After Liang Jiugong brought Li Jia and Tong Jia to Yuqing Palace, Emperor Kangxi specifically asked Liang Jiugong about the Crown Prince's reaction upon seeing Li Jia and Cheng Jia.
Liang Jiugong then relayed the Crown Prince's words directly to Emperor Kangxi.
Upon hearing this, Emperor Kangxi frowned. Had the Crown Prince's illness not improved after all these years?
Emperor Kangxi then abandoned the idea of sending more people to the Crown Prince, as sending too many would only expose the Crown Prince's strange illness.
Li Jia and Cheng Jia were merely decorations he gave to the Crown Prince to conceal his strange illness. He had bestowed them upon the Crown Prince, but whether or not he could get close to him was beyond his control. He couldn't possibly force the Crown Prince to sleep with his concubines, could he? What kind of person would he become?
Kangxi was more worried about the Crown Prince's offspring. He Xue's health was also damaged, and he didn't know whether He Xue's baby was a boy or a girl. However, on second thought, having too many offspring was not a good thing. It was inevitable that some would be neglected, which could easily cause dissatisfaction, just like with the Eighth Prince.
To avoid a repeat of the Eighth Prince's incident, Emperor Kangxi decided to spend some time cultivating a closer relationship with his sons.
Recently, Emperor Kangxi has been summoning his eldest son to accompany him for several days in a row.
The eldest prince felt that Mingzhu's gaze towards him had recently taken on a resurgence of its former intensity. He hadn't done anything wrong, and the third and fourth princes were looking at him with accusation in their eyes, as if they were disappointed in him as their eldest brother.
He wanted to explain to the Crown Prince, but the Crown Prince sarcastically said he believed him. But the Crown Prince's words didn't convince him at all! Did this damned second prince think he was trying to seize the throne?
That day, Emperor Kangxi summoned the eldest prince to the Qianqing Palace again.
"My lord, let's continue!" Kangxi said, pointing to the mountain of memorials beside him.
The eldest prince felt like crying when he looked at those memorials. He didn't like reading books, and he especially disliked reading memorials. Those memorials were just a bunch of nonsense, a complete waste of ink.
"Father, what have I done to offend you? Can you please give me a quick death? This is too much!" the eldest prince cried, his face contorted with anguish.
"My lord, I have high hopes for you and am grooming you for the future! Didn't you realize that?" Kangxi asked.
"Your subject truly did not realize that if this is how much you value me, I beg you to spare me! I enjoy the battlefield and killing enemies!"
"Truly worthy of being called the Baturu of the Great Qing, you have the same bearing as your father!" Kangxi said, patting the eldest prince on the shoulder. "You are my eldest son, it's just a pity that the crown prince has the advantage of being the legitimate son!"
"Father, I was wrong!" The eldest prince's legs went weak and he knelt down.
Emperor Kangxi looked at the eldest prince in shock, [I didn't expect such an unexpected gain!]
Kangxi said with a stern face, "Tell me where you went wrong?"
"Father, I shouldn't have encouraged the Second Prince to rebel! It's mainly because you're too petty and always suspicious! Who can stand you like this? I'm worried that you'll drive the Second Prince crazy one day, that's why I said that."
"But Father Emperor, rest assured, the Second Prince has absolutely no intention of rebelling. He is still your good Crown Prince!" The First Prince was worried that Kangxi would be implicated in the Crown Prince's actions.
"Baoqing, it's just the two of us here today, father and son. Let's have a heart-to-heart talk like any other father and son. What do you want to do in the future? Have you ever thought about becoming the crown prince?"
"Your imperial grandfather once asked me the same question!" Kangxi said, trying to suppress his anger, his tone unusually gentle.
"Who exactly are you? You're not my imperial father!" the eldest prince asked Kangxi warily.
