Chapter 342 The Uninvited Guest

There are only two months left until An Yuan'er's 13th birthday.

This year has passed by extremely quickly. So many things have happened; it feels like the year is almost over in the blink of an eye.

An Yuan'er thought she could spend the whole year with Yi Chenli, but unfortunately, things didn't turn out the way she expected.

It's another snowy day.

An Yuan'er happened to be out buying medicinal herbs when, in the wind and snow, an uninvited guest arrived at Chenyang Palace, which was usually deserted. He walked through the snow.

Li Gui welcomed the people into the main hall, where a warm charcoal fire burned, a stark contrast to the icy, snowy landscape outside.

"Lord An, please have a seat. This tea is Tianchi flower tea; please have some first. The master will be here soon." This is Miss An's biological father. Lord An has never set foot here in recent years, so Li Gui dares not underestimate his sudden visit.

“It’s alright. I’ll wait.” An Chaoli didn’t put on airs and sat down to wait.

He tasted the tea. It was brewed with water from Tianchi Lake, and only ten cups could be made each year. Yet this man in the hall could casually serve it to guests. It was clear that he was not as impoverished as he appeared. Over the years, his daughter had been well-fed and healthy, clearly having never suffered any hardship.

An Chaoli didn't have to wait long before Yi Chenli appeared.

An Chaoli carefully examined the young man who had appeared. Snowflakes could be faintly seen on his shoulders, indicating that he had rushed over. The young man sat in a wheelchair, wearing a simple black robe with cloud patterns and a matching belt around his waist. Even in casual clothes, the young man's bearing and elegance were still evident.

An Chaoli had seen many people with physical disabilities, but never one as calm and composed as the boy before him. He met the boy's gaze without flinching.

Even though he's in a wheelchair and shorter than most people, you don't sense his inferiority.

The boy's disability far surpassed that of many able-bodied people, but An Chaoli still couldn't understand why his daughter chose him just because of his appearance. Logically speaking, someone as cunning as him shouldn't be so likable.

Yi Chenli quietly allowed An Chaoli to scrutinize him, his eyes expressionless. He calmly said, "I apologize for keeping Lord An waiting. I am late."

He didn't refer to himself as a prince, but rather by his own name. Because he was her father, Yi Chenli unusually patiently communicated with him.

"Sixth Prince, you are too kind. My visit was unexpected, and your timing is excellent. I have come today to thank you for your care and support of my daughter over the years," An Chaoli stated his purpose directly.

Yi Chenli was naturally sensitive and thoughtful, and he immediately realized that Lord An's return was probably not simple.

He simply responded directly: "My care for Yuan'er is all of my own free will. I cannot possibly accept your thanks."

An Chaoli had also been in officialdom for many years, and when it came to rhetoric, he was second to none.

“It is Yuan’er’s good fortune to have the prince’s protection. However, the prince has completed his studies, and except for the sixth prince, the other princes’ companions returned to their respective homes several months ago. Only my Yuan’er has not yet returned. As his father, I cannot help but be extremely anxious.”

"I understand your thoughts, sir, but I get along very well with Yuan'er, and she has been living in Chenyang Palace for many years and is already used to it..."

Before Yi Chenli could finish speaking, An Huaishou interrupted him.
