198. Extra: Yao Xiuyuan x Yingnian (Seventeen) (2 / 3)

Ying Nian was amused by his last sentence, "Why don't you think about whether you have done something terrible to him, so he is afraid of you and just wants to crawl under the bed."

Yao Xiuyuan felt that he was wronged. "Surely, these are your pets. How dare I bully them?"

"So you're not going to have someone cook for you?"

"Don't look for it yet." Yao Xiuyuan said calmly, "You are the most suitable for this position at the moment."

Seeing that he insisted, Ying Nian stopped trying to persuade him. After all, Yao Xiuyuan could cook, he was just lazy. If he could overcome this, Ying Nian thought it would be a good thing.

However, Ying Nian obviously overthought. When he was at home, Yao Xiuyuan went home for dinner. When he was not at home, Yao Xiuyuan ate outside with Qin Xue and others. Time passed quickly, and it was the new year. Yao Xiuyuan looked at the red lanterns hanging on the tree and realized that it was the New Year.

Yingnian is supposed to go back to his hometown for the New Year. Yao Xiuyuan was a little surprised by this. "Go back to my hometown?"

Ying Nian nodded. He and Yao Xiuyuan had known each other for a long time, so he knew why he was surprised. He explained, "I went back to my hometown mainly to visit my parents' graves. As you know, my job doesn't have any normal holidays, so I can't go back during the Qingming Festival. Going back now is a good opportunity for me to visit them and visit their graves."

"Do you still have your house in your hometown?" Yao Xiuyuan asked him.

"Yes, my uncle gave the house my parents had back then back to me after I returned. I asked their daughter to help me look after it and clean it regularly so that I could stay there for a few days during the Chinese New Year."

Yao Xiuyuan did not ask much about his simplicity. From what he knew, he did not have many good memories about Yingnian's uncle's family. Yao Xiuyuan did not want him to mention these bad memories too much.

"Okay then." He nodded. "I was thinking that if you were going to spend the New Year alone, you could come to our house, but since you have to go back to visit your parents' graves, I feel embarrassed to persuade you to come with me. You should be careful and call me if you have any problems."

"Yeah." Ying Nian raised the corners of his lips and smiled slightly.

Before leaving, he dragged Yao Xiuyuan to clean the house. Yao Xiuyuan didn't like doing housework. While listening to his instructions and cleaning the windows, he advised him, "Can I hire a cleaner? We can stop wasting time."

Ying Nian actually liked the feeling of cleaning up before the Chinese New Year, which gave him an inexplicable sense of security and comfort, as if he had his own home. So he rejected Yao Xiuyuan's proposal and said very firmly, "No, we both have nothing to do at home anyway, so we might as well clean it up. You clean the glass well, and all the glass in the room is yours today."

Yao Xiuyuan looked at the glass in front of him, and thought about the glass in other rooms of his house. He couldn't help but reflect on why he bought such a big house and installed glass windows in every room. He couldn't do anything about Ying Nian, so he had to tease him verbally, calling him "Nian Nian" when he opened his mouth and "Nian Nian" when he closed his mouth.

Ying Nian thought he was childish, but Yao Xiuyuan thought he was funny. The two of them cleaned the house while playing around, which was quite lively.

After cleaning the house, Yingnian pasted a couplet and a blessing character on the door, and then he was satisfied and ready to leave. Yao Xiuyuan heard that he was going to drive back alone, and was still a little worried, so he told him to let him know when he arrived. Yingnian nodded in agreement, said "Happy New Year, see you next year", and left.

Yingnian's hometown is a seven-hour drive from the city. From the city to the county and then to the village, it was almost 8 o'clock in the evening when he got home.

Ying Ting was waiting for him at his home. When she saw him come back, she showed him where the newly bought rice, flour, fruits and vegetables were placed, and said a few words to him before slowly leaving.

Ying Nian was a little tired after driving for a while, so he didn't bother to eat. He told Yao Xiuyuan that he was home and then lay down on the bed. The quilt had been dried by Ying Ting in advance, so it was still fluffy and warm when covered. Ying Nian lay down in the home where he lived when he was a child and fell asleep quickly.
