Chapter 17: Drugged

"Don't you want the money anymore?" Gu Mingyue asked with a smile, looking at the three people lying on the ground.

Then he took out a wad of cash and bank cards from his bag.

The old woman's wailing voice stopped instantly when she saw the banknotes. Money can soothe pain; she suddenly felt that her mouth didn't hurt so much anymore.

The man swallowed hard, glanced at the injuries on his mother and child, and then looked at Gu Mingyue.

He said he bought the house for three million, but he had only just paid the down payment and hadn't finished paying off the loan yet.

If I call the police, will the court award me that much money? I might as well extort more money from them.

"Of course I want it, but... three million won't do, at least ten million."

Gu Mingyue chuckled lightly, instantly finding people's greedy behavior utterly ridiculous.

"You're all bruised and battered, and you can't even come to the bank with me. Why don't you call your wives and come upstairs?" Gu Mingyue said calmly, looking at the group.

His gaze was now fixed as if on a dead object.

The woman downstairs, upon seeing her husband's message, couldn't help but hum a little tune. The silly woman upstairs had actually agreed to pay compensation.

Afraid that the people upstairs might change their minds while waiting impatiently, she quickly grabbed her handbag and ran upstairs.

Hmph! So what if they're rich? They still make a fool of us!

The message said there was only one woman, so she's hard to control. She's even considering calling her brother over. Someone as timid as her must also be very concerned about her reputation.

If they take some photos and keep threatening them, wouldn't they become rich?

But when she entered the door, she didn't see the fearful and timid look of the single woman. Instead, she saw her son and husband, their faces bruised and swollen, lying on the ground, their bodies piled with red banknotes, as if they had been knocked unconscious by money.

The woman ran over, trembling, and looked at the two faces through the money. She found that they were no longer breathing. A chill instantly ran from the soles of her feet to her head, and her whole body shook like a leaf!

Gu Mingyue closed the door before the woman could scream, and then slit her throat with a knife.

The family is now reunited!

Gu Mingyue remained calm throughout.

He calmly wiped away the bloodstains, calmly checked the phones of the others, and calmly put the body into his spatial storage.

Feed the animals on time.

Then, as usual, I went back to have dinner.

A bright and sunny morning.

Gu Mingyue was training by running laps around the park.

I could clearly feel that there were twice as many people exercising around me as before.

Some people were exercising while whispering among themselves, discussing whether a meteor shower would occur tomorrow night.

Shopping malls are offering one promotion after another, all riding the wave of doomsday rumors to boost sales. Ostensibly discounts, they are actually raising prices several times over from the original levels.

I passed by a breakfast shop, ate a plate of pan-fried buns and two bowls of tofu pudding, and then packed ten servings of each to go.

They strolled back leisurely.

To adapt to life without power in the later stages of the apocalypse, Gu Mingyue has been avoiding elevators for the past few days, relying entirely on the stairs in the emergency exits to go up and down.

On her first day back after her rebirth, her legs trembled as she climbed the 17th floor in one go. Now, she can easily take two steps at a time and walk up quickly.

Even after returning home, he can practice horse stance for half an hour.

As I passed the 16th floor, I heard a knock on the door.

"Sister, is brother-in-law home? It's me, Qi Wei. Open the door."

"Hello? Why aren't you answering my calls or replying to my messages?"

The man made a clicking sound.

"Strange, wasn't it supposed to be good news? They didn't explain what it was, and now the person has disappeared!"

After confirming that no one was around, the man left, grumbling.

Gu Mingyue glanced at him secretly and saw a muscular man with tattooed arms.

After secretly memorizing the facial features, she continued upwards.

Before I even reached the door, I ran into an acquaintance.

Gu Zihao, sporting a pompadour hairstyle, stared at the steel gate in front of him, puzzled.

How come the front door of my house has been replaced after only a little over a month?

My older sister didn't move away, did she?

Hearing approaching footsteps, he turned around.

"Sis, why are you only coming back now? I've been waiting for ages! When did we get a new front door?"

Gu Mingyue gave him a cold glance but didn't rush to open the door.

He said coldly, "Speak your mind, or shut up. This house has nothing to do with you anymore, so don't come back."

"Sis, can you share some of the money you have with me?" Gu Zihao pretended not to understand and stepped forward, trying to grab Gu Mingyue's hand and beg for money as he always did.

In the past, whenever he grabbed Gu Mingyue's hand and acted coquettishly, saying that the school had organized some kind of activity, she would willingly pay for it.

Gu Mingyue took a step back to avoid his movement.

“I have no money, I’ll ask your biological father and stepmother for it.”

Gu Zihao thought she was still angry with him, so he apologized again: "Sis, it's been so long, are you still angry with me?"

“I…I’ve spent all that money.” His eyes darted around.

"Sis, you still have 500 million, what's wrong with giving me 200 million? I'm your own brother!"

"etc!"

Gu Mingyue looked at him with a curious expression, turning around to examine him.

Gu Zihao's hair was slightly oily, and he had a stubble around his mouth, giving him a somewhat颓废 (颓废 is a difficult word to translate directly, but it implies a sense of listlessness, apathy, or even a sense of being worn down) look.

He was wearing sneakers that cost 100,000 yuan a pair, and there were creases on the instep, indicating that they had been worn for many days.

"Five hundred million, and you spent it all in less than two months? You're something else!"

He did what Wang Duoyu couldn't do!

"Have you fallen into the three-piece criminal trap?"

Gu Zihao's face showed a look of shame, as if he had been caught out.

"Damn, I really should have sent you to the Gu family a long time ago. With your spendthrift ways, you might have bankrupted Gu Jianshu by now!"
