Chapter 219 The Frustrated Soetu

"Your Majesty, Suhetai is talking nonsense! Don't believe him!" Soetu was almost in tears; he had never felt so aggrieved.

"Second brother, poor Songgotu! He's been so angry with Suhetai that he's speechless!" the Third Prince said with a hint of schadenfreude. Songgotu had negotiated with the Russian envoy before, but now he's been angered to this extent by a military general!

Kangxi looked at Su Hetai, who was beaming with pride. Although he knew that Su Hetai was talking nonsense, he really didn't know how to deal with him. On the one hand, he felt indebted to Hexue, and on the other hand, Su Hetai was the son-in-law of his uncle Tong Guowei. His uncle had no other faults but was very protective of his own.

If he punishes Suhetai, he probably won't be able to get past his uncle.

Kangxi was a little curious. Tong Guowei doted on He Xue, so how could such a thing have happened between them? He hadn't seen his uncle do anything about it!

At this moment, Liang Jiugong walked in again. Liang Jiugong really didn't want to come in. He had already heard the sounds inside from outside and knew that the Emperor must be furious.

His coming in now would be like adding fuel to the fire, but he has no choice but to come in!

When Kangxi heard Liang Jiugong's words, he wanted to slap himself twice. It was true that good things didn't come true, but bad things did. What nonsense was he talking about!

"Your Majesty, Lord Tong Guowei and General Su Hetai's son are requesting an audience outside!"

"Let them in!" Kangxi said weakly.

"Second Prince, look at Father Emperor. He looks ashen-faced, like..." The First Prince whispered to the Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince hurriedly covered the eldest prince's mouth. Didn't he see that his father was about to lose his temper? These people were difficult for his father to deal with; he might vent his anger on them.

He didn't want to spend all his time reading memorials; he still wanted to leave the palace to see He Xue!

The eldest prince broke free from the crown prince's hand, "Did you even wash your hands?!"

"Say less! Don't implicate everyone!" the crown prince said.

"Damn it, Second Prince, you're inhuman!" the First Prince roared.

"Eldest brother, we think second brother is right. If Father punishes us by making us copy books because of you, then you have to copy them for us!" Fifth Prince threatened Eldest Prince.

"You've disappointed me greatly!" the eldest prince said with dissatisfaction, but he wisely kept quiet, as he didn't want to copy the book either.

What he really wanted to say was that his father looked like a scholar whose life force had been drained by a female ghost, his face ashen!

Tong Guowei entered to prepare for paying his respects to Emperor Kangxi.

“Uncle, no need for formalities, please sit down!” Kangxi said.

However, Tong Guowei still insisted on bowing to Kangxi, saying, "Thank you, Your Majesty, but the proper etiquette cannot be disregarded!"

When Kangxi saw Tong Guowei's appearance, he knew that the visitor was up to no good.

"Uncle, what brings you to the palace?"

"Your Majesty, I went to the General's Mansion to visit He Xue, and heard that Su Hetai had left the mansion. I found out that Su Hetai went to the Hesheli Mansion. I was afraid that something might have happened, so I took Jing Shu and chased after him, but we were still too late."

When I arrived at Hesheli’s residence, Suhetai and the others went to the palace, so I went to the palace as well!

Your Majesty, you know that He Xue is Su Hetai's most precious possession, otherwise he wouldn't have rushed back overnight.

If he does anything inappropriate, please forgive him this time, out of his love for his daughter!

After all, Xue's misfortune was completely unexpected. Such a young child, yet she has to endure such pain! Even this servant feels heartbroken watching her suffer like this!" Tong Guowei said, wiping his eyes with his sleeve.

Kangxi knew things would turn out this way. He was now in a dilemma: if he didn't punish Suhetai, Suo'etu wouldn't agree; but if he did punish Suhetai, he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Soetu's eyes lit up; he seemed to have caught Suhetai red-handed.
