Chapter 239 Throwing Out the Chips

When they reached the top of the mountain, An Yuan'er was completely exhausted.

She immediately took off her basket, lay down on the ground in a spread-eagle position, and muttered, "I'm so tired, so tired."

Lan Jingtang looked at An Yuan'er. Her face was flushed from climbing the mountain, and sweat was dripping from her forehead onto her fair cheeks. Even so, the young man in front of him did not look disheveled. Instead, he had an indescribable charm.

This kid is just like a girl, with delicate skin, red lips, and white teeth.

Lan Jingtang's gaze fell on An Yuan'er's shoulder. The basket was too heavy and kept rubbing against her skin. He could vaguely see bloodstains on An Yuan'er's clothes.

"That idiot!"

Lan Jingtang wasn't the type to make things difficult for people; he wouldn't have acted this way if An Yuan'er hadn't refused to leave.

He suddenly became curious. He sat down next to An Yuan'er and asked him, "I've never asked you this before. You went to great lengths to create this chance encounter, lent me money, and today you came with me to gather herbs on the mountain. What do you really want from all this?"

An Yuan'er turned to look at him, her eyes sparkling. She smiled and didn't hide anything: "Because your surname is Lan, right? As long as there's even the slightest possibility, I'll always give it a try."

"Surname Lan?"

An Yuan'er nodded: "I read in an ancient book that the Lan family has a secret medicine to treat meridians, which is said to be able to reconnect hands and legs. When I saw you on the street that day, I knew that you were the person I was looking for."

"So that's what you were after too. But you have both hands and feet, so I don't see why you need this medicine?" Lan Jingtang knew that An Yuan'er must have guessed his connection with the Lan Clan by saying this, and denying it would be pointless.

"I'm doing this for a friend of mine. A very important friend."

An Yuan'er smiled as she spoke of that friend.

Lan Jingtang has no friends, not even from childhood to adulthood, so he knows that being remembered by someone is a very happy thing.

Thinking about how annoying this kid is, and how using him and getting close to him were all for ulterior motives, why does he keep saying he wants to be friends with him? What kind of friend is this who isn't sincere?

His expression froze, and he said coldly, "I won't help you. Give up."

A curt refusal, leaving no room for negotiation.

Lan Jingtang stood up: "Let's go down the mountain. Once I've paid you back, we'll go our separate ways. I'm just a commoner, and I can't befriend a young master like you."

An Yuan'er wouldn't let him get up, and grabbed his clothes urgently: "Lan Jingtang, would you rather go against your conscience and help the wicked son of Grand Commandant Yuchi than help me? Although I have my own agenda, I also sincerely want to be your friend."

Lan Jingtang's eyes widened: "You were following me?"

An Yuan'er lowered her head and said, "I'm forced by circumstances. I need to know what to do next. You need to ask Grand Commandant Yuchi to see Yi Chenxuan. I can help you."

An Yuan'er threw out her chips.

Ha ha ha ha.

Lan Jingtang smiled sadly: "Are you trying to negotiate with me? Don't try to be friendly. It's disgusting. I can't accept it. I won't go against my conscience to save Grand Commandant Yuchi's son, and naturally, I won't help you either."

An Yuan'er and Lan Jingtang started arguing, and in the ensuing scuffle, An Yuan'er was pushed to the ground by Lan Jingtang and fell hard.

Lan Jingtang looked at An Yuan'er, who was crying out in pain, and wanted to help him up, but he withdrew his hand.

We must not be soft-hearted.

Lan Jingtang looked up and his eyes lit up. There was a thousand-year-old snow lotus on the cliff.
