Emperor Kangxi was delighted by Suo'etu's words: "You two are both my trusted ministers, and you should get along well from now on!"
"Your Majesty's decree is ours to obey!" Suhetai and Suo'etu said in unison.
"Alright, if there's nothing else, you may all leave!" Kangxi said, waving his hand.
"Your Majesty, this servant would like to request a few days' leave!" Soetu said with a troubled expression.
"Song'etu, why are you, a grown man, so concerned about saving face!" Suhetai said sarcastically.
Soetu ignored Suhetai, thinking to himself, "If I go out looking like this, people will laugh their heads off!"
Kangxi nodded. Soetu only had this one request, and he figured he should grant it; otherwise, the favoritism would be too obvious. "I grant it! You may all leave! I need to rest!"
Kangxi dismissed them immediately, otherwise who knows what might have happened!
"Your Majesty, this servant..." Suhetai looked at Kangxi, hesitant to speak.
Kangxi knew this wasn't over. "I allow you to return tomorrow! Do you have anything else to say?"
"This servant thanks Your Majesty!"
"Liang Jiugong, quickly help me to rest!" Kangxi beckoned to Liang Jiugong.
Liang Jiugong immediately stepped forward and helped Kangxi away.
Suhetai looked at Suo'etu, whose face was bruised and swollen, and said, "Suo'etu, go back and practice your kung fu more. Don't always think about those scheming tricks!"
You are an official appointed by the imperial court, you should think more about the people. Look at you, you even have to ask for leave because of this little injury!
"If an official doesn't serve the people, he might as well go home and sell sweet potatoes!"
"I can't be bothered to argue with you!" Soetu flicked his sleeves and walked away!
"Your Highness, my brothers, we shall take our leave!" Tong Guowei said, leading the way.
"Good! General, I have something to say to Jing Shu!" the Crown Prince said to Su Hetai.
"Your Highness, please go ahead!" Although Su Hetai didn't know when Jing Shu and the Crown Prince had become so close, he didn't ask any further questions.
The Crown Prince kept Jing Shu behind for two reasons: firstly, he wanted to inquire about He Xue's situation, and secondly, Jing Shu had just given him a meaningful look, indicating that he had something to say to him.
"How is He Xue?" The Crown Prince led Jing Shu to a quiet place.
“He Xue is doing well, so Your Highness need not trouble yourself!” Jing Shu said. “This servant has something to remind Your Highness: with my father around, Your Highness should probably rein in your thoughts! Otherwise, who knows what he might do!”
The crown prince did not respond, but asked directly, "Is there something you need?"
“Indeed, there is something! Your Highness, He Xue really liked the pastries you sent last time, so I would like to trouble Your Highness to prepare some more so that I can take them back to He Xue!” Jing Shu said without any politeness.
"Alright, I'll arrange it here, but it might take a while! This was made by the cook from Suo'etu's residence. I've already asked for that cook, but he hasn't come to the palace yet!" the Crown Prince explained.
"I'm sorry to trouble you, Your Highness!" Jing Shu said, bowing to the Crown Prince.
"How about I personally deliver it to Hexue tomorrow? I've been thinking of arranging someone to protect her!" The Crown Prince wanted to wait until Su Hetai left before going to see Hexue.
"Thank you for your trouble, Your Highness!" Jing Shu didn't know what else to say.
The next day, Suhetai had just left the general's mansion when the crown prince came to visit.
Jing Shu suspected that the Crown Prince was waiting at the General's Mansion and came immediately after seeing his father leave.
Jing Shu noticed a girl following behind the Crown Prince. This girl kept her head down, and Jing Shu guessed that this must be the person the Crown Prince had arranged to be by He Xue's side.
"Your Highness, if you arrange someone to be by He Xue's side, how will you explain it to my father and mother?"
"I have already spoken with Mother Tong, and it will be sent in her name!" The Crown Prince had already thought things through.
"His Highness the Crown Prince is indeed very thorough in his work!" Jing Shu said admiringly.
The Crown Prince and Jing Shu arrived at He Xue's courtyard, where He Xue was sitting.
"Brother Crown Prince, you've come!" He Xue said happily upon seeing the Crown Prince.
"Why did you come out?" The Crown Prince quickly walked up to He Xue and asked worriedly.
"It's too stuffy inside, come out and sit for a while. I'm fine now, Crown Prince!" He Xue emphasized.
"Alright, I'll sit for a while and then go back!" the Crown Prince said.
“Okay!” He Xue replied obediently.
"He Xue, look what your brother the Crown Prince brought you!" The Crown Prince took a food box from He Zhu's hand, opened it, and took out the snacks inside.
“Brother Crown Prince, I didn’t expect you to bring this pastry too! I told my elder brother yesterday to buy this kind of pastry for me!” He Xue said happily.
"Really?" The Crown Prince glanced at Jing Shu and knew that Jing Shu hadn't told He Xue that the pastries were sent by him.
Jing Shu guiltily turned her head to the side.
