Chapter 6: Fanning the flames

"Where have you been running off to? You have no respect for your elders. Today is the day your sister comes home, and you don't even know to wait for her at home!"

Old Man Xu scolded him, but Xu Yixing was secretly happy in his heart. It turned out that my father loves me the most!

"Knowing that my sister would be coming home today, I went to Nanshi to find a few good bridles, waiting to go to the horse farm with my sister this afternoon." Xu Yiwen held up the big bag in his hand and waved it in front of the two elders. Sure enough, his father didn't say anything.

Gu started playing the role of a good wife again: "Wen'er is really thoughtful, Master, you are wrong to blame him. However... early this morning, someone from the Sun Mansion came to report that our eldest daughter is not feeling well and therefore cannot return."

"What?" Old Man Xu was furious. He slammed the table, knocking the water out of the teacup. "Xu Qian! Prepare the horses. I'm going to the Sun Mansion to take a look! Oh, and bring a few doctors with you!"

Gu and Xu Yixing stepped forward at the same time. Gu held Old Man Xu down on his seat, while Xu Yixing quickly spoke back.

"Dad, I know you're worried. I went to the Sun Mansion to visit my sister this morning for you and just came back."

Old Man Xu was feeling uncomfortable at first, but when he heard him say that, he was stunned for a moment, as if he had not expected that his little daughter had actually been there before him.

"You've been there? How's your sister? What's wrong with her? Is it serious?"

"Sister is fine, she just got a sore throat from the hot weather. The court doctor has left a prescription for Siwen, and sister said she's fine, so I came back."

"Humph, the Sun Mansion is so big, can't it even afford ice? I'm going to ask him how he dared to let my precious daughter suffer like this!"

Xu Yixing groaned inwardly, "If you knew that your precious daughter had been in agony all night, you would be so angry that you would die."

"Don't worry, Dad. I've already told Aunt Bai. It's okay." Humph, this is my trump card. No matter how angry you are, I guarantee you'll calm down when you hear the three words "Aunt Bai".

As expected, Father Xu was defeated, curled up in his chair like a deflated little black bear. "Oh... then Aunt Bai will take care of it. I won't go."

Hehe, no matter how big a mistake he made since he was a child, as long as Nanny Bai started to persuade him, Dad would immediately give in. It really works!

Seeing her master lose his temper, Gu secretly scoffed. He was clearly a feared general, yet he was afraid of an old servant. "Master, calm down. Xing'er is getting married anyway. How can you be so intrusive in front of a young couple every day?"

Xu Yixing scratched his head, thinking that what Gu said might not touch his father's heart. Even if a daughter gets married, does that mean she is no longer a daughter?

She continued, "Also, my sister asked me to tell you that she took Si Wu in as her maid."

"Ah?" Now the rest of the people in the room were all in shock. Just as Xu Yixing had expected, there was a teasing look in Gu's eyes, and she didn't know how to laugh; Xu Yiwen was left with only shock and disbelief on his face; Old Man Xu half tilted his head, as if he suspected that he had heard it wrongly.

"I knew that my grandson You, that little bastard, was no good!" With a clang, the small stool next to Old Man Xu suffered the consequences and was kicked to pieces by him.

"Xu Qian! Take your men and weapons and go!"

Old Man Xu didn't even have time to change into his court robes. He slammed the door and went out with his men to pick a fight. He didn't even hear Gu, who was dragging behind him and calling out to come back.

"I'm going too." Xu Yiwen followed Old Man Xu's footsteps and hurried out the door.

"Come back! You guys!" Gu watched as she couldn't stop this one or that one, and she was so angry that she could only let Nanny Gu rub her chest to help her breathe.

Xu Yixing chuckled. "Go ahead, though. Visiting a patient isn't a good excuse for a fight, but my daughter has been wronged by her son-in-law. Having to take in a maid right after she got married, I'd be doing a disservice to Old Man Gu's reputation as a loving daughter if I didn't give her a beating. I want to see if that imposter can get past my father!"

Seeing that both masters had left, Nanny Gu took out her anger on Xu Yixing: "Second Miss is really something! She didn't even report this matter to Madam in advance. Now that things have gotten out of hand, if anything happens to the Master or the Young Master, can Second Miss bear the responsibility?"

Huh? Wait, old hag!

"Mother, I really wanted to talk to you about this in private, but I didn't expect that my father and brother were here when I came in. I couldn't help but tell you. What if my father heard about this from someone else? Wouldn't he be even more angry? Please understand."

Gu had recovered now and naturally understood what he meant. She had sent her second daughter to visit her eldest daughter. If she didn't tell the truth, the master might think she had asked her to conceal the truth, and he would vent his anger on her, which would be bad.

So she angrily said to Nanny Gu: "Yan'er is right. You know the master's temper. No matter who said it, he would probably go to the Sun Mansion and make a scene. Why do you blame her?"

Nanny Gu was embarrassed, but she also knew that she had been reckless. She gave Xu Yi a very sloppy bow and said, "Don't mind me, Second Miss. I was just too anxious."

Xu Yixing bowed his head in return, hiding his smile.

"Okay, Xiaoyan, you've worked hard, go back first."

"Okay, mother, but what about Dad and my brother?"

"It's okay. I don't think it will cause any big trouble. It's none of your business."

Xu Yixing walked out of the door with a smile, and almost went back to his original yard on the way. Fortunately, he reacted in time and resisted his inertia and walked into Xu Yiyan's house.

After entering the door, only Siqin followed her in, and she was no longer like she was outside.

"Oh my dear young lady! I was so scared! Who the hell is that old woman Gu? How shameless of her to actually accuse you! Bah! But the master and the young master are gone like this, is it really okay?"

"No." No way. Dad would never let it go unless he beat up his grandson You and then slapped Si Wu until he was swollen.

"Help me change into some casual clothes. This outfit is uncomfortable for me."

Siqin obeyed and deftly changed her into a honey-colored, half-worn skirt. Only then did Xu Yixing feel a little more comfortable. He lay down on the bed and let Siwen apply the medicine to him again. He was in a good mood today. After such a commotion, it would take several days to calm down. He should also think about what to do next.

After Siqin applied the medicine, she suddenly moved closer to him, making Xu Yixing feel uncomfortable again. "Miss, do you have to wait until the master comes back today to hand over that thing?"

"Hmm?" Xu Yixing's heart tightened. What was this little sister going to do? What was it? Why was she giving it to Dad? She sat up on the bed, trying to read some information from Si Wen's face.

"Bring the things here first, and I'll see if there's anything wrong."
