Chapter 36: Scheming

Old Master Mu didn't look particularly angry. He had never looked at Yang Shushu straight in the eye before, but tonight he looked at her seriously more than once, as if he wanted to see through her to her bones.

Yang Shushu even thought that if this old man Mu was an idealist, he would be burned to death if he couldn't get rid of it.

After hearing her words, Old Master Mu nodded, then looked at Mu Shicang: "This matter is Ah Cang's business, he will handle it, as long as you make him trust you, I have nothing to say."

Haha! That sounds nice!

At this time, she heard the old man say again: "It's getting late, and you are tired. Uncle Liang will take you to your room to rest."

Hearing the commanding tone, Yang Shushu lowered her head and curled her lips, but didn't say anything in the end. She nodded and followed Uncle Liang up to the second floor.

After the two figures disappeared at the stairs to the second floor, Old Master Mu moved slowly, and Mu Shicang stepped forward to help him stand up. In fact, the old master was still quite strong, so Mu Shicang only gave him a slight support and then let go.

"Come with Grandpa to the door and breathe some fresh air."

Breathing fresh air in the middle of the night, Mu Shicang knew that he had something to say to him, but he didn't want even Uncle Liang to hear it.

The old man and the young man went out together, but they didn't walk far. They just circled around the villa. The Mu residence was halfway up the mountain, and the air was much better than at the foot of the mountain. It was even more so at this late hour. Old Master Mu took a deep breath and seemed to be in better spirits than before.

"A Cang, are you sad?" Old Master Mu suddenly asked without any context.

Mu Shicang understood what he meant. He neither shook his head nor nodded. He just lowered his eyes and thought for a while, then stopped. At this moment, he was right next to the exquisitely carved Lu Ning. The dim light reflected on his face, which looked a little confused and complicated.

"Grandpa, I can't explain it either. That house holds the most important memories of me and my parents. It records the few beautiful things we had together. I can't bear to leave it, I really don't want to, but..."

He raised his eyelids, pursed his lips, and said, "But I feel like I'm a little relieved, as if... as if the nightmare that has accompanied me for all these years can finally end..."

Old Master Mu stood quietly not far away, looking at him. His eyes were kind, without any sharpness, just like an ordinary grandfather. "Then... do you still want to do that thing?"

The confusion on Mu Shicang's face disappeared almost in the blink of an eye, and he showed his usual smile: "I have never done anything for my parents. That is the only thing I can do for them. How can I give up?"

Looking at the smile on his grandson's face, Old Master Mu sighed helplessly. Outsiders all thought that he was still the real helmsman of the Mu family, but that was only when his grandson was willing to be controlled. Mostly in official matters, his grandson was willing to listen to his opinions, but once he wanted to do something, no one could change it, including him.

Yang Shushu thought that it was his disregard that caused the Mu family's attitude towards her, but wasn't it also that A Cang wanted to torture her?

"A Cang, the girl from the Yang family is not simple. She was able to pretend to be so weak right under our noses. It shows that her mind is definitely not as simple as it seems. Even her last suicide may have been a play she directed and acted out to escape from you. From now on... you'd better be careful and don't let her realize your intentions too early."

Mu Shicang smiled and nodded. This girl is quite capable, and even her grandfather looks at her with admiration.

After the grandfather and grandson had talked enough, they returned to the house. Uncle Liang was already waiting in the living room. When Uncle Liang helped the old man back to the room, the old man suddenly asked a strange question. He asked Uncle Liang: "Ah Liang, do you believe in ghosts?"

Uncle Liang was stunned for a moment and shook his head: "I don't believe it."

The old man nodded, as if talking to him, or perhaps talking to himself: "Well, I don't believe it either."

At that time, Yang Shushu couldn't sleep and was thirsty, so she wanted to sneak downstairs. But when she heard these words, she was so scared that she ran back quietly. Then she went back to her room, closed the door, and sat on the ground with her hands against her chest.

Oh my god! This old man is a bit scary. Don't talk about ghosts at night, okay? What if a ghost like me comes to settle the score with you?

Yang Shushu has a bad temper and is essentially a funny person. She rolled around in her room with her pillow in her arms for half the night, and when she fell asleep in a daze in the early morning, she dreamed that she had turned into an evil ghost and was being chased all over the mountain by a Taoist priest hired by Old Master Mu. The Taoist priest happened to be Uncle Liang, the housekeeper of Old Master Mu.

The next morning, when Yang Shushu saw Uncle Liang, she almost knelt down instinctively. Her panda eyes were so ugly that it was hard to say how ugly they were.

When everyone was seated at the dining table and saw the dark circles under her eyes, Mu Qingyi was the first to taunt her: "Oh, you must have done something bad and couldn't sleep last night, right?"

Yang Shushu had two dark panda eyes and a sinister smile on her face: "I didn't sleep well. Last night I had a dream that I died again and turned into a ghost, chasing you everywhere."

Her words, coupled with her expression, were truly eerie. Mu Chunyu, sitting next to Old Master Mu, placed his chopsticks heavily on the table and said, "Don't talk while eating. Do you understand the rules?"

Yang Shushu wasn't very energetic, but when she met the Mu family, she was like a fighter jet with chicken blood: "I haven't eaten yet, but you've already started eating. Why are you still talking?"

Mu Chunyu was so angry that his hands were shaking. He turned around and complained to Old Master Mu: "Brother, how did you teach your granddaughter-in-law? I told you at the beginning that you couldn't marry a woman from a family like this, but you let Shi Cang be willful. Now you know what happened, right? We are all family now, but if someone like this happens, one day you will be embarrassed and kicked out of the house."

Yang Shushu sat next to Mu Shicang, just face to face with Mu Chunyu. She listened to Mu Chunyu gossiping to Old Master Mu, but instead of getting angry, she laughed. Everyone wondered what she was laughing at, but she said nothing.

Until Mu Shicang asked her: "What are you laughing at?"

She replied politely, "The old ladies in our neighborhood gather together in the small park upstairs every day to gossip. My aunt's expression really captured the essence of it. It turns out that my aunt has such a lively life."

After she finished speaking, she imitated the celebrities and noble ladies on TV, covering her mouth and laughing exaggeratedly. That expression amused Mu Shicang, and he even reached out and patted her head: "Be good, be careful not to choke yourself."

Seeing the couple singing and shouting, Mu Chunyu was so angry that he threw the bowl and said, "Brother, you don't do anything about them being like this?"

Old Master Mu's calm expression showed some signs of cracking. Every time his younger sister came back, she would make the whole house in turmoil. Usually, the younger generations in the family respected her as an elder and let her act like a spoiled brat. But now with Yang Shushu, who refused to give in, the Mu family was about to become a chaotic place.

Even when making a decision worth tens of billions, Old Master Mu didn't feel so embarrassed. He looked at Mu Shicang expressionlessly, suggesting that he should explain quickly, but in fact he wanted him to discipline Yang Shushu.

Mu Shicang seemed to understand what his grandfather meant, but he said, "The police will be here to investigate the fire soon. Let's eat quickly. After we finish eating, we will be questioned again."
