Chapter Sixty-Three: Empathy

Perhaps because success was so hard-won, Yi Chenqi was so happy he wanted to jump up from his wheelchair.

The two of them arrived at dusk, and it was already dark.

Only through the light from the lanterns lit in the palace could they see each other's faces.

An Yuan'er walked over and untied the ropes binding Yi Chenqi.

Because his legs had been bound for so long, they were so congested with blood when they were untied that Yi Chenqi couldn't stand steadily and had to rely on An Yuan'er for support to avoid falling.

Perhaps Yi Chenqi didn't understand An Yuan'er's meaning at first, but now he does.

Only by truly empathizing can one understand how difficult it is to live without legs.

Physical disability, psychological trauma, and the constant ridicule and humiliation from outsiders—anyone who isn't truly strong inside wouldn't have survived.

Yi Chenqi felt that, in all fairness, if he were Yi Chenli, he might not have been able to do better than Yi Chenli.

An Yuan'er walked over and sat down on the steps side by side with Yi Chenqi.

The girl spoke slowly: "Fifth Prince, I hope that from today onwards, you will no longer humiliate the Sixth Prince because of his leg."

"Are you asking me to pity him and let him go?"

An Yuan'er said firmly, "He doesn't need sympathy. Rather..."

An Yuan'er was actually trying to save Yi Chenqi. How could she tell him that Yi Chenqi would pay a heavy price for his youthful arrogance in the future?

“Attacking someone’s hidden weakness is not the act of a gentleman. In Yuan’er’s heart, the Fifth Prince is open and straightforward. Yuan’er knows that you and the Sixth Prince have different positions. I don’t expect you to be good brothers, but you can compete fairly.”

Yi Chenqi chuckled: "Fair competition? Xiao Yuan'er, I don't think Yi Chenli has the ability to compete with me?"

An Yuan'er was silent for a while, then finally sighed and said, "Who knows what will happen in the future?"

Yi Chenqi arrogantly said, "Since it was Xiao Yuan'er who asked me, why shouldn't I agree? However, one day I will show you that I will be the winner forever."

Young and impetuous teenagers possess the courage and confidence to look down on everything.

He thought that although he couldn't change the girl's mind now, one day he would win her and everything he wanted.

He stood at the top of the steps and shouted down, "An Yuan'er, let's make up."

An Yuan'er stood at the bottom of the steps and nodded.

He is him, and the Empress is the Empress. We cannot implicate him because of the Empress's actions. Nor can we sever all ties with him because of future events.

Despite the uncertainties of the future, at least for this moment, An Yuan'er is genuinely willing to become friends with this flamboyant young man.

Yi Chenqi was exceptionally happy today. He insisted on taking An Yuan'er home, and along the way, An Yuan'er listened to him talk a lot about his hobbies.

It turns out that his greatest love was riding horses, galloping freely across the grasslands. He disliked the intrigue of the court and the constraints imposed on him by the Empress, yet he could only strive to live up to his mother's expectations. Because of his status, he was destined to have no choice.

An Yuan'er saw a loneliness and helplessness in Yi Chenqi that she didn't usually see.

Living within these palace walls is not easy for anyone.

The journey wasn't short, but Yi Chenqi felt the time flew by; they arrived so quickly.

"Xiao Yuan'er, go inside."

As Yi Chenqi was saying goodbye to An Yuan'er, An Yuan'er saw An Piao'er hiding by the door through the shadows of the lamp.

She angrily gripped the wall, watching with envy as the Fifth Prince escorted An Yuan'er home.
