Chapter 192 Get out of Beijing forever!

Chapter 192 Get out of Beijing forever!

"Thank you, Pei Zhi." Ye Wanning looked at him with a bright smile. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to expose Qin Yue so easily."

"Why are you being so polite with me?" Pei Zhi said with a smile. "Seeing you happy makes me feel at ease."

The two walked side by side on the stone path of the palace, the warm sunlight shining on them, making them feel exceptionally comfortable.

Ye Wanning's steps became much lighter.

But she didn't expect that trouble would come again as soon as she returned to the Pei residence. Li Yanran, a noble lady from the capital, led a group of maids and blocked the entrance to the villa. She was dressed in a gorgeous pink dress, with an arrogant smile on her face and her eyes full of jealousy.

"Ye Wanning, you're really something. You've made such a big commotion as soon as you got back, even Imperial Physician Qin was exiled by the Emperor." Li Yanran said sarcastically.

"But don't get too cocky. You're just a commoner female doctor. Even if you win the Emperor's favor, so what? You're not good enough for Lord Pei!"

"Miss Li, I have no grudge against you, why are you targeting me?" Ye Wanning asked, puzzled.

"No grudge?" Li Yanran sneered. "You stole my seat, and you dare to ask why?"

"Lord Pei has always been my beloved, but you used underhanded methods to bewitch him and the Emperor!"

The maid behind her chimed in, "That's right! Ye Wanning, you'd better be smart and leave Lord Pei quickly, go back to Jiangnan, and stop making a fool of yourself in the capital!"

Ye Wanning felt helpless. She only wanted to seek justice, but it had caused so much trouble.

"Miss Li, matters of the heart cannot be forced," Ye Wanning said calmly. "Pei Zhi and I are a couple betrothed by the Emperor; it's no one else's place to interfere. If you intend to cause trouble here, I advise you to leave now!"

"Nonsense?" Li Yanran said angrily, "I think you won't shed tears until you see the coffin! Didn't you say your medical skills were superb?"

"Do you dare to have a match with me? If you lose, you'll divorce Lord Pei and be banished from the capital forever!"

Ye Wanning found it amusing to look at her; how could this pampered young lady possibly compare to her medical skills?

"Okay, I promise you." Ye Wanning's tone was firm. "What do you want to compete in?"

Li Yanran's eyes lit up: "Let's compare medical skills! I have a patient here who has been treated by the imperial physicians for a long time without getting better. If you cure her, I'll be convinced; if you can't, then do as I say!"

As she spoke, she ordered someone to bring in an old woman. The old woman lay on a stretcher, her face pale and her breath faint.

"This is my grandmother. She has had wrist pain for several years. She has been treated by the imperial physicians countless times, but her condition has not improved and has even worsened with each treatment."

Li Yanran said, "If you cure her wrist pain, I will acknowledge your excellent medical skills and will no longer cause you trouble."

Ye Wanning walked to the stretcher, bent down and carefully examined the patient. She found that the patient had blocked meridians and stagnant blood and qi, which had been aggravated by years of hard work.

“I can cure this illness,” Ye Wanning said. “However, it will require acupuncture, which may be painful. Please bear with it, Madam.”

The old woman nodded: "Madam Ye, as long as I can get better, I'll endure any pain!"

Ye Wanning took out silver needles, her fingers flying, and the needles were inserted into the old woman's wrist acupoints with a "swish". Her movements were gentle and skillful, and her eyes were full of focus.

Everyone held their breath, watching her every move. Li Yanran was both nervous and conflicted, wanting Ye Wanning to lose, yet also hoping her grandmother would recover.

After a moment, Ye Wanning removed the silver needles: "Madam, try moving your wrist."

The old woman hesitated for a moment, then raised her wrist and moved it gently. Her wrist, which had been stiff and painful, was now able to move, and the pain was much less!

"I can move it! I really can move it!" The old woman cried with joy. "Madam Ye, you are a miracle doctor! My wrist doesn't hurt anymore!"

Li Yanran's face turned deathly pale instantly; she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She hadn't expected Ye Wanning to actually possess such abilities.

Pei Zhi's voice came: "My wife is naturally unparalleled in the world." He walked over with a smile, naturally putting his arm around Ye Wanning's shoulder, his eyes full of pride and doting.

"Miss Li, you have to accept the consequences of your bet. From now on, please don't make things difficult for Wan Ning anymore."

Ye Wanning's heart skipped a beat, her body stiffened slightly, and her cheeks flushed, but she didn't pull away from his hand.

This was the first time he had hugged her in front of so many people, and he felt a sweet warmth in his heart.

Seeing the two being so intimate, Li Yanran was furious, but there was nothing she could do.

"I...I understand." She gritted her teeth, turned, and walked away. "I won't let this go!"

Watching Li Yanran walk away in a disheveled state, Ye Wanning breathed a sigh of relief. Turning her head, she saw Pei Zhi still had his arm around her shoulder, and her face turned even redder. She gently pulled away, saying, "Alright, everyone's gone."

Pei Zhi smiled and let go, his eyes gentle: "You were really amazing just now, you cured the old lady's illness in one go."

"It's just a minor illness," Ye Wanning said, lowering her head to hide her embarrassment.

Spring arrived abruptly in Beijing; the crabapple blossoms on the street corner were in full bloom, their pink and white petals falling onto the bluestone path.

Ye Wanning came out of the West City Herbal Medicine Shop, clutching the checked list of herbs, wanting to return to her villa as soon as possible to finalize the promotion plan for "Qing Nang Mi Yao".

As she passed by the "Qingfeng Teahouse," she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. Pei Zhi was sitting by the window, dressed in a moon-white brocade robe, his posture upright.

Sitting opposite him was a woman wearing a long dress embroidered with gold from the Western Regions. She had gentle features and was the childhood sweetheart Shen Qingyuan, whom Pei Zhi had mentioned before, who had been sent on a mission to the Western Regions.

The two were quite close together when Shen Qingyuan smiled and handed him a brocade box. Pei Zhi opened it, looked at it, nodded slightly, smiled faintly, and looked at it with a congenial expression.

Ye Wanning's heart sank suddenly, then tightened, a sharp, piercing pain shooting through her. Images of her stepmother scheming against her in her past life, and Jiang Ruoyan clinging to Pei Zhi's arm, instantly overlapped in her mind, making it almost impossible for her to breathe.

She knew that Pei Zhi had said they were "just friends," but seeing the two of them laughing and talking in person, her deep-seated unease still surged up like a tide.

She didn't want to see that glaring scene anymore, so she clutched the list and turned to leave, her steps so hurried that she didn't notice the crabapple petals falling on her shoulder.

"Wan Ning!" A familiar voice came from behind, urgent.

Ye Wanning didn't stop; instead, she walked even faster. Pei Zhi immediately chased after her, still clutching the brocade box in his hand, and grabbed her wrist in a few steps.

His palms were warm, but his grip was firm, making her wrist ache: "Why are you running? What do you mean by leaving as soon as you see me?"

Ye Wanning tried to break free, her tone as cold as ice: "Lord Pei is having a gathering with his friends, so I shouldn't disturb him. I should leave."

"Friends?" Pei Zhi raised an eyebrow, a hint of jealousy flashing in his eyes. "You think Qingyuan and I are more than just friends?"

"I didn't think that way!" Ye Wanning turned her face away. "Lord Pei's personal relationships have nothing to do with me."

"None of your business?" Pei Zhi's voice suddenly rose, and he tightened his grip on her wrist.

"Ye Wanning, put your hand on your heart and tell me, when you turned around and left just now, weren't you jealous? Weren't you worried about me?"

Ye Wanning's heart skipped a beat. Her secret had been exposed, and her cheeks burned, but she stubbornly replied, "Lord Pei is joking. I have important matters to attend to and don't have time to waste."

"Important matter?" Pei Zhi sneered, reaching out to press her shoulder, forcing her to turn around and look at him.

"What could be more important than explaining things clearly?"
