Chapter 248 Family (2)
"My young lady is the fifth daughter of the Shen family in the General's Mansion," Jingzhe stepped forward and put the sachet containing the silver anklet into the hands of the head jailer, saying, "I came here specifically to see the eldest daughter."
Shen Miao took out the token that Shen Qiu had given him from his sleeve and waved it in front of the head jailer. The man took one look and saluted respectfully, saying, "So you are Miss Shen Wu." Shen Xin's reputation spread throughout Dingjing City. Not to mention the head jailer, even officials would give her some face when they saw her.
“I want to go see my elder sister. Please lead the way.” Shen Miao said.
The head jailer smiled and said, "Originally, no one is allowed to visit these days, but since Miss Shen Wu has spoken, please follow me." After that, he gave a few more instructions to the jailers guarding outside. Jingzhe and Guyu stayed outside and walked in with Shen Miao.
Shen Qing's identity is very embarrassing now. No one can say for sure whether he will have a chance to get rid of the crime in the future. However, even if he is really acquitted, Shen Qing will have a very difficult life with such a reputation.
“In fact, Miss Fifth doesn’t have to worry too much,” the head jailer said with a smile, “Although Miss Shen is still in prison, once the truth of this matter comes to light, Miss Shen will not be implicated too much.” He thought that since Shen Miao came to visit Shen Qing, the two sisters must have a very close relationship. No matter what, making Shen Miao feel comfortable is at least doing a favor for Shen Xin.
Shen Miao nodded: “Thank you for your guidance, sir.”
When a stone staircase appeared before them, the head jailer stopped and said, "Miss Shen is being held downstairs. Fifth Miss, go down and speak to her. My men and I will be waiting outside. Just don't talk too long."
Shen Miao thanked him again, and after the head jailer and several other jailers in the cell had deliberately moved away, she leisurely walked down the stairs.
Walking down the long staircase, at the end was a cell, surrounded by iron bars and a single, fist-sized window. This was where serious criminals were held. A row of torches lit the stone walls, but the flickering flames in the gloomy cell, against the backdrop of the human figures, made it seem a bit eerie.
The cell was covered with straw, and on top of it was a dirty quilt. The quilt was probably infested with lice, and tiny black particles could be vaguely seen. The person sitting on the straw, wrapped in the quilt, had his head buried in his knees, and it was unclear whether he was asleep or not.
Shen Miao watched quietly for a long while before walking over and gently knocking on the iron fence a few times.
The man who had buried his head in his knees suddenly raised his head, revealing a slightly frightened face. When he saw clearly that it was Shen Miao, his frightened look turned into anger, and he gritted his teeth and shouted, "Shen Miao!"
"It's me." Shen Miao took a step back gently to avoid Shen Qing's random scratching. Her guess was indeed correct. The next moment, Shen Qing pounced on her, his hands reaching over the iron fence to grab Shen Miao, but he was separated by the fence and could only wave his arms in vain.
“It seems you still haven’t learned your lesson.” Shen Miao chuckled and looked at her leisurely: “Don’t waste your energy, it’s useless.”
Shen Qing put his hand down in hatred and suddenly burst into laughter: "Shen Miao, did you come here to demonstrate to me? Are you here to see how miserable I am? I tell you, one day, you will be a hundred times more miserable than me!"
“What a pity,” Shen Miao looked at her with pity: “Even if that day really comes, you won’t be able to see it.”
Shen Qing was stunned, a flash of fear in her eyes. She had been imprisoned in this cell for several days, and even she herself didn't understand what was going on. She had always been spoiled and had thought that the night she spent with Prince Yu in Wolong Temple was the most painful time in her life. She had never expected the subsequent bad news to be more terrifying than the last: pregnancy, the return banquet, marriage, and the bloody massacre on the night of her wedding. Now, she was reduced to a prisoner. She suppressed her uneasiness and said stubbornly, "Don't try to lie to me. This matter has nothing to do with me. Could it be that I would be implicated?"
