Chapter 1082: Change (1)
Ye Mei and Ye Ke jumped onto Jin Xingming's carriage. Jin Xingming was quite capable, having even bribed the servants of the Prime Minister's Mansion. Even so, the palace guards outside discovered what Ye Mei and Ye Ke were doing. The carriage was in front, and the soldiers were in hot pursuit.
Ye Ke peeked out the carriage window and heard the sharp, hurried hooves of horses behind him, remarkably clear in the pitch-black night. His heart tightened. He looked at Ye Mei with some trepidation and said, "Sister, what should we do? If they catch up, we're doomed." He then urged the driver, "Can you hurry up?"
The driver whipped the horse harder, and the horse sped up a bit, and Ye Ke felt a little more at ease. Suddenly, he remembered something and said, "Sister, when did you get ready? If you hadn't prepared the carriage earlier, I'm afraid we wouldn't have gotten far before someone caught up with us."
"Of course I have to plan these things early on." Ye Mei would not tell Ye Ke that the carriage was obtained by Jin Xingming, nor would she tell Ye Ke that they were going to escape with Jin Xingming today. In other words, Ye Ke was not included in Ye Mei's original plan.
Seeing that the carriage was about to reach a street corner, Ye Mei looked outside and said, "This won't work. If there are two of us in one carriage, it will be easier for them to catch up. If they go all out, they might catch up. It's better to act separately and meet up later on Babao Street."
"Are we going to separate?" Ye Ke was at his most nervous. He was a little panicked when he heard that he and Ye Mei were going to separate. He said, "Let's go together. We can take care of each other on the way."
"If we walk together, we'll be easily caught up by the soldiers behind us. Don't worry, you stay in the carriage, I'll get off first, and the driver will take you from a secluded place to Bajiao Street. We'll meet there later. Everything about leaving the city has been arranged, so nothing will go wrong."
Hearing that he didn't need to get off the carriage, Ye Ke felt relieved and stopped trying to stop Ye Mei. Ye Mei asked the coachman to stop by the side of the street, and he hid his face with his hat before disappearing into the night.
The coachman continued to pull Ye Ke forward.
Ye Ke's figure was no longer visible on the street. Ye Mei looked at the disappearing carriage, and slowly raised her lips under her veil. She groped her way to a small house at the other end and knocked on the door. Soon, someone came to open the door, and Ye Mei quickly slipped in.
In the darkness, the man asked, "Is everything settled?"
Ye Mei nodded.
Elsewhere, Ye Ke sat in the carriage. After Ye Mei got off, the driver sped up. Gradually, the sounds of the soldiers chasing them faded, and Ye Ke felt a little relieved. When he could no longer hear the pursuers, he felt the bumpy ride was a bit uncomfortable and said, "Can you go slower?"
The coachman turned a deaf ear and continued to drive the carriage at a very fast speed. Ye Ke was a little dissatisfied. He lifted the curtain of the carriage and looked out, but was surprised when he saw it.
This is not a city at all, it's clearly a mountain!
Because the mountain road was so rugged, the bumpier it got, the harder it was to get there. Ye Ke was startled, then he remembered that this was Babao Street, and it definitely wasn't that far away. How did the coachman drive the carriage here? He said, "Don't go any further! Go back to Babao Street!"
The coachman ignored him and continued to move forward. Ye Ke was very angry, but he was afraid to shout loudly to attract the soldiers. When he was about to speak, the carriage gradually stopped. Ye Ke was stunned, and then he realized that the coachman was going to stop the carriage.
The driver was so disobedient that Ye Ke planned to teach him a lesson once he reached Babao Street. Just then, the carriage stopped, and a rustling sound was heard from the front, as the driver got out.
