Chapter 140: Burning of the Ancestral Hall (7)
Shen Miao frowned: “What are you doing here?”
Xie Jingxing smiled and ignored her. He seemed to be searching for something in the room. It took him only an incense stick of time to finish his search. However, the result was obviously not satisfactory. He didn't find anything.
Shen Miao watched his every move, suspicions growing in her heart. Xie Jingxing looked like he was looking for something in the Shen Mansion. But what could be so worthy of him being such a risky person in the General's Mansion that he would personally search for it? What else did she not know?
“Tell me what you’re looking for, and I can help you find it.” Shen Miao said.
Xie Jingxing paused, turned his head and looked at her inquiringly, and said with interest: "Shen family girl, I know you are the smartest among the Shen family, but you should not set your sights on me."
"Then you came to my house in broad daylight to steal things. Does that mean you are targeting the Shen family?" Shen Miao was unmoved. In her heart, she was a little annoyed at Xie Jingxing's tight control. She gave in just to find out what it was. But this man was so vigilant that he didn't even give her a chance.
"Steal?" Xie Jingxing seemed to have heard something funny, and his beautiful peach blossom eyes suddenly flashed with a dangerous light: "That originally belonged to me, so I can only take it."
Shen Miao's mind moved, as if she had grasped something, but the idea disappeared too quickly, making it impossible for her to catch it.
“However,” Xie Jingxing glanced at the ancestral hall, “There are so many people guarding this place. I originally thought they were protecting something, but it turns out they are watching over you.” He looked at Shen Miao, crossed his arms and said, “What crime have you committed that deserves so many people to detain you? The ancestral hall is not a place for a young lady to live.”
"What does it have to do with you?" Shen Miao looked at the hourglass. The last bit of sand had already trickled down from the top. Time was almost up. But Xie Jingxing hadn't left yet. Her patience was running out, so she said, "Young Marquis, since you haven't found 'your things,' please leave. The ancestors of the Shen family don't want to see the heroic appearance of a gentleman on the beam."
Her words were sarcastic. It was likely that no one had ever dared to speak to Xie Jingxing like that in his entire life, and she was still a little girl. However, he didn't get angry, and only teased, "Indeed, the ancestors of the Shen family didn't want to see me, but they were willing to see their descendants forced into marriage. That's quite a bit of fun."
"Don't you want to marry Wei Qian?" he asked.
"What if you are willing? What if you are not willing?" Shen Miao asked back.
"Wei Qian is a good man, but you are not a good wife. You just picked him up. This is the first time I have seen such an ungrateful person." He narrowed his eyes, and the devilish smile on the corner of his lips was so handsome that it made people dazzled. He said frivolously: "You are not unwilling to marry Wei Qian because you like me?"
Shen Miao was almost laughing out of anger. She turned around and glared at Xie Jingxing: "If you think so, I have no problem with it. I just want to advise the young marquis not to get involved in some things. Otherwise, when you regret it, it will be too late."
Her face was a little pale, probably because she hadn't eaten or slept well in the ancestral hall these days. She had lost some weight, but the girl's outline was more distinct, her chin had become pointed, and her pair of eyes that could speak were extremely clear, but Xie Jingxing saw fire burning in them.
"Girl!" Jingzhe ran in and was startled when she saw Xie Jingxing. She immediately protected Shen Miao behind her and pointed at Xie Jingxing, "You, you, how did you get in?"
Xie Jingxing shrugged and did not answer.
“Just pretend he’s not here.” Shen Miao didn’t bother to pay attention to him and asked Jing Zhe, “How are you managing things?”
