Chapter 36 Destined "Is his name Li Wei?"
The sound from the earphones was unclear, so Li Xi took them off and when he looked down at the audience, the glow sticks suddenly lost their color.
Feeling puzzled, he turned to look for the members, but his sight seemed to be blocked by something and he could not see anything clearly.
He walked towards the main stage. The extension platform was unexpectedly long and the ground was shaky. He felt like he was walking on glass and had the illusion that the ground under his feet would break at any time.
But it was not an illusion. When he was about to reach the main stage, his feet slipped and he fell to the ground.
It hurts so much, my whole body feels like it's broken into pieces, or like it's been crushed. Li Xi tried hard to open his eyes. He saw Tang Ruining standing at the edge of the stage, looking down at him. The look in his eyes was as cold as when they first met.
Li Xi stretched out his hand towards him but was not caught. He saw that his outstretched hand was covered in blood, which was still flowing down, almost covering his entire arm.
Why is there so much blood?
He opened his mouth but no sound came out. He wanted to get up but he had no strength, as if he was nailed to the ground. He knew that if he continued bleeding he would die. He could clearly feel the life slipping away and struggling to escape from his body.
Li Xi used up his last bit of strength and finally made a sound, shouting "Tang Ruining" in his hoarse throat, but no one responded, and the face of the person standing above him also became blurred.
He called out again, and this time he finally heard a faint response, but it was not his own name. Li Xi listened for a few times and it seemed that the person being called was "Yilan".
Who is Yilan…?
Li Xi opened his eyes and saw that the indifferent bystander in his dream was now hugging him. Completely different from the dream, Tang Ruining was looking at him with worried eyes.
It's a dream.
Li Xi felt a little numb, his limbs were warming up, and the feeling of suffocation in the dream was not going away so quickly. He took a deep breath.
Tang Ruining touched his face gently, "Did you have a nightmare?"
"Um."
"What did you dream about?"
I haven’t had this kind of dream for a long time. It feels like I’ve survived a disaster. Li Xi breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I dreamed... that I was dead."
Tang Ruining froze, and the hand that was caressing his face also stopped.
Li Xi regretted her frankness and comforted him: "It's okay, it's all fake. Dreams are the opposite, right?"
"Yes." Tang Ruining hugged him.
Li Xi couldn't fall asleep for a while. He felt uneasy and Tang Ruining was also awake. He lay on his side and looked at him.
"Can't sleep?" Li Wei asked, smiling softly, "Shall I sing you a lullaby?"
"You couldn't sleep either." Tang Ruining hooked his finger and said, "I called you just now but you couldn't wake up. You scared me."
In the past, when he had this kind of dream, it would take him a while to fall asleep again after waking up, but he could only digest it slowly by himself, and the fragments in the dream would always replay when he closed his eyes. Now that Tang Ruining was by his side, he was able to pull himself out of the dream much faster. He hooked his hand back into Tang Ruining's, the familiar warmth and touch made him feel at ease.
"It's quite scary." Li Xi circled his finger, "I don't know why I had this dream."
After a moment of silence, Tang Ruining said slowly, "I dreamed a few days ago that we were on a date outside, eating and shopping, and no one recognized us. We went to the cinema to watch a movie, but before it was over, I dragged you away, and you were still holding popcorn, and asked me why you were leaving because you hadn't finished eating yet?"
Li Xi imagined that scene and asked, "Why do you want to leave?"
"Because it's not good to watch, I don't know what's going on, it's a waste of time."
"But dating is just two people wasting time together," Li said. "You don't have to watch exciting movies or eat delicious meals. If you see a bad movie, you can complain about it together. If you eat something bad, remember not to go next time."
Tang Ruining thought about it and realized that he might really do something like wanting to leave the movie halfway through, which would really ruin the mood.
"Dating me would probably be boring."
"How come? I never thought it was boring to be with you."
"Really."
Li Wei nodded, and said sincerely: "I won't lie to you."
But unfortunately, they cannot realize their wish of going out together to watch movies, go shopping or date in the short term.
Tang Ruining said: "Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if we were not public figures."
"If we weren't public figures, would we still know each other?"
"Yes, there will be opportunities to get to know each other if we work in other industries, and maybe we will meet earlier." His tone was inexplicably firm, as if he really believed that they were destined to be together.
Li Xi smiled, and recalled a To5 Q&A session she had seen before, which asked the members what careers they would like to pursue if they were not idols. Tang Ruining said he wanted to be a great dance teacher and open his own dance studio.
“Maybe you’re a dance teacher somewhere, and I pass by and get your flyer, and you’re printed in the very center. I’ll think: ‘Wow, where did this teacher come from who’s so handsome!’”
"Then come and sign up for my class?"
"Hmm... let's think about it." Li Xi pretended to think, "If I'm busy working and don't have the time to take up dancing as a hobby, then we'll see each other next time if we're lucky enough."
"Why are you working as a laborer? You wouldn't be working if you didn't become an idol." Tang Ruining corrected him, "You should go to the dance studio and ask me to be your private dance teacher."
I almost forgot that Jiang Yilan couldn't possibly go to work. Li Xi opened her eyes slightly and looked at him, "You're dreaming."
Tang Ruining fought for himself: "I don't want a salary."
"Paying for teaching?"
"Yes." Tang Ruining responded seriously, "I come to teach you every day, even if you don't want to."
"Oh, is this a forced sale?"
"Yes, you will not be allowed to withdraw from the course for the rest of your life."
Li Xi laughed, Tang Ruining propped himself up and touched his face again, from his smiling eyebrows down to his eyes, as if no matter how much he touched, it was not enough.
Looking into his eyes, Li Wei said, "In fact, we also have the opportunity to date outside. We can find a time in the future to travel abroad to a place where no one knows us."
"Okay." Tang Ruining responded immediately, and emphasized: "It's just the two of us."
"Of course, it's just the two of us."
They fell asleep while chatting. When Li Wei woke up the next morning, Tang Ruining was no longer in bed. She left him a WeChat message saying that she had gone for a run.
Tang Ruining went to the pancake shop again.
The shop owners are a middle-aged couple who are not familiar with young starlets. The woman handed the packed pancake to Tang Ruining, took a look at his face, and said happily: "Hey, you look a lot like the guy on the billboard across the street."
The couple faced the billboard every day. Tang Ruining turned around and saw that it was a beverage brand they endorsed and the contract was about to expire. He turned back calmly and said, "Well, many people say that."
The man also compared them several times and said, "Yes, they are a bit similar, but you are more handsome, young man. Those celebrities are all packaged, right?"
Other people came to buy pancakes later. Tang Ruining smiled at the couple and said, "Thank you." Then he left with the pancakes.
He walked downstairs and met a person holding a cardboard box. He looked familiar. It must be the trainee.
The man walked forward with his head down. Tang Ruining glanced at the cardboard box as he passed by and was attracted by a bottle of perfume inside.
It was the same bottle as the one on Jiang Yilan's desk.
This was not a common brand of perfume they used. Tang Ruining felt strange and looked at the man a few more times.
The man noticed the sight, looked up and saw Tang Ruining, and greeted him a little nervously, "Hello, senior."
"Are the things in this box yours?" Tang Ruining asked.
"Oh no, this, is my roommate's...former roommate." His voice gradually became lower.
"Who was your old roommate?"
His expression darkened, "He is no longer alive." After hesitating for a moment, he said, "He almost debuted with you..."
Tang Ruining was stunned, and a very strange feeling rose in his heart. He asked: "Is his name Li Wei?"
The man looked up, his eyes brightened a little, "So you still remember his name."
"Can I see what's in the box?" Tang Ruining asked, feeling inexplicably short of breath.
"Sure." He gently put the box on the ground and said, "Most of the things have been taken away by his family, but there are still some small pieces left. The new trainee who moved in wanted to throw them away, so I thought I should sort them out and send them to his family, that is, his sister."
In addition to the half-used perfume, there was also a portable water cup, a small metal box, and some papers.
Tang Ruining took out the papers, flipped them open and saw that they were guitar tabs.
Tang Ruining had also seen this song in Jiang Yilan's piano score. It was not a very popular song. There were familiar markings on the music score, and Tang Ruining recognized the handwriting at a glance. The way the notes were erased was by crossing six slashes.
Tang Ruining's hands were shaking so much that he could hardly hold the light pieces of paper. He looked to the lower right corner, where the signature of the owner of the score was.
It’s the character “Li”.
