Chapter 6 Slapping the Green Tea Sister
Lord Bo Gong, Shen Qiushan, led his men and rushed in.
Shen Shu's older sister, Shen Xiao, followed behind her.
Because the Ghost Festival was approaching, the Bogong Mansion needed to arrange the sacrificial rites in advance, so they took Shen Xiao and Shen Lian to the ancestral temple to make preparations.
Upon hearing the urgent message from Zhao's mother, Shen Qiushan asked Shen Lian to continue the ceremony in his place, while he returned with Shen Xiao first.
When Zhao's mother went to invite Shen Qiushan, she had already told him a story that was completely distorted and untrue.
They blamed all the mistakes on Shen Shu, describing her as nothing short of a demon.
Wen Lanting, on the other hand, was so gentle and virtuous.
He loved his daughter dearly, and not only did he confess his guilt on Shen Shu's behalf, he also took the punishment for her.
Shen Shu didn't express her gratitude to Wen Lanting, which was fine.
He even spoke nonsense in front of the princess, which angered her and caused the Earl's Mansion to lose face.
Although Shen Qiushan's anger was rising, he still had some doubts, thinking that a girl who grew up in the countryside wouldn't be so bold.
But when they were almost at the mansion...
From a distance, Shen Qiushan watched as several old women carried Shen Shu in a sedan chair, which was then carried by eight men. They swaggered in through the main gate.
Only when he saw the maid from the princess's mansion pulling Wen Lanting to distribute porridge did he finally believe it completely.
So he angrily said the moment he saw Shen Shu.
"Do you even realize how utterly disgraceful you've become to the Earl's Mansion?!"
Oh? You're back so soon?
Shen Shu smiled but didn't say anything. What was this all about?
Compared to her tragic death in her previous life, it's nothing at all.
It seems they aren't entirely inhuman; they do feel pain when hit by the paddle.
"You unfilial daughter, do you even respect me as your father anymore? I'm speaking to you, and you're still laughing!"
Seeing Shen Shu's mocking expression, Shen Qiushan became even angrier.
“Your mother personally went to the countryside to pick you up, and you are still so ungrateful, rude to your mother.”
"You spoke so arrogantly in front of the princess that your mother had no choice but to give porridge to the beggars outside."
“You were born with heterochromia, which is so strange and ominous. I didn’t kill you and even let you grow up in the countryside. You should be grateful day and night.”
"Now that we've brought you back, you should be even more respectful and humble, serving your elders well. But what have you done? Did we bring you back so you could be treated like royalty?"
Shen Shu looked up at Shen Qiushan and burst out laughing.
Has she never been respectful and humble?
When she first returned to the manor in her previous life, she didn't know any of the rules and didn't want to leave a bad impression on Shen Qiushan, so she followed the example of the servants around her and performed an awkward bow to Shen Qiushan.
But Shen Qiushan treated Shen Shu like she was invisible, and only let her get up after an incense stick's time had passed.
Ignoring her legs, which were already numb from squatting, he said that Shen Shu had no manners.
Growing up in the countryside, Jing learned some of the manners of a servant.
Shen Shu gritted her teeth, but still held onto hope.
Later, upon learning that Shen Qiushan had always suffered from poor sleep, he specially made a fragrant medicine jar using a secret recipe for improving sleep taught to her by the village headman, and presented it to Shen Qiushan.
But he threw it into the lotus pond without even looking at it.
I told him not to bring him such rustic things anymore. He should spend his time learning proper manners instead.
Her good father never cared about her even a little bit.
All he cared about was her face, which was exactly the same as Shen Xiao's, and whether it could pave a path to prosperity for the Bo Gong family.
Seeing that Shen Shu remained silent, Shen Xiao thought she had fooled her. "Sister, although this is our first meeting, I am the older sister and I have to say something."
"This is outrageous! How can you show such disrespect to your father and mother?"
"You should quickly apologize to your father and bring your mother back to the mansion. You should personally go and distribute porridge to your mother. I can then plead for you."
“If you don’t listen to advice and continue to act recklessly, then you are forcing your father to use family discipline.”
Shen Xiao seemed to be trying to calm Shen Shu down, but in reality, her words were nothing short of stirring up trouble.
Shen Shu glanced at Shen Xiao indifferently and walked up to Shen Qiushan.
"I have to say, you guys are really good at acting. One of you is playing the loving mother, and the other is playing the strict father."
She moved closer to Shen Xiao, smiling at her, "Sister is playing the role of a green tea bitch."
"You've got it right, it's not that I insisted on coming back, it's that you begged me to come back."
"If you think I'm causing you trouble, just send me back. Do you think the Uncle's Mansion is some kind of desirable place that everyone would flock to?"
Shen Xiao was stunned. This was the first time in her life she had heard such harsh words, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
"Why did my sister say such demeaning things to me..."
"I was just trying to be helpful and plead for you. Why did you have to speak so harshly and give your whole family such a cold shoulder? Could it be that you harbor resentment towards the Uncle's Mansion and are deliberately seeking revenge?"
"If you want revenge, then come at me alone. But you can't treat Father and Mother like this..."
Shen Xiao covered her face with a handkerchief and wiped away her tears. Her words were righteous and awe-inspiring.
Anyone who didn't know better would really think Shen Shucai was a heinous criminal.
Unable to bear it any longer, Shen Shu slapped him hard, sending him flying several meters away.
"Since my sister is willing to take on the burden for Father and Mother, then I won't stand on ceremony!"
Shen Xiao was a pampered young lady raised in seclusion, unlike Shen Shu who had grown up doing manual labor and was strong and healthy. She didn't expect Shen Shu to hit her, and caught off guard, she was slapped unconscious.
Shen Qiushan was stunned and quickly had someone help Shen Xiao up.
His face was terribly gloomy; this was outrageous! Just who does Shen Shu respect?
This patriarch isn't dead yet! He dares to hit someone right in front of him; what if he's not here today?! Would he kill someone?!
It seems that Zhao's mother was absolutely right.
His second daughter not only disrespected her superiors, but was also incredibly audacious!
We really need to teach her some manners!
"Looks like you've really been spoiled rotten! Guards! Bring out the family discipline!"
Shen Shu sneered and calmly took a few steps back.
"Father doesn't know? The Princess already knows that the Duke's mansion is going to hold a banquet to announce my return to the mansion to everyone."
"I know you've abandoned me in the countryside for over a decade. If I'm beaten on my first day, and the injuries are revealed at the banquet, wouldn't that confirm the fact that the Uncle's family mistreats its children?"
“It’s a small matter if my father beats me, but if he displeases the princess and complains about you to the emperor, you’ll be in deep trouble.”
“I’m used to living in the countryside, and I don’t care about power or wealth. Doesn’t Father care either?”
What?
Shen Qiushan was taken aback.
At this moment, a perceptive servant whispered to Shen Qiushan the conversation between Shen Shu and the princess outside the mansion gate.
Shen Qiushan's face flushed red and then turned pale after hearing this.
We really can't fight them.
Shen Qiushan glared at Shen Shu with hatred.
It's possible that the princess has already told the Duke of Qing about the banquet.
If Shen Shu is really beaten, and then this girl talks nonsense again, and the princess finds out her weakness, the princess will really go to the emperor to file a complaint.
"All of you, step back!"
Shen Qiushan took a deep breath and suppressed his anger.
"You've just arrived in the capital, so we'll consider today's events as a sign of your ignorance. However, you disrespected your elders and even hit your eldest sister, so you must be punished. Go to the ancestral hall and reflect on your actions!"
He simply couldn't understand how such a restless, mischievous girl could win the princess's favor!
A group of strong and powerful guards stepped forward and, without allowing Shen Shu to escape, dragged her into the ancestral hall.
