314 Divorce
Zhong knelt down in front of Ouyang Yan.
"Yanzi, Mom is begging you, please let Zhenghua go, let our family go!"
Ouyang Yan stood blankly at the door, watching the warm sunlight shining on the furnishings inside the house.
This home that she built with her own hands seemed to be exuding a sense of decay.
When the sunlight hit the rotten wood, it sizzled and emitted a foul smell.
"Where is Xiaocao?" Ouyang Yan asked.
Mrs. Zhong was still kneeling in front of her, but she didn't expect that the person she asked about was not why, but about that little girl.
"She's fine. Zhenghua took her out with the girl next door to buy popsicles. You've been gone for so many days, and when you came back, didn't you even bother to ask how your husband is doing?"
Ouyang Yan walked around Mrs. Zhong and went into the house. She put down the canned fruit, thought for a while, took out a bottle, opened it, and sat at the table to eat.
Zhong was suddenly at a loss as to whether to kneel or stand.
Finally, she stood up, walked to the table and sat down opposite Ouyang Yan, and advised earnestly:
"Yanzi, I know that your relationship with Zhenghua has broken down. If that's the case, you two should just part ways amicably and get a divorce."
"You know, my biggest wish in this life is for Zhenghua to have a son of his own. Since you two can't have another child, please be kind and let Zhenghua go. I beg you, okay?"
Mrs. Zhong spoke humbly, but when she thought about her most beloved son having no descendants, she was overwhelmed with grief and cried very sadly.
"Yanzi, Zhenghua has had a hard time these past few days. Everyone knows that your father is his father-in-law, and the higher-ups are starting to have issues with Zhenghua. If you don't divorce, his future career will definitely be ruined."
Her poor son studied hard and was admitted to university. He finally walked from the village to the county town. Wherever he went, he was praised as a good man. He was about to make further progress, but was held back by his wife. She felt sorry for her son when she thought about it.
It would be fine if the couple had a good relationship, but in the past two years she found that Ouyang Yan had changed, becoming mean, sarcastic, and suspicious. The couple had a small quarrel every three days and a big quarrel every five days.
This ignorant woman suspected her son of being unfair to her all day long and almost ruined Zhenghua's reputation.
"I'm telling you the truth, Yan Zi, look at you. You don't have a job, you can't take good care of your husband, and you don't even have a son. Other people's wives are all good helpers, but what about you? You can't wait to run to your boss to make things difficult for your husband, and now your father..."
Fearing she would speak too bluntly, Zhong restrained herself a little and asked in what she thought was a tactful way:
"Yanzi, you are no longer worthy of Zhenghua, you know that. You two are no longer a match."
Ouyang Yan couldn't help but sneer, "You finally spoke out your true feelings. You've been holding it in for a long time. It must have been very uncomfortable, right?"
Mrs. Zhong wiped the tears from her eyes awkwardly and said nothing.
"Okay, divorce, I promise."
After saying this, Ouyang Yan found that it was not as difficult as she had imagined.
She even felt relieved.
She is really fed up with this marriage of mutual torture!
Let's end it like this.
Before Mrs. Zhong could show any expression of ecstasy, Ouyang Yan changed the subject and said, "But I have two conditions."
"You tell me, you tell me!" Mrs. Zhong didn't expect that she would agree so easily, and was afraid that she would go back on her word.
Ouyang Yan: "I want to take Xiaocao with me. Also, Zhou Zhenghua has to pay child support to his daughter every month, which is one-third of his salary."
Zhong agreed to the first condition without even thinking about it, but it was the second condition that made her hesitate.
But soon, she seemed to think it through, nodded, and asked her if she had any other conditions.
"I'm sorry for this. It was all my idea. Zhenghua doesn't know about it yet, but I promise you that I will never give Xiaocao less child support in the future."
As he said this, he took out a roll of money that he had prepared long ago from his belt and handed it to Ouyang Yan.
"It hasn't been easy for you these past few years. I still have 800 yuan of private money here. Take it all. Your family is not having a good time right now."
Looking at the roll of money, Ouyang Yan clenched her teeth and swallowed the bitterness in her throat.
She didn't say anything, put the money away, got up and left the house to wait for her daughter downstairs.
But unexpectedly, what she saw was her husband and another woman holding their daughter's hands, talking and laughing.
Ouyang Yan narrowed her eyes and found that it was not an illusion.
Anger surged up in her, and she rushed over, shook off Hao Huaping's hand, picked up her daughter, and couldn't help but slap Zhou Zhenghua!
The "slap" sound was not crisp, because Ouyang Yan was shaking all over, and she didn't have much strength left when she slapped the man in the face.
This slap shocked the two people in front of him.
Hao Huaping exclaimed, "Yanzi, why did you hit someone? Chief Zhou, are you okay?"
When Xiaocao saw her mother come back, she called out to her mother in surprise. Then she realized that her mother had hit her father. The little girl was stunned for a moment, not knowing why her mother hit her father.
But the little girl still hugged her mother's neck firmly.
Zhou Zhenghua touched his face in disbelief. A strong sense of humiliation surged up, but he suppressed it and explained with a reluctant decency, "Yanzi, you misunderstood. Let's talk about it when we get home."
He reached out to pull Ouyang Yan back, but she dodged him.
"Zhou Zhenghua, you want to divorce me just to marry her, right?"
Hao Huaping said in surprise: "Yanzi, what nonsense are you talking about? You really think too much. I am here for training and I came to see you on the way."
"Heh~" Ouyang Yan glared coldly at her former best friend, "Hao Huaping, this is my daughter and my husband. Before I divorced him, he was already married. You should keep your distance from him. Do you really not understand or are you just playing dumb?"
Everyone in the building came out to watch the fun. Hao Huaping's face turned red and she wanted to explain something, but Ouyang Yan didn't want to listen.
"Hao Huaping, I think you are really pretending to be stupid, get out of here!" Ouyang Yan yelled.
Hao Huaping was stunned by the yelling. She raised her hands to cover her face and hurriedly turned away.
"Teacher Hao..."
Zhou Zhenghua wanted to chase after him, but was stopped by Zhong.
"Ouyang Yan, what on earth are you going to do!"
As soon as he entered the house, Zhou Zhenghua could no longer suppress his anger and asked.
"Ask your mother!"
Ouyang Yan put her daughter down and went back to her room to pack her things.
Zhou Zhenghua was confused and looked at his mother who was looking very happy.
Mrs. Zhong waved her hand, motioning her son to come closer, and lowered her voice to tell him what she had just done.
"divorce?"
"Mom, what are you doing? Are you all crazy? Does anyone care about my opinion or my thoughts?"
Zhou Zhenghua was furious, but when he saw the marriage certificate that Ouyang Yan brought over, he only asked one question:
"Have you thought it through?"
Ouyang Yan suddenly felt that the marriage should have ended long ago.
"Let's go, before the Civil Affairs Bureau closes."
Mrs. Zhong pulled Xiaocao in front of her, opened a can of food for her, and coaxed her in a gentle voice:
"Xiaocao likes canned food, right? Eat more. Come, grandma will feed you."
The child asked his parents where they were going.
Mrs. Zhong smiled guiltily, "The adults have their own things to do. They will be back soon. Let's eat canned food."
Grandma had never spoken to her so gently before. Xiaocao was flattered and a little happy. She felt that her grandma still liked her, so she obediently opened her mouth and ate the canned food that her grandma fed her.
But when she finished eating the can, only her mother came back.
