Chapter 431 Turkic Invasion (5)
Shen Miao looked at Luo Qian, feeling slightly surprised. She hadn't expected that someone as carefree as Luo Qian could actually say something like this. The Luo family was truly righteous, kind, and genuinely genuine.
Yet, hearing this story from Luo Qian brought a wave of sadness. The once-mighty general suffered the worst defeat of his life. Was it due to overconfidence or a lack of assurance of the outcome? Shen Miao believed that Luo Sui wasn't someone he couldn't afford to lose; the only thing he couldn't afford to lose was Madam Luo. He had chosen honor over his ailing wife, only to be slapped in the face by the end. No wonder Luo Sui's face had changed color so instantly when Shen Miao had spoken those words that day. Perhaps the general's deepest pain had been stirred up again.
“But if things become desolate like this, will Grandmother be happy?” Shen Miao suddenly asked.
"Huh?" Luo Qian turned to look at her, somewhat puzzled.
Shen Miao smiled, "If I admire someone, and if he is a hero, I would definitely want him to wear the sword he deserves, ride the horse he deserves, lead the bravest soldiers, and achieve the most proud feats. I don't want him to suffer any injustice. If my grandfather were to suffer injustice now, wouldn't my grandmother feel distressed if she knew about it? If it were me, I would feel distressed."
Luo Qian was a bit bewildered by Shen Miao's words. Putting aside the other things, the mere mention of "admiration" in front of a man like him still left him a bit shocked. Ma had also said that Shen Miao was a girl from Dingjing City, delicate and timid, and needed to be taken care of well, and that she must be easily shy. Now it seemed... Where was she shy at all? She was probably even more outspoken than Luo Tan!
Just as he was thinking about it, he heard a servant outside shouting: "Master, the second master is back!"
Everyone looked towards the hall door. It was Luo Ling and Luo Sa. It was damp outside, probably due to rain. Their clothes seemed soaked with water. Luo Ling and Luo Sa had just returned from the garrison, and they looked rather dusty.
Yu first ordered the servant to pour tea for the two of them, and Luo Sa drank it in one gulp. Luo Tan had already run up and asked Luo Ling, "Brother Ling, what's going on outside?"
"Looking like it's going to hail, I've already told everyone to go back inside. Everything's ready outside, too." Luo Ling replied with a smile, "My second brother and I will stay here to watch over the night. We have a sturdy hall, so we're not afraid."
"What happened to Dad, Uncle and Grandpa?" Luo Tan asked relentlessly.
Luo Sa frowned and said, "He hasn't come back yet."
Luo Tan was about to say something when Luo Ling saw Luo Qian and Shen Miao coming over and hurriedly said, "Nothing, I guess I'm a little busy tonight and will be back tomorrow." He changed the subject, "It smells so good, are we having hot mutton tonight? My cousin has never eaten this before and I don't know if she'll be able to get used to it."
Shen Miao walked up to Luo Ling. Luo Ling was eighteen years old, with features as handsome as Luo Lianying, yet possessed a gentle and considerate disposition like Yu Shi. He was a world away from Luo Sa's violent and unapproachable temperament. Shen Miao asked, "Cousin Ling, have the city guards been deployed?"
Luo Ling was stunned. He didn’t expect Shen Miao to ask this. He replied, “Everything has been arranged.”
“How many people are guarding the city?” Shen Miao asked.
This time, Luo Sa’s eyes were fixed on Shen Miao.
When the younger generation talked, Yu and Ma stayed away. Luo Qian asked, "Why are you asking this, little cousin? It's hailstorm tonight, so no one will come into the city."
"Thirty in the east, thirty in the west, plus ten in the north, a total of more than seventy people." Luo Ling answered patiently.
