The black rain in the sky grew heavier and heavier.
Gu Mingyue frowned slightly. The small mole between her eyebrows felt faintly hot, and her head felt dizzy, as if something new was growing inside.
"Star River, come out!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Xinghe, dressed in a white uniform, quickly appeared and stood opposite her, his eyes showing slight worry.
"Boss, you don't look well."
"I'm fine. Go check if the 17th floor is safe for me." Gu Mingyue leaned against the wall, trying her best to stay awake.
“Boss, at a time like this, I should stay by your side.” Xinghe’s beautiful eyebrows furrowed slightly, and she disobeyed her order, which was rare for her.
"This is a sign that I'm about to awaken my superpowers. Don't worry, the most important thing is to protect the 17th floor, our base."
"Alright." Seeing that her master was adamant, Xinghe had no choice but to turn around and walk down from the attic.
"Wait, Xinghe," Gu Mingyue called out to him.
Xinghe quickly turned back, her conflicted expression softening into one of boundless tenderness.
In his heart, his master's safety was the most important thing, and he wanted to stay with her when she was weak.
"Here's a knife. If you find any pets or livestock with boils on their bodies that smell of rotting and putrefaction, remember to kill them."
Gu Mingyue's face was as white as paper, but she still didn't forget to give her instructions.
"Okay." Xinghe took the meteorite sword, said dryly, turned and left, his tall figure carrying a hint of indescribable loneliness.
He felt increasingly strange about himself. He shouldn't have these strange emotions. Xinghe looked out the window at the ink-like marks and began to wonder if it was these strange rains that made him different!
Upon reaching the 17th floor, just as Gu Mingyue had predicted, many of the pets were lying listlessly on the ground, looking dizzy.
Among the ten hamsters, one began to grow larger and larger. Some yellow pustules appeared on its nose, followed by several bulges of fur that grew larger and larger until the yellow pustules exceeded the yellowish-white fur.
Just seconds ago it looked cute, but now it's terrifying and disgusting, baring its fangs as if it's about to devour its own kind.
Xinghe didn't hesitate. He took out a large spoon from his spatial storage and scooped the mouse out of the plastic box.
As soon as it landed, the golden hamster with pustules let out a few impatient growls and charged toward the odorless but hateful humanoid creature that had stopped it from eating. It opened its mouth to bite the creature's foot.
Just before it bit down, Xinghe's meteorite knife fell straight down, splitting the monstrous golden bear in two.
A crystal the size of a grain of rice collided with the cutting tool, making a sound.
Zheng—
Xinghe had heard Gu Mingyue mention before that monsters and alien beasts have crystal cores in their brains, which are good things that can enhance the energy of superhumans. So, wearing gloves, he frowned and picked up the crystal core and put it into a transparent cup.
With a wave of his hand and a hint of disdain, he put the monster's corpse into the space's garbage bin, then started the robot vacuum cleaner to clean up the yellow monster bloodstains on the ground.
Seeing that the monster in 1701 had been dealt with, he continued to stride toward 1702, where rabbits, fish, and quails were kept.
He pushed open the door and saw that one of the monstrous rabbits had bitten off the neck of an ordinary rabbit.
Without the slightest hesitation, Xinghe took both rabbits out of the cage and killed them with a single slash.
Just as Xinghe was dealing with the monster inside the house, Gu Mingyue shook her head and barely managed to open the attic door.
Last time, hail shattered the tempered glass on the terrace that had been sealed off, and Gu Mingyue hadn't had time to replace it with a new one.
Black rain pelted the cement slab, splashing up countless black droplets.
A drop of rain fell on Gu Mingyue's fair hand, and a puff of white smoke immediately rose up. Her skin looked as if it had been burned by a drop of sulfuric acid, revealing its delicate pink texture, and then it slowly healed.
The pain instantly jolted Gu Mingyue awake from her drowsiness.
She finally decided to throw herself into the black rain and accept this test of life and death.
She couldn't bear the thought of being reborn as a mediocre level seven ability user.
It's all or nothing!
She wants to become stronger, the strongest of all!
With that in mind, she took off her clothes. Since she was already going into the black rain, she might as well expose most of her skin to it.
She didn't stop until she was only wearing her underwear.
Then I walked barefoot onto the terrace.
Every step she took was difficult, she was as stubborn as a fool, even though there was a high chance that doing so would turn her into a monster, even though she was in excruciating pain, as if someone had poured a bucket of sulfuric acid on her from head to toe.
She did it anyway.
A sizzling sound emanated from every part of her skin.
Gu Mingyue gritted her teeth, not uttering a single groan that betrayed her fear.
With her eyes closed, she could feel a cloud of light gathering in her mind, a cloud of light brighter and larger than the one in her previous life.
But she always felt it wasn't enough; her body hadn't reached the critical point.
There's definitely room for improvement!
With that in mind, she simply took out several cups, bowls, and basins from her space, anything that could hold liquid, until she covered the entire terrace floor.
If anyone were to glance at the attic where Gu Mingyue was from the 17th floor, they would surely scream in alarm.
Because they would see a 'monster' wearing underwear, with no good skin on its body but long, wavy hair, doing strange things.
Gu Mingyue now felt as if she had gone mad, or had become a monster.
She actually picked up those cups that had been catching the black rain and drank them down in one gulp, like a beer.
