032 Selling Cakes
A loud shout of rage and shame came from inside the car.
Fang Xiaoyu, who was squatting on the street eating noodles, turned his head.
Then he saw his boss push open the car door and jump out, furious.
The soup spilled all over the leg of the custom-made suit pants made of high-quality fabric.
Seeing this scene, Fang Xiaoyu actually felt strangely happy.
Because he had told the boss not to eat such soupy food in the car, but the boss refused to listen.
Now, not only did I have to wash the car, but I also wasted such a good pair of suit pants.
Gao Qinghe didn't know all this, she was in a hurry to get on the bus.
The clock on top of the station building showed eleven o'clock, but the bus did not start immediately.
Instead, we waited for another ten minutes or so until the ticket inspector confirmed that everyone was on board, and then the bus slowly drove out of the station.
Gao Qingmiao looked out the window and saw that the red Xiali parked on the street had already driven away.
My eyes fell on the older sister sitting by the window. She was watching the street vendors selling food and drinks chasing away the stray dogs that had sneaked into the store to take food.
Gao Qingmiao sighed regretfully, but he didn't know what he was sighing for.
Anyway, he finally knew that in her sister's eyes, the red Xiali was not as interesting as the wild dog.
Gao Qinghe took out a fried cake from his schoolbag and threw it down when the ferocious wild dog that was being chased away ran to the bus.
It was too late for Gao Qingmiao to stop it.
The wild dog is very responsive, and its desire for food makes it discover the existence of food at the first possible moment.
Suddenly he jumped up and caught the fried pancake that fell from the air.
When the food reached its mouth, the dog's eyes, which were full of ferocity, lit up and it hummed with joy.
The dog's fried tail swung excitedly, and its eyes quickly glanced at Gao Qinghe on the bus. Then its four legs accelerated, and it rushed into the narrow alley on the street with the fried cake in its mouth, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
The hawker who chased after him with a stick could only stand in the narrow alley that was less than one person wide, cursing angrily.
He threatened to beat the beast to death if it dared to come again!
As the bus drove away, the hawker's curses were quickly drowned out by various other noisy sounds.
Gao Qinghe licked the remaining oil on his fingers twice. This fried pancake was made with plenty of ingredients and homemade lard, so it was fragrant and not greasy.
I just finished a bowl of rice noodles and my appetite is whetted again.
"Half each?"
Gao Qinghe took out a cake and looked at his brother with a smile. One was too much, and he couldn't finish it.
Gao Qingmiao couldn't help swallowing, "Okay."
So the brother and sister shared a fried pancake, which contained minced pork and small wild vegetables mixed together. The delicious taste lingered on the lips and teeth when they took a bite.
The other passengers in the car were all hungry.
Those days were not like later times, when people were more humane and had a lower sense of boundaries.
Across the aisle from the siblings, a young couple sitting in the same row couldn't help but ask:
"Is this a homemade cake?"
The woman spoke first.
The man looked rather honest, and because Gao Qinghe was too beautiful, he was embarrassed to look over at her.
Gao Qinghe smiled and nodded, "Yes, my grandma got up early in the morning and made it for us to take with us on the road."
As he said this, he turned the stuffing in his hand to show her and took a deep breath of satisfaction.
"Look, it's full of meat and wild vegetables, and it smells really good. The ones you buy outside don't taste like this."
The woman couldn't help swallowing.
The man whispered something in her ear, and the woman seemed to be encouraged and asked tentatively:
"Your cake is so delicious, could you give me half a piece to try? I have some homemade smoked dried fish that I can trade with you."
Gao Qingmiao wanted to wave his hand and say no, I'll give you one.
Gao Qinghe gently opened the hand that reached out to take the cake.
She smiled and said, "I don't want the dried fish. If you really want to eat it, I can sell you two."
As he said this, he picked up all the cakes in the bag, saying that he only had a few and couldn't bear to give them away.
The young couple probably didn't expect that someone would refuse so directly.
The two men's expressions froze for a moment, and they didn't know what to do and were a little annoyed.
I thought, how can she have the nerve to pay for just half a pancake!
However, what Gao Qingmiao didn't expect was that the two passengers sitting in the front row turned around in surprise and asked:
"Girl, how much is one? Give me two, just enough for lunch."
The people in the back row also stood up and said, "If there are any extra ones, I want one too."
Gao Qingmiao was surprised and looked at his elder sister quickly. How much money would it cost?
Gao Qinghe quickly calculated in his mind and said to the three people, "Fifty cents each, this pancake is full of meat."
The young couple uttered a "tsk" in unison. What a precious thing! How dare they charge fifty cents for it?
A pound of pork is only two pieces!
The rear passengers sat back in silence.
Although the two people in the front row felt a little painful, they were still greedy.
The two were companions, and the older one took out a dollar and bought two.
Gao Qinghe tore off two pieces of packaging paper, wrapped the fried pancakes and handed them to the two people.
He said sincerely, "Once you eat this cake, you'll know that 50 cents is not a loss at all."
The two of them did not doubt this, because when they took the meat pie in their hands and sniffed it, the rich aroma of meat and the unique bitter taste of wild vegetables wafted in, which greatly whetted their appetite.
The fried pancakes are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They are simmered for a whole morning, so the crust has become much softer.
But when you take a bite, your mouth is full of chewy meat particles. You won’t care whether the crust is crispy or soft. You just feel delicious and satisfied!
The two of them buried their heads in their food, finishing the meat-filled fried pancakes, which were as big as an adult's palm, in one go. They couldn't help but burp.
The ingredients are so generous that you can tell at a glance that they are making this for their family, so they are particularly generous with the ingredients.
Passengers sitting far away don’t think it’s a big deal.
If you are close to it, it will be torture.
The young couple, who were unhappy when they heard they had to pay, couldn't help themselves after a while and took out fifty cents to buy one.
Gao Qinghe smiled faintly, motioned Gao Qingmiao to take the money, and then tore off a piece of oil paper, wrapped the pancake and handed it over.
When the cake came into her hand, the woman immediately felt its heavy weight and thought that the fifty cents was not a waste.
She put the cake to her mouth with great anticipation. She had to taste what the cake tasted like today!
“Wow, delicious!”
The woman happily passed the cake to her husband's mouth and said, "Take a bite, it's more delicious than the one we bought at the station entrance this morning."
The man took a bite, nodded repeatedly, took another bite, and let his wife eat the rest.
The woman was cheerful and didn't refuse. She finished eating in a few bites and smiled awkwardly towards Gao Qinghe.
The passenger in the back seat stood up again and said, "Girl, please sell me another one. I'm really dying of greed from you guys."
A few people not far away also asked and wanted it.
Gao Qingmiao didn't expect that the fried cakes made by her grandmother would be so popular. Looking at the only five cakes left in the bag, she raised a finger.
I can only sell one more at most, otherwise I won’t have dinner.
Gao Qinghe was just trying it out and didn't intend to make money by selling cakes.
But judging from the situation, it seems that the fried cakes made by grandma are still quite popular.
Later I can ask grandma to try making the cakes at home and bring them to the county to sell.
In the end, Gao Qinghe sold three and kept only two for his sister and brother to eat for dinner.
After receiving three dollars, Gao Qinghe gave one dollar to his younger brother. The young man immediately became happy and said that if he was not full, he could eat canned food and oranges.
Gao Qinghe laughed, "You are good at accounting. The canned food and oranges can buy more than a dozen cakes."
Gao Qingmiao said confidently, "Who told you to sell all the cakes?"
Gao Qinghe shrugged and didn't argue with him.
The fried cakes will go bad if they are not kept until tomorrow, and two people cannot finish so many. We can sell them and buy other food.
She only reminded Gao Qingmiao to remember to keep the green tangerine peel, as it was her magic weapon to fight motion sickness.
