Chapter 178 Breaking Through the City Gate

The level 5 giant monster, with its enormous hands resembling two refrigerators, clenched its fists and pounded them forcefully against the crumbling walls of the Bright Moon Base, seemingly about to enter the base itself.

Anxiety also crept into Gu Mingyue's eyes.

Only she knew how difficult it was to establish a stable base in the apocalypse.

She had the time and energy to build such a large base in her Bright Moon Base before these level four and five monsters evolved.

Her arsenal included a large hospital, a virus research lab, vast farmlands, and dozens of livestock sheds.

These resources, which were abundant before the apocalypse, are things that people after the apocalypse would never even dare to dream of.

She had worked so hard to build it; if these level-five giant monsters were to break in, they could be flattened in a few slaps.

All the base members who pledged their loyalty to her will be displaced.

How could she possibly have the time and energy to build a new base to absorb 20,000 to 30,000 base residents?

Will she be able to successfully redeem that super survival suit that's waterproof, fireproof, and protected against nuclear radiation before humanity is wiped out? Gu Mingyue tried to calm herself down and ordered everyone to aim their grenades at the level 5 giant monsters that were trying to break into the base.

Banging sounds rang out continuously as helicopters flying overhead and tanks outside the city walls dropped bombs incessantly.

Thanks to the ample ammunition Gu Mingyue bought from Hope Base, there really wasn't any other base that could consume ammunition so freely.

Level 4 and 5 monsters are no pushovers either; they are physically strong, heal quickly, have high attack power, and possess basic intelligence.

The level 5 giants were indeed thrown into disarray by the grenade attacks, crushing many monster and human corpses, as well as tanks the size of his foot.

Gradually, they discovered the weakness of these grenades' firepower: the wall they had initially intended to breach.

So these level 5 giant monsters took a running start and rushed towards the wall of the Bright Moon Base, collapsing into the Bright Moon Base along with the wall.

The exposed high-voltage electric fences on the city wall crackled and hissed as they coiled around the animals, sending up white and purple electric flashes that burned their skin black and emitted the smell of burning flesh and a faint wisp of smoke.

The monster convulsed slightly for a few seconds amidst the shattered bricks and wire poles.

While dodging the car-sized blue giant feet falling continuously outside the city wall, Gu Mingyue kept her eyes fixed on the figures of the level 5 giant monsters that had invaded the Mingyue base.

They immediately noticed the giant monsters' fatal weakness of being afraid of electricity. At that moment, Xinghe's clear and pleasant voice came through Gu Mingyue's walkie-talkie.

"Mingyue, these level 5 giant monsters are afraid of electricity. I'll go and remove the electric fence to stop them. You stay outside the base and deal with them carefully."

Gu Mingyue replied briefly with an "okay," and then contacted the water and lightning ability users in the base. Together with Xinghe, they tried their best to delay the time it took for those level 5 monsters to enter the core of the base.

Everyone answered in unison, and despite being covered in injuries, they tried their best to remain as calm as their boss.

The battle was fierce at the south gate of the Bright Moon Base, while monsters were invading from the north gate and other directions, though in smaller numbers than at the south gate.

The giant monsters, each ten meters tall, were forcefully pounding on the north gate and city wall of the Bright Moon Base.

The metal-type ability users at Mingyue Base, following Gu Mingyue's instructions, worked diligently to repair the city walls.

More than twenty metal-type ability users placed their palms together on the north city wall. Under their abilities, the broken concrete wall extended from the inside out and became a metal wall, with countless gold nuggets filling the gaps in the wall.

They could see the level 5 monster with half its head sticking out from the city wall as soon as they looked up.

Under the monster's enormous, jet-black eyes, many people were so frightened by a single glance that their legs trembled.

These enormous monsters were punching the newly formed metal walls of the Bright Moon Base, leaving huge dents in the half-meter-wide metal walls under their iron fists.

The metal-type ability users who had their hands braced against the city wall were dizzy and their hearing was almost completely lost due to the huge metallic impact. Their hands, which were in contact with the wall, were numb from the shock, and some of their arm and hand bones were almost shattered.

These superpowered individuals fought until late at night, when finally a few of the early level one or two superpowered individuals couldn't hold on any longer and gave up.

Without the metal-type ability users to repair the walls, the level 5 giant monster quickly broke through the city wall's defenses, smashed through the walls, and stormed in from the north.

Ordinary people, driving tanks and carrying rocket launchers, immediately set up their artillery to meet the attack.

These monsters that broke in immediately and cleverly hid near the tall buildings. Then, their car-sized hands easily grabbed the mutated animals on the ground that were tickling them and squeezed them tightly.

Those mutated animals that are strong to ordinary humans are like kittens and rats in the hands of the level 5 giant monsters. They are crushed instantly with a clap of its two hands.

Then, with two fingers, it easily picked up the human who was breathing fire at its feet and was about to put it in its mouth.

At this moment, the mutated animals that were training with the Bright Moon Base rushed to rescue their master.

A mutated golden monkey climbed up the wrinkles on the body of a level 5 giant monster, onto its shoulder, and threw stones at its terrifying black eyes.

The man held in the palm of the level-five giant monster had shattered ribs and was bleeding profusely from the corner of his mouth. Looking at the mutated golden monkey he had tamed, he was surprised to find it so loyal and felt a sense of relief.

Death is inevitable, but he fought fiercely to defend his home before he died, and he even got a small animal before he died. With such strong loyalty and deep friendship, he did not live in vain.

“Little monkey… I’m going first. You’re free now. You can either run away with me or continue to work for the bright moon…”

Before he could finish speaking, he was thrown into the abyss's maw by the level-five giant monster.

The monster chewed a few times, swallowing the bones, but it didn't like the human clothes, so it stuck its fingers into its mouth and rummaged around in them.

He flung out a clump of clothes mixed with blood and flesh and a small leather bag, which was filled with the mutated animals' favorite vegetables, fruits, rabbit meat, and chicken jerky.

The mutated golden monkey stared blankly for a moment when it saw the bananas and oranges that it loved to eat rolling out of the loosened leather pouch. Then, it glared angrily at the level 5 giant monster, jumped onto the giant monster's green head, and gripped one of its eye sockets tightly with its claws.

"Chirp! Chirp!" It was not even as big as the giant monster's head, but it still angrily fought back against the giant monster. With its efforts, it actually gouged out one of the giant monster's eyes.

But at the same time, the level 5 giant monster was also completely enraged. It slapped the body and face several times with its big hands, and finally grabbed the troublesome little thing from behind, crushed it and threw it to the ground. Its car-like feet completely covered the mutated golden monkey that could not move.

Other humans and small animals tried to drag it off the monster's feet, but were ultimately crushed to death by the monster.
