An Yuan'er wasn't flustered by An Chaoli's idea. She calmly said, "Father's intentions are good. But Father also knows that wealthy families may seem glamorous, but the infighting and family feuds inside are much more numerous than in ordinary families. Cuizhen is just an ordinary girl. Can she handle the struggles in our household? Not to mention my aunt who stirs up trouble, even my seemingly timid aunt is no pushover."
"Father, please don't do something bad because you mean well."
An Chaoli gained a new understanding of his young daughter. Despite her young age, she saw through everything and was very clear about the situation in the family.
An Yuan'er pressed on, saying, "Father, the worst thing for a person is to have unrealistic expectations. Maintaining the status quo isn't a bad thing. Besides, and most importantly, Yuan'er doesn't like Cuizhen, and doesn't like her coming to our house."
An Yuan'er didn't like pretense; she told her father her most genuine feelings.
An Chaoli changed his mind: "It was Father who didn't think it through. Father wouldn't have such thoughts anymore."
For An Chaoli, no matter how many reasons were given, he wouldn't care. The only thing that made him change his mind was his daughter's statement that she didn't like it.
Nothing is more important than Xiao Yuan'er. That's always been the case, Father.
The father and daughter parked the carriage. They went to meet up with her brother and Cuizhen.
After the two left, Cuizhen suddenly emerged from behind the wall.
She said angrily, "An Yuan'er, it's you again. It's you again. Why do you always have to go against me? I could have been a young lady in Shengjing. This was her lifelong dream, and Uncle An also had the same idea, but it was all shattered by An Yuan'er's few words."
Cuizhen felt a deep hatred in her heart. If what she had felt before was merely jealousy of An Yuan'er, now that jealousy had transformed into intense hatred, a hatred that burned within her with the potential to spread like wildfire.
An Yuan'er returned to the agreed location and only found her brother there.
The older brother explained, "Cuizhen just said she had a bit of an upset stomach and went to the nearby outhouse."
Because Cuizhen herself said she had been to the market many times and was very familiar with it, and kept saying that she could go by herself, An Huaishou did not go with her.
It wasn't long before Cuizhen returned.
She concealed her emotions well: "Sorry to keep everyone waiting. Let's go shopping."
Naturally, the older brother prioritized purchasing items for the Yan family. He was very thoughtful, having considered everything the Yan family would need for the next few years, including tools for working in the fields, kitchen utensils, and various other miscellaneous items.
When buying things, her brother would ask for Cuizhen's opinion. After all, Cuizhen would be using them eventually, so her preference was the most important thing.
Ke Cuizhen seemed preoccupied. She usually loved shopping, but today she seemed a bit listless. Whatever An Huishou bought, she agreed without giving any of her own opinions.
That's fine.
Later, An Yuan'er went to pick out clothes for An Huishou. The clothing store had both men's and women's clothes.
An Huishou had a good figure, wore a moon-white long robe, and had a jade pendant hanging at his waist. He had a handsome face and was a refined gentleman. His attire made him look like a noble young man who had stepped out of a book.
"Brother is so handsome." An Yuan'er couldn't stop praising him; she had already done so countless times today.
The older brother joked, "How does it compare to Yuan'er's number one?"
An Yuan'er made a gesture: "It's just a little bit short."
The older brother shook his head: "Even a little bit is a difference; it really can't compare."
Cuizhen was puzzled; even seeing pretty clothes didn't lift her spirits. An turned and asked, "Zhen'er, what's wrong?"
