Yang Shushu didn't want to move during dinner. She originally wanted to make some instant noodles, but when she saw the lunch, she made herself some fried rice with eggs, took a bite, and went back to the house.
Before going upstairs, she glanced at Chunxiao's room. It was closed tightly. It seemed that she had not gone out all afternoon and had not even gone to the toilet. She was really patient and had a bad temper.
In the past, Yang Shushu always went to bed late because she often worked overtime. But since her rebirth, her original identity had no job, and her health was not good, so she always went to bed very early. She felt a little tired at around 8 or 9 o'clock in the evening and fell asleep on the bed.
It was only half past eight, and Yang Shushu was already drowsy. She vaguely heard some noises behind the house, but after listening for a moment, there was no movement again. She didn't pay attention anymore and slowly fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she was choked. The strong smell of smoke filled her nostrils, forcing her to wake up from her sleep. When she opened her eyes and saw the room full of smoke, she was frightened and jumped off the bed. Without thinking, she rushed out of the room. The corridor on the second floor was also full of smoke, but it was not heavy. At least she could see the road without any problem. She covered her nose and rushed downstairs. When she was halfway up the stairs, she suddenly widened her eyes.
The kitchen on the first floor was almost engulfed in flames. The flames were licking outwards unscrupulously and were about to burn into the living room. Thick smoke was spreading upwards.
Yang Shushu was in a daze for a while and didn't think about putting out the fire. She couldn't put out such a big fire by herself. She went downstairs and rushed directly to the door. But when she was halfway there, she suddenly looked towards a room downstairs. The room was still closed, as if it had never been opened. It was so quiet that no one was there.
She stood there frowning, then without stopping, turned and ran towards the room again, knocking on the door several times: "Chunxiao, Chunxiao, are you in there? There's a fire, come out quickly."
Not long after, there was a sudden sound of something heavy falling from inside. Yang Shushu was startled and began to speak and move anxiously: "Chunxiao, Chunxiao, what's wrong with you?"
But this time, no matter how she shouted, no sound came out, and the fire in the kitchen was still getting stronger. She didn't care about anything else. She turned around and took a few steps back in the opposite direction of the door, then turned around and banged on the door. However, with her small body, how could she break the door open so easily? She banged on it three or four times, but the door didn't budge at all.
Yang Shushu was almost crying in anxiety. The fire grew bigger and had already spread to the living room. The entire first floor was filled with smoke, and the heat from the flames made the air, which was not cool to begin with, feel as if people were soaked in boiling soup.
Sweat kept rolling down her forehead, but Yang Shushu was stubborn and refused to run away. Although Chunxiao had always treated her badly in her memory, she had never done anything to harm anyone. It wasn't that she was a saint, but she couldn't bear to watch a life disappear in front of her.
Just like when she saw the young man standing by the building and about to jump down, she rushed over without thinking and tried to pull him back.
She wanted to live a good life, but she couldn't just close her eyes and live alone. The world would be truly beautiful only if all kinds of life bloomed.
Snap!
There was a sound of something burning, but she still didn't hear anyone coming to put out the fire. She was so anxious that she was about to burn herself. She kept kicking the door and calling Chunxiao's name outside, but there was no movement from inside. If it weren't for the sound just now, she would even suspect that there was no one inside.
This is only a two-story house, not big, and there are no buildings around. If the fire is put out in time, it should not spread to the entire pastoral house. But if it is too late -
I don't know what the Mu family does for a living. Even if they live far away, can't they see the smoke coming from here? It shouldn't be too late now, right?
Yang Shushu kicked the door while looking at the clock in the living room. Her eyes happened to pass by the first-floor window. Suddenly, a nerve struck her. She slapped her thigh and yelled, "Chunxiao, wait."
After saying that, she ran towards the door. This was the first floor. She almost forgot that there should be windows in the rooms on the first floor, right?
Yang Shushu ran out of the fire on the first floor and looked towards the main door. Sure enough, no one had come yet. She sighed angrily and turned around to walk towards the window of Chunxiao's room. When she got under the window and leaned against it, she saw someone lying on the floor facing the door.
She slammed the window and shouted Chunxiao's name, then picked up a shovel beside the window and smashed it hard at the glass. The glass shattered. She reached into the window, opened the lock from inside, jumped in, and pulled a pillowcase over Chunxiao's nose, then bent down to pick her up.
But she forgot that with her current height and weight, it was impossible for her to pick up Chunxiao. She made a quick decision and directly put her hands under Chunxiao's armpits and dragged her up. At this time, Chunxiao woke up a little. She raised her eyelids weakly and saw Yang Shushu: "Yang Shushu, you..."
Yang Shushu said: "Cover your mouth, you seem to still have a fever, don't talk."
As she spoke, she dragged the person towards the door and window. It might be impossible to get out through the door now. Chunxiao's place was the farthest from the kitchen, so it would be more convenient and safer to go out through the window.
Chun Xiao struggled a few times, trying to stand up on her own, but failed. Yang Shushu yelled at her, "Stop the fucking move!"
Chunxiao was startled and really didn't move. Yang Shushu dragged her to the window. She didn't have the strength to carry her out, but she had her own way. The windowsill was just above Chunxiao's chest. She put her upper body across the windowsill, then bent down and lifted her legs. As she did so, she said, "I'm going to get you outside now. You have to use your hands to support yourself on the ground. Don't hit your head on the ground, or you'll get stupid. I won't be responsible for supporting you in your next life."
Chunlan didn't have the energy to argue with her now, she just rolled her eyes and hummed. Hearing her voice, Yang Shushu lifted Chunxiao's legs up, and Chunxiao fell onto the grass outside.
Yang Shushu was about to jump out as well when suddenly a thought flashed through her mind. It seemed that she had forgotten something in the room on the second floor. It was very important and she had to go up and get it.
This idea came out of nowhere. She tilted her head and thought about it. Suddenly, her memory seemed to be opened, and a picture rushed out of her mind.
In the picture, the girl's half-long hair dances in the wind, and the simple red and white school uniform looks so fresh and refined on her. Opposite her stands a boy who looks a little older than her, holding something in his hand. When the camera moves closer, it turns out to be a necklace with a pendant.
The images of the girl and boy were not clear, but Yang Shushu was inexplicably unsure who they were, and the strong desire to go back to the house became even clearer. She exhaled heavily, trying to ignore the strong thought, but her feet seemed to have taken root and she couldn't lift them up.
She wiped her face and cursed softly, "I'll go get it for you. Is it okay to go back and get it?"
What can I do? It's her fault for occupying someone else's body. What I owe must be repaid.
