293 Letter from There

"Xiao He, your father is here!"

My mother-in-law's surprised voice came from the yard.

Gao Qinghe, who was practicing yoga on the bed with her daughter, stopped in surprise, picked up her daughter and ran out.

"Hey, my dear, just come here, why are you still so polite?"

Gao Chongyi brought in a large bag of rice and a snakeskin bag of fresh Chinese cabbage, and waved to his mother-in-law.

"It's not much, just some rice and some vegetables grown by her grandmother at home."

Qi Lian thought to himself, "You're so polite! We have everything at home. Don't take it next time. If you want to bring something, tell Xiao Hai in advance and ask him to pick you up. It's too much trouble to take the bus with so many things."

"It's okay, it's not a big deal. We'll deliver it directly to your door. They're young and busy, so don't worry about it."

The two of them politely moved the rice and vegetables into the house.

Gao Qinghe excitedly shouted: "Dad!"

When Jiang Qiyue heard his mother calling "Dad", he thought it was his father who came home. He turned his head around, but didn't find anyone familiar. He looked a little confused.

Everyone found it funny.

Gao Chongyi opened his arms and teased the little guy: "Qi Yue, do you still remember grandpa? Come, grandpa, give you a hug, okay?"

The little guy stared at his grandfather for a while, then hesitantly stretched out his little hand.

Gao Chongyi picked him up and tossed him around, and suddenly he flew into the air, leaving Jiang Qiyue dazed and his eyes wide open like bells.

After throwing it twice more, he realized that it was an adult playing with him, and he chuckled a few times to show his respect.

"Dad, why are you here? Where's grandma?"

Gao Qinghe took out a teapot and made a cup of hot tea for his father. "Dad, are you cold? Have some hot tea to warm yourself up first."

Gao Chongyi shook his head and motioned for his daughter to put the food on the coffee table first. "Your grandma is still in the village. The pigs and chickens at home were just sold. Your grandma prepared some vegetables and asked me to bring them to you."

As she spoke, she placed her little grandson on her lap and was able to sit steadily.

"Our little Qi Yue can sit by himself now!" Gao Chongyi was very surprised.

But he couldn't hold on for too long. The little guy's soft body was about to fall backwards, and his two little hands instinctively grasped his grandfather's fingers.

Feeling the considerable force on his fingers, Gao Chongyi couldn't help laughing and quickly picked up his grandson.

Qi Lianxin invited her in-laws to have lunch at home. Gao Chongyi smiled and agreed. She then told Gao Qinghe to greet her father and go to the kitchen to prepare.

Only the father and daughter, and the drowsy Jiang Qiyue were left in the hall.

Gao Qinghe signaled her father to give the child to her, but Gao Chongyi was reluctant to do so, so he held his little grandson in his arms and coaxed her to sleep.

Gao Chongyi suddenly said, "There's a letter from over there, wanting me to take you over to celebrate the New Year."

Gao Qinghe paused while covering her daughter with the quilt, looked at her father in surprise, and confirmed:

"Grandpa's side?"

"Yeah." Gao Chongyi nodded slightly, without any joy on his face.

Gao Qinghe was stunned. She had never seen anyone from the Gao family in her previous life.

She didn't know whether her father had concealed it intentionally or the Gao family had simply forgotten about this son. She had never heard her father mention that place.

In the previous life, because I only recognized relatives on my mother's side since I was a child, the three siblings didn't care about the relatives on my father's side who had no presence at all.

But now, they actually received a letter asking them to celebrate the New Year together. Gao Qinghe felt it was magical.

Gao Qinghe carried her sleeping daughter into the room, put her on the bed and covered her with a quilt before coming out.

She sorted out her thoughts in the room and decided to ask her father what he thought first.

"Do you want to go? Where are they now? Is it far from Qing County?"

Fearing that his father might have concerns, Gao Qinghe said directly: "If you want to go, Dad, we will all go with you."

If my mother-in-law and Jiang Yu are alone, they can go back to my uncle's house in Qijia Village to celebrate the New Year together.

Gao Chongyi looked at his daughter with relief, shook his head and said, "I don't want to go."

"Then let's not go and celebrate the New Year at home." Gao Qinghe immediately responded.

Hearing this, Gao Chongyi breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile reappeared on his handsome middle-aged face.

Excitedly suggested: "Then you and Xiaohai should invite your mother-in-law and sister-in-law to come to our house to celebrate the New Year this year."

Gao Qinghe couldn't take charge of her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, so she said she would ask them when the time came.

But she and Jiang Baohai can bring the child back.

What Gao Chongyi hoped most was that his granddaughter could come as well. Before leaving Jiang's house after lunch, he repeatedly reminded her to remember to bring the child back.

Gao Qinghe said with a smile: "I know. Unless it snows heavily and the road is blocked, I will walk back."

"By the way, Dad, how long do you plan to stay in the city?"

"About four or five days, mainly because I'm waiting for your mom. The workers won't have their day off for another few days."

The snow for this year has not come yet. The construction site cannot stop without snow or rain. In addition, the construction schedule is tight, so this year's workers will not be able to have a holiday until the 19th.

Gao Qinghe nodded to show that he understood, and then said to his father: "If there is nothing else, I will take the child back to the village and stay with grandma for a few more days."

This is a great relationship. The old lady must be happy to see her great-granddaughter.

"Okay, then when your mother and I return to the village, we will come to pick you and your mother up." Gao Chongyi said worriedly.

Gao Qinghe was at a loss for words, "Dad, I'm already a mother, and you still treat me like a child."

"You don't need to pick me up. I'll have Jiang Baohai drive me back."

Hearing his daughter say this, Gao Chongyi touched his nose awkwardly, feeling a little disappointed.

"Then Dad left."

Gao Qinghe followed his father out of Zhaojiazhuang, watched him enter the town, and then turned around and went home.

When Jiang Baohai returned home in the evening, Gao Qinghe told her family about her plan to go back to her parents' home for the New Year.

Qi Lianxin didn't say no, but his unhappiness was written on his face.

"I'm not going. If you want to go, go ahead."

Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival is different from celebrating the Chinese New Year. She was afraid of gossip from the villagers if she went to her daughter-in-law's parents' home to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

As for Jiang Yu, since her mother wasn't going, she had to stay.

Otherwise, who will burn incense to the ancestors at home during the New Year’s Eve dinner?

Jiang Baohai agreed. In his previous life, the only old man left in the Gao family was Gao Chongyi. He and his wife would go back to the village every year to spend the New Year with his father-in-law, and he was used to it.

However, seeing his mother's disapproval, Jiang Baohai gave her an idea.

"Mom, if you don't want to go back with me and Qinghe, then you can take Xiaoyu to your uncle's house. Bring some extra things with you, otherwise they might not be able to celebrate the New Year this year."

All the family fortune was swindled away, and there was nothing valuable left in the house. Fortunately, the rice harvest in the fields was good in the autumn, otherwise we would not have had enough to eat.

After all, they were his uncles. Although Jiang Baohai wanted to teach them a lesson, he still found a job for his two uncles later.

At least if I work until the Chinese New Year, I can earn enough money to pay for my children's schooling next year.

As for whether the two of them will continue working next year or return to the village to farm, he has no control over it.

Everyone has his own destiny, and he can't take control of other people's fate.

Gao Qinghe always ridiculed him for becoming "affectionate and righteous" and taking on too much responsibility as he got older.

But that’s because we have so much money that we can’t spend it all, and we want to give back to our fellow countrymen.

Now that his career is just starting, he still needs the support of his fellow villagers. He will talk about giving back later.
