Chapter 246 Crisis Arrives

Outside the Bingzhou camp, upon learning that Dong Zhuo was about to leave and return to Liangzhou, a group of generals came to bid him farewell.

Dong Zhuo cupped his hands towards the assembled officers and said, "This parting is our last! Take care, everyone!"

"Take care, Zhongying. You are welcome to visit Bingzhou anytime!"

"Yes, I'll catch you a Hun woman to entertain you then!"

"Haha~ With Zhongying's build, one isn't enough!"

"Yeah! We need at least four or five, don't you think?"

"Yes, yes, yes!! Haha~"

Everyone burst into laughter. What was originally a pleasant farewell turned into a conversation about mothers and children.

"Hmph~ You bunch of guys!! You don't even have wives yourselves, and you're thinking of finding one for me?"

Hearing the jeers of the crowd, Dong Zhuo's face darkened, and he immediately retorted!

"Uh~"

Everyone was taken aback for no apparent reason; they were unable to refute Dong Zhuo's words.

"It's getting late, I'll take my leave now. Take care, everyone!"

"Take care, Zhongying!"

Dong Zhuo nodded to the crowd, then turned and led his soldiers at breakneck speed toward Zhangye.

......

On the other side, Lü Bu, under orders, led five thousand Bingzhou wolf cavalry. After leaving the Bingzhou camp, he followed the route provided by the scouts and charged at full speed towards the Jie cavalry.

At this point, almost two hours had passed since they left the Bingzhou camp.

Suddenly, a black dot appeared in Lu Bu's line of sight not far to the northwest. It was the scout team that Lu Bu had sent out to gather information.

"stop!!"

After shouting, Lü Bu raised his halberd.

The messengers beside him also hurriedly took off the horns from their waists.

"Woo~ woo~ woo~~"

Immediately, a mournful yet rhythmic horn call resounded throughout the entire column.

Upon hearing the order, the soldiers pulled on the reins and slowed down, and soon the column came to a halt.

"Report!!"

Before long, the scout arrived in front of Lü Bu.

"Reporting to the general, that Shi Kingdom army is less than forty li away from the western tribes of the Southern Xiongnu!"

"Alright! Let's explore further!"

"promise!!"

After the scouts left, Lü Bu looked at a guide beside him and asked, "How far are we from the Southern Xiongnu tribe?"

The guide looked around and then said, "Reporting to the general, we are still about forty li away from there!"

"Um!"

Lu Bu nodded, then looked at the group of soldiers behind him who were already somewhat tired.

"The entire army shall dismount and rest. We will depart in one hour!"

At Lü Bu's command, the soldiers began to water their horses and then quickly set up cooking pots.

"General, if we set off an hour later, by the time we arrive, the Shi Kingdom's army will probably have already breached the Southern Xiongnu tribe! Won't it be too late then?"

Cheng Lian approached Lü Bu with a puzzled expression. He really didn't understand why Lü Bu would suddenly order a rest. Shouldn't they have charged forward and wiped them out in one fell swoop?

Is it too late?

Lu Bu smiled and said, "This group from Shi Kingdom is definitely heading for plunder. They can't go very fast with their cattle, sheep, and supplies. We can catch up with them!"

Lu Bu then shared his analysis with Cheng Lian, but he made no mention of the raids on the Southern Xiongnu.

Cheng Lian, who was standing to the side, nodded almost imperceptibly, now understanding Lü Bu's intention.

In fact, Cheng Lian's thoughts were similar to Lü Bu's. As long as they weren't targeting the people of the Han Dynasty, they could do whatever they wanted, but of course, they would do whatever was in my favor.

After resting for an hour, the scouts sent out came to Lü Bu again.

"Reporting to the General, before I returned, the Shi Kingdom's troops were less than ten miles away from the Southern Xiongnu tribe, and they should have already launched an attack on the Southern Xiongnu tribe!"

"Yes, very good!"

Lu Bu nodded, then looked at the messenger beside him, "Send word to the whole army, let's set off!"

"promise!"

As the bugle calls sounded, five thousand Bingzhou wolf cavalrymen followed behind Lü Bu, slowly making their way towards the Jie people.

On the other side, about two hundred miles northwest of Shuofang, there is a medium-sized tribe with a population of about four thousand.

It was just past noon, and today happened to be the day of their tribe's annual ancestor worship ceremony. All the people in the tribe had gathered in an open space in the center of the tribe.

Young men and women, along with children, gathered around huge bonfires, singing unknown songs and dancing around the fire.

All around them were rows of makeshift tables, on which were laid out a sumptuous feast of food and wine brought from their homes.

Behind the table sat elderly people and people of high status from the tribe.

Watching the young people and children singing and dancing around the campfire, everyone's face was filled with joyful smiles. The people behind the table also began to drink heartily and enjoy the rare feast.

Behind a table in the very center sat about a dozen tribal leaders.

A middle-aged man looked at an old man beside him and said with a smile, "Chieftain, thanks to the protection of the gods this winter, we did not suffer from a snow disaster. Most of the cattle and sheep in our tribe survived, and next year we can exchange them for more supplies from the Han!"

The elderly man, addressed as the clan chief, stroked his white beard and chuckled, saying:
