Chapter Thirteen: Awakening

An Yuan'er's illness worsened, and she was on the verge of death, clinging to life.

An Chaoli sought out renowned doctors throughout Shengjing, but all he received in return was a simple "Please accept my condolences."

The An family was not peaceful. The eldest son's branch even urged the old lady to hold a funeral for An Yuan'er ahead of time in order to get rid of the bad luck in the mansion.

An Chaoli stayed by An Yuan'er's side for five whole days. He became extremely thin, with a stubble beard and gray hairs visible at his temples.

On the sixth day, An Chaoli finally stepped out of the door. There was a Honglu Temple on Donghua Mountain. An Chaoli did not believe in gods or Buddhas, but when he was desperate, he was willing to give it a try. He still did not want to believe that his father-daughter relationship with Xiaoyuan'er in this life was over.

Donghua Mountain is steep and difficult to climb, with forty-nine steps. But the gods and Buddhas value sincerity above all else. With sheer perseverance, An Chaoli made it to Donghua Mountain.

“If the gods and Buddhas are truly efficacious, An Chaoli is willing to sacrifice twenty years of his lifespan in exchange for the safety of his daughter.”

An Chaoli prayed devoutly on Donghua Mountain for a day and a night until he encountered the mysterious Master Fang at midnight.

The Celestial Master gave An Chaoli a bottle of medicine, saying that this medicine could cure all diseases and that there was only one bottle of it in the world.

An Chaoli was overjoyed and kowtowed dozens of times to express his gratitude to the Heavenly Master.

The Celestial Master dared not take credit, but mysteriously said that it was the will of the gods and Buddhas, and the good karma accumulated by the fourth young lady of the An family.

When An Chaoli inquired further, the Celestial Master only said one sentence: "Heavenly secrets cannot be revealed. If you are destined, you will naturally know the secrets."

After saying this, the Celestial Master had already vanished without a trace, and could not be found anywhere.

When this matter became known, rumors spread rapidly. People said that the fourth young lady of the An family was a person blessed by heaven, and even the gods and Buddhas could not bear to take her away. They specially descended to earth to bestow medicine upon her, making the story seem almost supernatural.

The medicine was indeed miraculous. That very night, An Chaoli gave An Yuan'er the medicine, and An Yuan'er's fever subsided considerably, showing signs of improvement.

An Chaoli was overjoyed and rushed to the temple that very night to express his gratitude: "Buddha has truly not deceived me; I am deeply grateful for his great kindness and virtue."

From this day forward, Buddha has gained another devout believer.

An Yuan'er felt as if she had a very long dream. In the dream, she was vain, arrogant, and willful. She caused trouble and insisted on marrying Gu Chuzhi, the son of the Prime Minister, despite her father's objections. But little did she know that Gu Chuzhi had already conceived a child with her cousin An Piao'er. His approach to her was only to seize the An family's wealth.

After marrying into the Prime Minister's mansion, Gu Piao'er framed her for having affairs with several servants, causing her to be ostracized by everyone in the Gu family and become a harlot condemned by the world, living a life worse than death in the Gu family.

Because of An Yuan'er's bad luck in meeting the wrong people, her father was framed and lost his official position, eventually dying of depression; her brother, despite his talent, was suppressed and neglected, and in the end, the An family was torn apart. An Yuan'er was largely to blame.

Upon reaching this point in her dream, An Yuan'er was already in tears.

But even in the end, her father and brother did not give up on her. They used their last connections to beg the sixth prince, Yi Chenli, to rescue her from her predicament.

She spent the rest of her life under the care of Yi Chenli, the madman who was considered violent and cruel by the world, who gave her his final tenderness.

The dream gradually began to fade, the memories of her past life started to recede, and the heart-wrenching experiences began to become somewhat chaotic.

An Yuan'er was sweating profusely and struggling uncomfortably. Suddenly, she sat up abruptly.

She didn't even have time to put on her shoes and socks before rushing to the closet, taking out a small notebook, and starting to jot things down.
