet treats on her hunting journey.

The little rabbit quickly disappeared into the tiger mother's belly; the rabbit meat tasted quite good. She was happy to catch such a cute little creature and bring it back for her children to eat.

But now, she needs to fill her stomach first.

If she encounters another unlucky little creature on the way back, she will definitely take it back with her.

After finishing the whole rabbit, the crimson tip of its tongue licked the blood off its mouth and paws as if savoring the taste.

The delicious meat entered her stomach, but her hunger was not relieved much; she craved more food.

With her thoughts on the cubs in the cave, the mother tiger quickly quickened her pace and headed towards the familiar hunting grounds.

Moonlight spilled into the forest, dappling the dense canopy with its rays.

The quiet early summer night is like a sleeping princess, with death looming beneath her beauty.

Inside the tiger's den, the tiger cubs were already fast asleep, but Lin Qian, still drowsy, remained vigilant.

He tried his best to stay alert, but his young body grew increasingly tired; he was too young to sustain such exertion.

But he dared not sleep, fearing that he would be wiped out in his sleep by other predators in the forest.

He usually stays here like this when Tiger Mom isn't home.

At first, he couldn't stay awake and would fall asleep halfway through, but he would wake up again before Tiger Mom came back and continue to watch over her.

Lin Qian didn't know if it would work, but it was the only thing he could persist in doing right now.

Under the dark night sky, all he could do was pray that Tiger Mom would return soon so he could finally get a good night's sleep.

Lin Qian's prayers were probably not heard by the gods in the forest.

Tiger Mom's hunt tonight was not going well; she traversed a large area of territory but failed to catch any more prey.

Because of the cubs, the mother tiger dared not stray too far from the den, limiting her hunting range.

Hunting is not an easy task; even the Siberian tiger, which is at the top of the food chain, has a success rate of less than 30%.

In this cruel forest, every animal is doing its best to survive.

Weak animals do everything they can to save their lives, because they cannot fight against powerful predators. They hide and conceal themselves, and finding them is not as easy as one might imagine.

Predators, in addition to needing superb hunting skills and enough patience, often also need luck.

The brutality of the hunt is vividly displayed in the forest.

Weak herbivores often look pitiful and innocent; they are naturally weak and more likely to evoke pity.

But even carnivores don't have it easy. They also put in all their efforts to survive and meet their needs.

Herbivores are not always docile and kind.

When faced with life-or-death situations, they can cruelly abandon their companions, and when encountering predators, they will not hesitate to abandon the group to survive.

When survival is at stake, they can also turn their aggressive horns toward their own kind to compete for status, mates, and reproduction.

These brutal struggles are also vividly displayed among herbivores.

Survival is inherently brutal and cruel; under this sky, the weight of any life is the same.

"Gurgle—"

The calls of birds that come out at night pierce through the thick treetops, their ghostly sounds echoing through the quiet night.

If you listen closely, you can even hear the sound of the wind generated by the flapping of those powerful wings.

The tiger mother looked up, peering through the tree canopy at the dark sky. Her tiger paws twitched anxiously as the deepest part of the night arrived.

The alert herbivores relaxed slightly at this moment. After being on guard all day, this was a rare opportunity to relax, though it was very brief.

Because by this time, most of the fierce predators have already caught their prey and are preparing to return to their nests to sleep.

Predators that have caught nothing will mostly return to their dens, enduring hunger and waiting for the next night to arrive.

Tiger Mom hesitated for a moment, but did not choose to go back.

The tigress with three cubs dared not easily give up the opportunity to hunt.
