Chapter 532 What the King Wants (3)

Chapter 532 The King Wants (3)

Shen Wan glanced at her, suddenly realizing her identity, and said, “Miss Chang.”

Chang Zaiqing had only met Shen Wan once, when she first arrived at the Shen residence. That evening, Chen Ruoqiu took her to Rongjing Hall to pay her respects to Old Madam Shen. The lights were dim, and everyone was preoccupied with their daytime affairs, so Shen Wan hadn't noticed Chang Zaiqing. But upon closer inspection, she was a rare and elegant beauty. Thinking that Chen Ruoqiu and Chang Zaiqing seemed to be close friends, Shen Wan became even more friendly.

"What is Miss Chang doing?" Shen Wan asked with a smile.

Chang Zaiqing glanced back at the flower bed at the gate and said with a smile, "It rained last night, and many branches of flowers were soaked by the rain and damaged by the wind. I'm trying to 'bandage' them."

"Bandage?" Shen Wan was curious and asked, "How do you bandage flowers?"

Chang Zaiqing smiled slightly: "Third Master, just watch."

Shen Wan walked over to the flower bed to take a look. Sure enough, he saw scattered branches, some wrapped in strips of cloth, some coated with something like potion, but carefully arranged in a very neat manner. There were some scissors and strips of cloth lying around, and one flower was about half broken and then reattached.

"You're thoughtful," Shen Wan sighed. "It's rare to put in the effort." Last night's thunderstorm inevitably damaged some of the flowers and plants. Even a flower lover like Chen Ruoqiu, after a moment of regret, would have thrown them away. Broken flowers and plants are no longer as beautiful as they once were, and keeping them is a nuisance. Unexpectedly, Chang Zaiqing was so attentive to these flowers and plants, not only not throwing them away, but even "bandaging" them.

"Flowers and plants are living things too," Chang Zaiqing said with a smile. "Since you claim to love flowers, you can't forget your original intention when encountering something like this. All things have spirits, and you can't be someone who says one thing and means another. You keep saying you love flowers and plants, but you can't even do this one thing." Chang Zaiqing said cheerfully, "Besides, it's just a matter of using your hands. It pleases others and yourself, so why not do it?"

"What a delightful person." Shen Wan looked at Chang Zaiqing with admiration: "Miss Chang is the truly elegant person, I am the vulgar one."

"Third Master, you're too kind." Chang Zaiqing joked, "We're all ordinary people, and I have my own selfish desires. If I take good care of the flowers and plants, I'll feel more at ease living in your house in the future. I can still do something useful."

Shen Wan smiled heartily: "Miss Chang, you are worrying too much. Even if Miss Chang can't plant anything, no one in the Shen Mansion will want to drive you away."

Chang Zaiqing also laughed: "Thank you very much, Third Master." She suddenly remembered something and looked at Shen Wan: "Speaking of which, I accidentally set up a chess game yesterday, but I can't solve it no matter what. I wanted to ask the Third Madam to help me take a look, but the Third Madam seems to be a little busy today. I heard that the Third Master is also a chess master. Could you give Zaiqing some pointers?"

Then he thought of something and said with a smile, "I can make tea for the Third Master. The Third Madam may have told you that I make very delicious tea."

Her attitude was so graceful that if she refused, it would have been impolite of Shen Wan. In the end, she used tea as a condition, which made her look a bit playful. Shen Wan thought for a moment and then smiled and said, "Being respectful is better than obeying!"

The two of them went to the stone table in the garden and started playing chess. While playing, they also chatted casually. Shen Wan was surprised to find that Chang Zaiqing was not only an outstanding chess player, but also covered everything from astronomy to earth when talking to him. Moreover, he had a broad vision and could even have a say in matters of the court. Shen Wan had always admired talented people and did not pay much attention to the beauty of women. He favored Chen Ruoqiu in the backyard because she was proficient in piano, chess, calligraphy and painting and was an absolute talent. However, Chen Ruoqiu had a bad side. Because she came from a family of scholars, she would occasionally put on airs and act a little self-righteous. If it happened once or twice, it would be interesting, but living together day in and day out, it was inevitable that Chen Ruoqiu would feel that she was a little too petty and fussy.
