Chapter 11: Falling out

Chapter 11: Falling out

Sheng Yuan's thoughts were brought back to reality.

After so many years, the memories have been covered with a veil.

Those memories are like faded old photos, hazy and the details are not clear.

Only the scene of seeing Mingzhu for the first time is still clear.

"What's the meaning of that photo sent to my phone?"

Mingzhu's voice was calm, almost indifferent.

Only the slightly tense jawline gave away a hint of emotion.

She has never been the type to be melancholy about the passing of time.

But at this moment, my heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand, causing it to ache.

Sheng Yuan was really the only one left by her side.

There was a low laugh from the other end of the phone, with obvious irony.

Sheng Yuan deliberately ignored her question and instead directed his criticism elsewhere: "Mingzhu, you suddenly returned to Shanghai..."

The voice suddenly turned cold, "Are you going to find Lin Huaiyan?"

The sudden appearance of this name made Mingzhu unable to react for a moment.

She didn't know that Sheng Yuan was still brooding over the bachelor party all these years.

She was indeed tired from playing and fell asleep.

When I woke up, I was already lying in my own bed.

She only vaguely remembered that Sheng Yuan came to pick her up.

The party was filled with people who had grown up together.

She never felt that there was anything wrong with it.

I didn't take this matter to heart at all.

But later, Sheng Yuan suddenly became extremely concerned about her whereabouts.

She was not allowed to spend the night outside.

Every time she asked why.

Sheng Yuan was always vague and only said that he was worried about her safety.

"We've been friends for decades, what could go wrong?"

Mingzhu just felt even more confused.

But Sheng Yuan hugged her tighter and acted coquettishly without answering her question.

"Just promise me that you won't spend the night outside from now on, okay?"

As newlyweds, Mingzhu thought it was just her young husband's possessiveness that was at work.

He smiled and agreed to this inexplicable request.

"Lin Huaiyan?"

Mingzhu subconsciously repeated the name, with a hint of confusion in her voice.

It's been too long since we last contacted each other.

This once familiar name now sounds a bit strange when I say it.

Mingzhu didn't quite understand why Sheng Yuan mentioned Lin Huaiyan at this time.

But this period of silence made Sheng Yuan even more angry.

"Lin Huaiyan has been married for a long time." Sheng Yuan continued, gritting his teeth with every word he said.

"You will never have a chance again in your lifetime."

His voice stopped abruptly, and he turned his face away from the speaker of the phone.

His breathing was heavy, and bulging veins snaked along his neck and into the collar of his shirt.

His Adam's apple rolled up and down violently several times.

He swallowed down more hurtful words.

But Mingzhu on the other end of the phone couldn't see what he looked like now.

She still couldn't understand Sheng Yuan's sudden anger.

So I replied blankly.

"What?"

A suffocating silence stretched between the two.

"Let's go back to Beijing tonight," Sheng Yuan finally handed over the steps stiffly.

"I can pretend nothing happened."

After saying that, he added something, as if he was making up his mind.

"Mingzhu, as long as you return to Beijing today, I will forgive you for all these things."

Mingzhu almost laughed out of anger: "Sheng Yuan, you are the one who takes the initiative."

"What I want to know now is, how far have you and Yang Tian progressed?"

"Ordinary friends." Sheng Yuan explained indifferently.

"Oh," Mingzhu sneered, not believing it at all. "Do you think I'm a three-year-old child?"

Her voice suddenly rose.

"Can you be friends with her? If you want to cheat me, find a decent excuse!"

What Sheng Yuan said was not entirely false.

He did have some feelings for Yang Tian.

But that wasn't the affection between a man and a woman, it was more like the affection of having a pet.

That kind of well-behaved and obedient character, the attitude that treats him like a god.

Such a young and vibrant life, such pure and passionate admiration, anyone would be moved.

What’s more, she is a girl who is only twenty years old.

His eyes were so clear and clean as if they had never been contaminated by the world.

When she looked at him, her eyes were filled with an undisguised light.

Such a gaze, such dependence.

It made Sheng Yuan feel a long-lost satisfaction.

Water it with your own hands, carefully care for a budding flower, and watch it bloom for you.

This sense of accomplishment.

It's completely different from the exhaustion I felt when dealing with Mingzhu's unreasonable behavior.

But they can only be considered ordinary friends.

As for that photo, his bodyguard had already discovered the person who took the photo.

The fact that the information could be transferred to Mingzhu's mobile phone was naturally his tacit consent.

"Mingzhu, what qualifications do you have to question me?" Sheng Yuan suddenly asked, "Why are you the only one who pairs up with your group of opposite-sex friends?"

Mingzhu was completely stunned.

Is there something wrong with Sheng Yuan's brain?

She clearly hasn't had any contact with the opposite sex for many years.

"You're slandering me!" Mingzhu's voice trembled with anger. "Sheng Yuan, you're simply unreasonable!"

"I'm being unreasonable?" Sheng Yuan was hysterical on the other end of the phone. "Then what about you and Lin Huaiyan?"

"What's Guan Lin Huaiyan's business!" Mingzhu retorted.

"I haven't contacted him in how many years? It's obviously you who wanted a divorce, and you're throwing dirty water on me!"

"Yes! I just want a divorce!" Sheng Yuan completely broke off relations and didn't care about anything else.

"I've had enough of you over the years! Spoiled, willful, naive, and still acting like a girl at forty-two. You're so childish it's disgusting!"

Sheng Yuan became increasingly agitated as he spoke. "Who out there isn't calling you old? You're the only one who doesn't have any self-awareness! I'm only thirty. Do I have to wait until I'm fifty or sixty and still have to endure your unchanging, spoiled temper?"

Mingzhu froze in place, her ears buzzing.

She couldn't believe that such harsh words would come out of Sheng Yuan's mouth.

Doesn't he know her character?

Was she suddenly twelve years older than he?

Didn't he know this fact when they got married?

After being married for ten years, he suddenly said he couldn't accept that she was twelve years older than him.

I can't accept her spoiled temper.

On the other end of the phone, Sheng Yuan finally regained some sanity after venting his anger.

Once these grievances that have been accumulated for many years are released.

Instead, it made him feel empty.

Sheng Yuan opened his mouth and wanted to say something, but finally chose to remain silent.

Mingzhu took a long time to calm down before she heard the sound of her blood flowing again.

"Okay." She heard her voice was incredibly dry, and she no longer had the energy to argue. "I agree to the divorce."

Just a few simple words severed twelve years of love.

Sheng Yuan held the phone tightly.

But the expected feeling of relief did not appear, instead there was an indescribable sense of loss.

He should have been tired of it.

Tired of her willfulness, tired of her pampering, tired of her endless temper.

But why is the irritability in my heart getting worse and worse?

Having had Mingzhu for too long, my emotions have become blurred.

It made him lose track of what he really wanted.

"I'll arrange for someone to deliver the divorce agreement to you."

Sheng Yuan finished speaking calmly, his voice trembling so much that he himself didn't even notice it.

Twenty-year-old Sheng Yuan is willing to go through fire and water for Mingzhu.

Thirty-year-old Sheng Yuan just wants to escape from this marriage.

Time has passed too long, and Sheng Yuan has long forgotten his original intention.
