Chapter 520 Gradually Declining

Lan Jingtang is good at understanding people's hearts, and he is an expert in astronomy, geography, and medicine. For someone like him, it's just a matter of whether he wants to make a name for himself or not.

But now, the Lan family mansion is deserted and desolate. Apart from Sanqi, there is no one to take care of him.

An Yuan'er sighed, feeling a pang of sadness in her heart.

In her eyes, Lan Jingtang shouldn't be like this. When she first met him, he was carefree and unrestrained, like a celestial being, unaware of the mundane world, and his words were filled with his principles and reasoning.

But now, that carefree and unrestrained physician has fallen into the clutches of the imperial court, becoming a bargaining chip in the balance of power.

He didn't want to do it, but many people forced him to do things he didn't want to do.

Sanqi pushed open the door, and An Yuan'er looked up, her gaze meeting that of the person on the bed.

His hands and feet were bandaged, and his face was pale, almost bloodless. He was weak, but he smiled at An Yuan'er and said softly, "You've come."

These three words were spoken so naturally, as if they were a casual greeting to a long-lost friend.

Doctors know best how to protect themselves, yet he injured himself into this state. His nose stung, but An Yuan'er held back her tears.

She suppressed her emotions and tried to answer calmly, "Yes! I came to see you."

Beneath their calm conversation lay a turbulent undercurrent of suppressed emotions.

Lan Jingtang didn't want An Yuan'er to worry, so he tried his best to act normal. An Yuan'er cooperated with him, not wanting to embarrass him.

Beside the bed, there was a porridge that had only been partially consumed.

An Yuan'er naturally took the spoon and fed Lan Jingtang with it.

Lan Jingtang looked a little flustered, his ears turning red. He looked away and said, "Xiao Yuan'er, I can drink it myself."

An Yuan'er raised an eyebrow: "Oh? Then you do it."

Lan Jingtang took a breath, but his hands were heavily bound, making them clumsy and unable to hold the spoon steady.

I tried several times, but failed, and most of the porridge spilled out.

Despite his serious injuries, An Yuan'er noticed fine beads of sweat on Lan Jingtang's forehead as he moved. The more hurried he became, the more porridge he spilled.

He was much more seriously injured than she had imagined. And this guy was still putting on a brave face.

An Yuan'er took the bowl back and fed him the medicine.

This time, Lan Jingtang realized he couldn't drink it all and had to accept An Yuan'er's help.

He frowned: "Xiao Yuan'er, you did this on purpose."

Knowing full well that he couldn't drink it himself, An Yuan'er still made him try, just to see him embarrass himself.

"I'm telling you not to be reckless. Lan Jingtang, aren't we friends? You're injured like this and need help, why didn't you tell me? If I hadn't come today, how long would you have kept it a secret?"

Lan Jingtang only saw the girl in front of him, rambling on and on about his faults. He listened, but for some reason, even though he had no sense of taste, he found the porridge to be sweeter than ever before.

Lan Jingtang himself didn't realize that the corners of his lips had been turned up ever since the girl appeared.

The pain from his injuries was still there, but when the girl came, a different kind of emotion replaced the pain; instead, there was an indescribable sense of satisfaction.

Sanqi watched from the side, noticing the undisguised smile on her master's face.

He was conflicted, but he still silently withdrew.

Human emotions cannot be lied to. Sanqi had no choice but to watch his master, deeply mired in "eternal damnation".

There are always people who are like moths to a flame, knowing full well that it's hell, yet still heading forward.

Lan Jingtang was fully aware of his own gradual decline. Yet, he accepted it with a sense of satisfaction.
