Sang'er arrived at the back door of a palace, knocked gently three times on the door, and then meowed three times like a cat.
Just then, the door opened, and a young eunuch said to Sang'er, "No one saw you, did they?"
“No!” Sang’er shook her head. “I want to see my master!”
"You come in first. I've asked the mistress. If she sees you, then you can go in!" the little eunuch said.
"Okay!" Sang'er could only wait.
A moment later, the young eunuch returned. "Let's go, the master wants to see you!"
Sang'er followed the little eunuch into the room.
"I heard you wanted to see me?" the voice came.
"Yes, Master, Wanliuhashi already has some suspicions about me!" Sang'er said fearfully. If she hadn't been quick-witted today, Wanliuhashi would probably have really punished her!
"Have you done what I asked you to do?"
"This servant has failed my mistress!" Sang'er said, bowing her head.
"Fine, since Wanliuha suspects you, you shouldn't stay by her side!"
"Yes, thank you, Master!" Sang'er replied happily.
"Alright, go back and pack your things first! I'll take care of everything for you!" said the person Sang'er addressed as her master.
"Thank you, Master!" Sang'er kowtowed and then got up and left.
"Go on, what else can we do if things aren't done well? There's only one way out!" the man said to the eunuch beside him.
The little eunuch nodded and immediately went out. He caught up with Sang'er in just a few steps, covered her mouth from behind, and no matter how much Sang'er struggled, she couldn't break free.
Sang'er struggled less and less until she finally stopped struggling altogether, her eyes wide open.
The young eunuch placed his finger near Sang'er's nose to check, but found no breath. Then he carried Sang'er away.
Kangxi ordered Liang Jiugong to place all the storybooks he had collected from He Xue in front of him. There were quite a lot, and the table was full of them.
Kangxi glanced at them briefly; the titles were quite novel: "The Story of a Princess and Seven Men," "The Peasant Girl's Pearl Shoes," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Romantic Prince and His Pretty Maid," "My Secret with the Young Master!"...
He flipped through them and found that most of them were things for children, but he found that looking at these picture books was much more interesting than reading folded books.
When the Crown Prince arrived, he saw that Kangxi was looking at something with his head down, and he thought that Kangxi was reading a memorial!
"Greetings, Father Emperor!" The Crown Prince greeted Emperor Kangxi with a bow.
“Baocheng is here, go on! That’s what’s been prepared for you. Finish looking at these today!” Kangxi said, pointing to a table next to him.
The Crown Prince looked in the direction Kangxi pointed and saw a table full of food. However, seeing the pile in front of Kangxi, the Crown Prince felt that his father still cared about him, so he could no longer bargain.
"Yes, Father Emperor!" the Crown Prince replied obediently.
"You can look at it yourself first. If you don't understand it, put it aside and don't disturb me!" Kangxi was engrossed in reading and couldn't bear to be interrupted.
"Yes, Your Majesty, I understand!" The Crown Prince then began to review the memorials.
Inside Chengqian Palace, He Xue noticed that something seemed off between the First Prince and Consort Hui. Was Consort Hui pressuring the First Prince to compete for the position of Crown Prince again?
He Xue didn't know what Consort Hui was thinking. Did Consort Hui really believe that the First Prince could definitely outcompete the Crown Prince? If he couldn't, the consequences would be dire. The Crown Prince was personally tutored by Emperor Kangxi; could the First Prince compare?
It seems that the eldest prince has no interest in the position of crown prince, but it's possible that if Consort Hui keeps urging him, he won't be tempted.
To prevent a power struggle among the princes, the eldest prince must be persuaded to let go of his attachment to the throne. She certainly won't do it. I wonder if my aunt can resolve Consort Hui's inner conflict?
He Xue wondered if she could have Consort Tongjia and Consort Hui have a proper talk? After all, Consort Hui still trusted Consort Tongjia quite a bit.
