Chapter 79 Eating Black Beetles

On Gu Mingyue's side, everything was harmonious and pleasant.

Elsewhere, sadness, fear, and despair filled the air.

Wang Jie and Li Min were relatively lucky. After Pei Sheng blew up the 16th floor, the steel frame didn't collapse, but it did create an invisible wall. A crack appeared in that wall, revealing a hidden safe house containing gold and silver treasures.

Wang Jie and the other two, along with the remaining people, were emaciated from the torture inflicted by the demon, and managed to squeeze inside.

They discovered that the humanoid monster couldn't get in, so the group sat in the jewel nest, initially quite happy.

Then a hollow rumbling sound came from their stomachs, and everyone fell into an eerie silence.

It wouldn't do to starve like this, so Wang Jie secretly slipped out while the monster was away and came back with a bunch of mutated black beetles.

He noticed that the monsters ate these black beetles when they couldn't find anything else to eat, so he brought them back.

"Ugh, you're actually making us eat bugs? How could you be so cruel?" The half-humans shook their heads in refusal.

“I won’t eat. You might as well let us die. That woman was kind enough to give us a quick death, but you brought us here to live like pigs and dogs. Are you a pervert?” The half-man was now convinced of Gu Mingyue’s way of doing things.

Li Min didn't find the insects disgusting; she tore off their heads and rear ends, squeezed out the white pus, and ate them.

He handed one to Wang Jie, saying, "It's not poisonous, you can have one too."

Wang Jie felt a surge of warmth upon seeing her action. He took the food and put it in his mouth, only to be met with an extremely unpleasant, fishy smell that nearly made him vomit.

Seeing this, Li Min pulled him aside and whispered to comfort him: "Wang Jie, I fell in love with you because of your kind-heartedness in helping others, but this is the end of the world. And even before the end of the world, good deeds without recognition would wear down people's enthusiasm."

"I'm really worried that if you keep it all bottled up for too long, you'll get sick. Let's just leave them alone, okay?"

Wang Jie looked at the group of pitiful half-humans behind him, picked her up and shook his head: "Now we have food and a safe place, let's not abandon them for now. Maybe the rescue team will be back in a few days!"

Li Min was speechless and slapped his hand away. "Fine, you're so kind. I think our relationship can change."

"What do you mean?" Upon hearing this, Wang Jie suddenly glared at her angrily, his eyes turning icy cold as if he had become a different person.

"I went into the cannibal's den for your sake."

"What? You're starting to look down on me, this reckless simp? Before the apocalypse, how did you become the top salesperson? Did I ever say a word about it? Did I ever look down on you even once?"

"Are you sick?" Li Min looked at him angrily. Her ordinary face looked slightly ugly because of her anger, and she was not beautiful at all.

Others' doubts about her work ability couldn't hurt her in the slightest, but the person beside her kept harboring such thoughts in their heart, making her feel as if she had been placed in an ice cellar, chilled to the bone.

Both of them have ordinary, average looks. Li Min is rich and has high emotional intelligence, while Wang Jie is kind and filial. She always thought that the two of them were soulmates who had abandoned their appearances, and that they were an ordinary but happy couple among billions of people.

This apocalypse completely changed her mind.

"Hahahaha, they've started arguing."

"Good for you! You deserve it! Die, all of you, and go to hell together!" The half-human figures behind the two men let out a sinister, hoarse laugh.

"Shut up! Laugh again and I'll eat you all!" Wang Jie shouted at the half-masts behind him, then his pupils trembled, his limbs stiffened, and he couldn't believe that these words came out of his mouth.

It seems Li Min was right; he went mad the day he was captured by the cannibal, or perhaps even earlier.

Hearing his roar, Li Min felt as if a bubble in her heart had been popped, and goosebumps rose all over her body.

...

The fact that the house was surrounded like an iron barrel did not deter the monster from continuing its search for food.

The monsters stared intently at the windows enclosed by steel plates, a new idea forming in their minds.

In no time, they gathered in one place, dozens of monsters jostling and crashing into several windows on the first floor.

They wanted nothing more than to find the human couple who had pinned them to the ground and forced them to their deaths, to torture and kill them, to suck their blood, and to devour every piece of flesh that contained energy.

The monsters wanted to kill Gu Mingyue, but Gu Mingyue also coveted their crystal cores.

Gu Mingyue, who is currently in the late stage of level two, urgently needs ten level three monster crystal cores to advance.

Gu Mingyue had absolutely no interest in the densely packed monsters crammed together like small mountains downstairs.

They are both inadequate in terms of energy levels and in training for life-or-death situations.

"Little wolves, little turtles, little snakes, little thorns, little flowers, it's your turn to go. If you don't beat them so badly they can't find their way home, you won't get dinner tonight." Gu Mingyue then handed each of the more than forty pets, big and small, a crystal core.

I also visited the black bear once. After the black bear crawled into the first floor, it was too big to leave the room and could only stay there.

At first, the monsters grabbed me and gnawed away a lot of my flesh. Later, after the windows were sealed with steel plates, my injuries gradually healed.

Gu Mingyue once again envied its healing ability and handed it a few level-two crystal cores to absorb and replenish its strength.

At the same time, Gu Mingyue saw several furry animal cubs crawling out from under the black bear's rear end. She didn't chase them away, but gave the black bear a few pieces of raw beef and left.

Everything is arranged.

Gu Mingyue led Xinghe to the terrace on the 17th floor and looked up to face the level three monster in the sky.

The level 3 monsters gathered around after smelling the scent, and one of them was standing on the terrace waiting for her.

Upon seeing Gu Mingyue emerge, it instantly resembled a bat, opening its sharp claws hidden beneath its wing membranes and lunging at her.
