Chapter 86: Meeting the Young Marquis at Night (7)
Thinking of this, Ren Wanyun's panic eased a little. She glanced at the sky and said, "I'll just rest for a while."
Xianglan and Caiju were delighted to see that she was finally willing to rest. They hurriedly helped Ren Wanyun to lie down on the bed and said, "Madam, please rest for a while. You still need to be energetic tomorrow."
"Yes." Ren Wanyun murmured, "I have to stay alert tomorrow." After all, tomorrow's exciting show will have to be finished by her personally.
…
The rain continued all night long.
In the quiet mountain forest, the rain has just stopped, and all things are withering. The autumn rain has become even cooler. The air is filled with a moist fragrance. Early in the morning, the monks ringing the temple bells begin to ring.
The dull bell rang and woke up the sleeping person. Ren Wanyun opened her eyes. She had a very restless sleep that night and had nightmares all the time. She fell asleep near dawn. When she woke up, her forehead was covered with sweat.
"Madam is awake." Xianglan stepped forward and said, "Wipe your face."
After washing up, Ren Wanyun looked outside. Outside the window, the quiet after the rain had returned, and the birds were still singing happily.
She smiled and said, "Change into something brighter. I also want that ruby-encrusted emerald bead flower."
She was now middle-aged and had long been accustomed to wearing dark-colored clothes. It was rare for her to personally choose something bright and eye-catching. Cai Ju smiled and said, "Madam, you must be in a good mood. Wearing such bright colors makes you look much more energetic."
Ren Wanyun looked in the mirror and smiled with satisfaction. She was naturally in a good mood, and could be said to be very happy.
After everything was ready, she said, "Let's go, it's time to call my 'tired' niece for dinner."
The innermost room of the North Pavilion was completely silent, with not even a single maidservant in the courtyard. Ren Wanyun saw this and looked quite satisfied, thinking that Prince Yu had handled matters very well, even sending the maids away.
If she wasn't afraid of causing trouble, she would have wanted to immediately announce to the world that the person inside had lost her virginity. However, she held back for the time being for the sake of her future measures.
"Go knock on the door." She said to Xianglan, with a hint of disgust in her eyes.
She also looked down upon women with dirty bodies, but she forgot who was the instigator who made Shen Miao become what she is now.
"Fifth Miss," Xianglan walked to the door and knocked, "The eldest lady is here."
There was no movement inside the door, as if there was no one there.
"Fifth Miss, the eldest lady is here." Xianglan continued.
But after knocking on the door for a long time, no one answered.
Ren Wanyun sighed and said with a smile, "Fifth sister, you're really childish. It's already daybreak and you're still lazy. It won't do if you delay the incense burning. Let me do it."
She walked to the door, knocked gently, and said softly, "Fifth sister, it's time to get up and eat. After dinner, we still have to burn incense, so don't be willful."
Still no one in the room answered her.
Ren Wanyun turned around, feeling somewhat helpless, not knowing whether she was explaining to herself or to someone else. She said softly, "Forget it, just push the door open and go in. Fifth sister's maids are so ignorant that they leave without permission. I must punish them severely when I get back." As she spoke, she was about to push the door open and go in.
"Second Aunt." A light voice rang out in the silence. Ren Wanyun was startled at first, thinking the voice came from inside the house, but then she heard Xianglan and Caiju say in unison, "Fifth Miss, Second Miss."
She turned around in surprise and saw Shen Yue and Shen Miao standing together.
Today, Shen Miao wore a snow-white silk dress, covered by a moon-white cloak embroidered with peonies. At first glance, she looked like she was in mourning. She was used to seeing Shen Miao in bright red and green, somewhat rustic outfits, but this one was simply ethereal and otherworldly. Paired with her somewhat aloof expression, it surprisingly had a moving feel.
