Before they knew it, it was New Year's Eve (called the Great Last Day or the Thirtieth of the Year in the Qing Dynasty). He Xue and her family stayed up all night to welcome the New Year. After midnight, Tongjia Shi told He Xue to go back to her room.
He Xue returned to her courtyard but did not rush to rest. The Crown Prince had already written to her, informing her that he would be coming to the General's Mansion tonight.
He Xue washed her face to refresh herself, and then waited for the Crown Prince.
Fortunately, the Crown Prince didn't keep He Xue waiting too long.
Qingdai stared wide-eyed at the Crown Prince jumping down from the wall. Was this still the same Crown Prince who was so well-mannered and polite?
The prince knocked gently on the door.
Upon hearing the sound, He Xue immediately ran over to open the door, "Brother Crown Prince!"
"Were you getting impatient?" The crown prince said as he entered and closed the door.
"No!" He Xue pulled the prince to the charcoal brazier. "Brother Prince, sit here, it's warmer here!"
"Good!" The Crown Prince watched as He Xue busied herself, pouring him tea and fetching him a hot water bottle.
"Sit down, I'm not cold!" The Crown Prince let He Xue sit down next to him.
"Happy New Year, Your Highness! Give me a red envelope!" He Xue looked at the prince charmingly.
The Crown Prince looked at He Xue with affection, then took out two small boxes. He opened one of them first, and inside was a set of keys.
"What's wrong, Crown Prince?" He Xue asked, puzzled.
"These are the keys to all my storerooms, and I'm handing them over to you today!" the Crown Prince said.
"Isn't this a bit inappropriate?" He Xue tried hard to suppress the smile on her lips, but she couldn't.
[We're rich! We're rich! Is our Crown Prince really that rich?]
But does the Crown Prince have a private treasury? Could he be hiding a secret stash of money?
The Crown Prince looked at He Xue helplessly, "Little money-grubber, take it! I don't have any private treasury, everything is here!"
These things will be given to you after we get married, so this is just giving them to you in advance!
"Thank you, Crown Prince!" He Xue said, hugging the box to her chest.
The prince then placed another box in front of He Xue, saying, "Open it and take a look!"
He Xue took the box, gently opened it, and saw that there were two jade circles inside, with patterns carved on them and words engraved inside the circles.
"Didn't you say that Westerners wear rings? You like jade, so I had two jade rings made. Do you like them?" The Crown Prince said with a smile, looking at He Xue's shocked expression.
"Is this a ring?" Xue picked up a small band with a puzzled look. The band was engraved with intertwined branches, and inside was the Crown Prince's name, "Yinreng." The other one was also engraved with her name.
"Brother Crown Prince, please put this on for me!" He Xue said to the Crown Prince.
The prince put the pendant on the ring finger of He Xue's left hand, and He Xue also put it on the prince's finger.
He Xue looked at the ring on her hand with great satisfaction. "You're so kind, Crown Prince!"
He Xue never expected that her casual remark would be taken to heart by the Crown Prince.
"Isn't it only right that I treat you well?" The Crown Prince smiled as he saw He Xue's happiness.
"Brother Crown Prince, I forgot to prepare a gift for you!" He Xue said with remorse.
"You are my best gift!" The prince looked at He Xue with deep affection in his eyes.
He Xue saw her own reflection in the prince's eyes, and she recalled Qi Jun's words in "The Orange Turns Red": "When you see your own reflection in someone's eyes, you realize at that moment that you have taken root in their heart."
He Xue rested her head on the Crown Prince's shoulder, "Then I'll give myself to you, Crown Prince!"
Upon hearing He Xue's words, the Crown Prince said in a low, somewhat hoarse voice, "Don't tease me, I'm very susceptible to teasing!"
He Xue immediately covered her mouth.
The Crown Prince smiled as he looked at He Xue.
"Your Highness, something has happened!" He Zhu said anxiously from outside the door.
