Seeing the Han army getting closer and closer, Wang Chen excitedly led his remaining troops to meet them.
Upon seeing Wang Chen and his men approaching, Lü Bu immediately ordered his entire army to halt their advance.
When Wang Chen and the others arrived, Lü Bu rode forward and shouted:
"I am Lü Bu, Military Commander under the General Who Protects the Xiongnu of the Han Dynasty! I have been ordered to intercept and kill a suddenly appearing enemy force. Who are you, and why are you blocking our way?"
Upon hearing Lü Bu's question, Wang Chen immediately dismounted, tears welling in his eyes, and knelt before Lü Bu with a grief-stricken expression, sobbing as he said:
"General Lü, the invading forces you mentioned have already stormed into our tribe. We were only able to escape thanks to the protection of the gods, and we were just about to seek refuge in the Han Dynasty. Please, General, save us!!"
"What?! They've already attacked your tribe?"
Lu Bu looked at Wang Chen with surprise, then asked, "Where are the rest of your tribe?"
Wang Chen shook his head blankly, and sobbed, "They're all dead! Everyone else is dead except for us!!"
"You bastards! Don't you Southern Xiongnu people belong to our Great Han? How dare you attack us? This is an utter disgrace to the might of our Great Han! We cannot forgive you!"
Seeing Wang Chen's miserable state, Lü Bu was furious.
Then Lü Bu looked down at Wang Chen and the remaining soldiers behind him, and said in a deep voice, "Don't worry, our Han army will avenge you!"
"Thank you, General!!"
Wang Chen and the remaining Southern Xiongnu looked at Lü Bu with gratitude.
Lü Bu: "No need for thanks! You must be exhausted from your long journey. Why don't you rest here first, and leave the rest to us!"
"No!!"
Wang Chen raised his head, looked at Lü Bu with a resolute expression, and said in a deep voice, "Please allow me to follow you, General Lü, to avenge the victims of our tribe!"
"Please, General, spare us! We want our revenge!"
Wang Chen's remaining subordinates all looked at Lü Bu.
"Oh well!"
Seeing Wang Chen's stubborn gaze and the pleading of the Southern Xiongnu soldiers, Lü Bu reluctantly nodded and agreed to their request.
Cheng Lian stared blankly at Lü Bu, realizing that he had never noticed before that Lü Bu, who was usually so serious, could actually be such a skilled actor.
Just then, the sound of hooves came from not far away. Everyone looked closely and saw a cavalry force galloping towards them. This cavalry force was the same Jie people who had been chasing Wang Chen and his group.
Upon seeing the Jie cavalry appear in their line of sight, Lü Bu addressed Wang Chen and the others, shouting, "Mount your warhorses! Draw your swords and join me in slaughtering them all!!"
"promise!!"
Wang Chen immediately mounted his horse, placed the child on the ground, and then drew his curved sword. Wang Chen and the Southern Xiongnu soldiers turned their horses around to look at the Jie people pursuing them, their eyes filled with hatred.
"Follow me and kill them!!"
Immediately, Lü Bu shouted loudly, pointing his halberd at the approaching Jie pursuers.
"kill!!"
Everyone shouted in response, urging their warhorses to follow behind Lü Bu and charge towards the Jie cavalry.
"Whoa!"
At this moment, the Jie pursuers also spotted the Han cavalry charging from not far away, and they all pulled on their reins and stopped advancing.
Seeing the dark mass of Han cavalry charging towards them from afar, the Jie leader was terrified. The opposing cavalry outnumbered them several times over, and charging forward would surely mean certain death. Escape might offer a sliver of hope.
"Retreat immediately!!"
Run!
After shouting, the Jie pursuers hurriedly turned their horses around and fled back the way they came.
"Um?"
Seeing that the enemy had chosen to turn tail and run immediately, Lü Bu sneered, "Hmph~ These cowards!! Trying to escape? Not so easy!"
"Bingzhou Wolf Cavalry, charge!!"
After shouting, Lü Bu slammed his legs into the horse's belly, and the horse, in pain, immediately charged forward.
Wang Chen and the others, along with the five thousand soldiers behind him, spurred their warhorses to follow closely behind Lü Bu.
The Jie cavalry, though they were urging their horses on with all their might, were struggling to escape after the long run and pursuit, and their horses' stamina was clearly not keeping up with their desire to survive.
Gradually, Lü Bu and his men caught up to within two hundred meters of the Jie cavalry.
The Bingzhou wolf cavalry, with more than 300 crossbowmen charging on both flanks, also took off their crossbows and aimed them at the backs of the fleeing Jie cavalry.
"Release the arrows!!"
At Lü Bu's command, the crossbowmen pulled their triggers, and thousands of crossbow bolts whistled as they rained down on the Jie cavalry.
"Ahhh!!"
As screams of agony rang out, hundreds of Jie cavalrymen at the rear were struck by arrows and fell from their horses.
The Bingzhou wolf cavalry continued their pursuit without pause, and in an instant, the corpses of the Jie people were trampled into piles of minced meat under their iron hooves.
Hearing the commotion behind them, the Jie cavalrymen once again spurred their horses on, trying to escape.
But fate was against them. The Jie people's warhorses were exhausted. No matter how hard they whipped them, their speed not only did not increase, but they ran slower and slower. Many of the warhorses in front even stumbled and fell to the ground, hindering the fleeing people behind them.
The speed at which the Jie people fled immediately slowed down.
At this moment, Lü Bu had already charged forward, taking the lead.
