Chapter Three: What Kind of Despair?

"Let's fly kites together, play together, and I'll be good to you."

The girl was clearly afraid he would bite her again, but she still stood in front of him, with a hint of ingratiation.

Yi Chenli couldn't understand why anyone would fawn over a disabled person.

What is she after?

He pushed the wheel, turned around, and prepared to go back inside. The hustle and bustle and color outside never belonged to him.

Without legs, how could he make the kite fly?

The wheels were turning, and before the person even entered the house, the sound of hurried footsteps came from behind.

The girl's voice was urgent as she called out, "Sixth Prince, look here!"

As if by some strange twist of fate, he pushed the wheel back around.

A smile played on the girl's lips as she waved the butterfly kite she had released high in the air.

In order to let Yi Chenli see the kite flying as well, An Yuan'er ran back from the open space after the kite had flown high into the air.

All Yi Chenli saw was the girl's face, as red as an apple. She stood under the red plum blossoms, the breeze lifting her skirt and swaying her smile. This scene quietly blossomed in his heart.

Despite the lack of sunlight, Yi Chenli felt a sense of warmth, and even the dampness from the snow on his body was slowly evaporating.

The girl slowly ran towards him and then solemnly handed him the kite string.

"Look, the kite is flying, flying so high." The girl's soft voice floated in my ear, her tone rising.

The kite string danced in his hand as the wind blew, and the butterfly kite soared high into the air, even higher and farther than any other kite.

Yi Chenli closed his eyes and felt as if he could also fly out into the sky like a butterfly.

My heart was pounding fiercely, beating very fast, rhythmically thumping.

An Yuan'er glanced sideways and saw a faint smile on Yi Chenli's lips.

He had such a beautiful smile that everything around him seemed to pale in comparison.

But......

The wind suddenly shifted, and it became a headwind.

The kite got a little out of control and started swaying left and right.

Sitting in his wheelchair, Yi Chenli pulled on the kite string, but the kite still plummeted downwards.

An Yuan'er didn't want the smile she had finally seen to disappear. She took the kite string back from Yi Chenli and started jogging around the yard. After some effort, the kite started flying high again.

She smiled happily, then turned and handed the kite string back to Yi Chenli.

Something was off. Looking back, the boy in the wheelchair had lost his faint smile.

Yi Chenli pulled hard on the kite string, and the string, which was made of silver threads, was torn apart by him.

The kite, its string broken, began to fall rapidly and soullessly until it crashed into the water and disappeared from sight.

Yi Chenli's lips curled into a cruel smile: "A puppet on a string cannot see the blue sky outside the window."

The kite string scratched Yi Chenli's hand, leaving it covered in blood, but he felt no pain. The smile on his face was just too glaring.

He was smiling, but An Yuan'er felt that he was crying inside, crying very loudly.

He was destined to be the son of the Qilin, but fate did not favor him. Suddenly, a huge rock crushed his thigh, and along with the destiny, his ability to walk also disappeared.

How desperate he must have felt back then!

A five-year-old child has to learn to be abandoned by everyone!
