Chapter 30 His Highness the Crown Prince is Saved
"I'm your sister's friend," Ye Wanning said. "Your sister has been threatened by the Third Prince and is in great danger. We need you to persuade her to tell the truth and rescue her!"
"Really? You can save my sister?" the little boy asked, his eyes lighting up.
"Yes," Ye Wanning nodded, "but we need your help. Would you like to come with us?"
"I'm willing! I'm willing! I'll do anything to save my sister!" The little boy nodded without hesitation.
Ye Wanning felt a warmth in her heart and said to the two guards, "Let's go quickly!"
The group led the little boy outside, and just as they reached the door, they suddenly heard sounds of fighting and shouting outside.
"Oh no, Lord Pei has been discovered!" A guard's expression changed.
Ye Wanning's heart skipped a beat: "Let's go help!"
The group rushed out of the small building and saw Pei Zhi fighting with more than a dozen guards. Pei Zhi was highly skilled in martial arts, but he was outnumbered and gradually began to struggle.
"Lord Pei!" Ye Wanning shouted.
Pei Zhi's eyes lit up when he saw them: "You guys go quickly! Don't worry about me!"
"How can we abandon you!" Ye Wanning said. "You two take the little boy and go through the back door. I'll go help Lord Pei!"
The two guards hesitated for a moment: "Second Miss, this is too dangerous!"
"Shut up, get out of here!" Ye Wanning pushed the little boy towards them, took out the dagger Ye Chengjing had given her from her sleeve, and rushed forward.
Although she hadn't learned any martial arts, she had learned some self-defense skills in her previous life in the brothels. Ye Wanning knew her abilities wouldn't be of much help, but she could try to distract the guards as much as possible. She saw a guard slash at Pei Zhi's back with a knife, so she rushed forward and stabbed the guard's arm repeatedly with her dagger.
"Ah!" the guard screamed, dropping his knife to the ground. Pei Zhi seized the opportunity, turning around and kicking the guard to the ground.
"Why haven't you left yet?" Pei Zhi asked Ye Wanning, both angry and anxious.
"I can't leave you alone!" Ye Wanning said.
Just then, more guards arrived at the sound and surrounded them.
"Oh no, we're surrounded!" Ye Wanning's expression changed.
Pei Zhi frowned. "Looks like we're not leaving today. Don't worry, I'll find a way to let you go." As he spoke, he shielded Ye Wanning, gripping his sword tightly. "You think you can touch me? Not a chance!"
The guards pressed closer, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense. Ye Wanning knew this couldn't go on. She looked around and saw a warehouse nearby, its door ajar.
"Lord Pei, come with me!" Ye Wanning grabbed Pei Zhi's hand and ran towards the warehouse. The two rushed into the warehouse, and Pei Zhi slammed the door shut behind him, using a thick wooden stick to prop it open.
The warehouse was filthy and smelly, with messy things scattered all over the floor, and a musty smell of grain that had been sitting there for who knows how long.
“We’re safe now, but this isn’t a long-term solution,” Pei Zhi said, panting heavily.
Ye Wanning nodded and looked around. Suddenly, she noticed a ventilation opening in the corner of the warehouse; it looked like someone could easily escape through it.
“Lord Pei, look over there!” Ye Wanning pointed to the ventilation opening.
Pei Zhi's eyes lit up: "Great! We can get out of there!" He ran over quickly, and with a strong pull, the fence broke, revealing a dark hole underneath.
"You go out first," Pei Zhi said to Ye Wanning.
"You go out first!" Ye Wanning said. "Your martial arts skills are high, you can cover me after you go out."
Pei Zhi knew this wasn't the time to refuse, so he nodded and said, "Okay, I'll wait for you outside after I go out. Be careful." After he finished speaking, he went into the ventilation duct.
Ye Wanning watched his figure disappear into the darkness before she felt a little more at ease. Just as she was about to squeeze into the ventilation shaft, she suddenly heard a loud banging on the warehouse door, which was about to be broken open. Ye Wanning panicked and squeezed into the ventilation shaft as well.
The ventilation shaft was extremely narrow, requiring her to crawl. It was pitch black inside, filled with dust and cobwebs. Ye Wanning could only move forward by feel, her knees and elbows aching from the friction. After crawling for about half an hour, she finally spotted light ahead. Overjoyed, she quickened her pace.
She crawled out of the ventilation shaft and found herself outside the manor's walls, where Pei Zhi was anxiously waiting.
"You're finally out!" Pei Zhi breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her and quickly ran over to help her up.
Ye Wanning was so exhausted that her body felt like it was falling apart, and she collapsed on the ground, panting heavily.
"Let's go quickly, it's not safe here!" Pei Zhi said.
Ye Wanning nodded, enduring the pain, slowly stood up, and followed Pei Zhi into the woods.
About an hour later, the two returned to the place where the carriage was hidden. They saw two guards and a little boy waiting for them there, and Ye Wanning finally felt relieved.
"Let's hurry back to the capital!" Pei Zhi said.
The group boarded the carriage and sped off towards the capital.
Sitting in the carriage, Ye Wanning leaned against the carriage wall, her whole body aching. But she was very excited because they had rescued Xiao Cui's younger brother, and the Crown Prince was saved.
"Thank you so much this time!" Sitting in the carriage, Ye Wanning looked at Pei Zhi and said earnestly, "If it weren't for you, we would never have succeeded!"
Pei Zhi smiled and said, "We're allies, it's only right!" He paused, then added, "You were very brave today!"
Ye Wanning blushed slightly and lowered her head: "I just did what I was supposed to do!"
The carriage sped along in the quiet night, quickly disappearing into the darkness.
By the time they returned to the capital, it was already dawn. Pei Zhi escorted Ye Wanning back to the gate of the Minister's residence, gave her a few more instructions, and then left with the little boy and the guards.
Ye Wanning dragged her tired body into the Minister's residence. As soon as she entered the courtyard, she saw Ye Chengjing pacing anxiously in the courtyard.
"Ningning! You're back!" Ye Chengjing's eyes lit up when he saw her, and he rushed over. "Are you alright? I was so worried!"
Ye Wanning waved her hand: "It's alright, big brother. We've rescued little Cui, so His Highness the Crown Prince is saved."
Ye Chengjing's face lit up with surprise: "That's great, that's great! Quick, let's go tell Father!"
The three siblings entered the study, where Minister Ye was pacing anxiously. Upon seeing them, he was overcome with emotion and tears welled up in his eyes: "Ningning, are you alright? Are you alright?"
Ye Wanning told them everything that had happened at Yuquan Mountain, and the two of them listened with trepidation.
"That was so dangerous!" Minister Ye shook his head, still shaken with fear. "You're not allowed to do anything so dangerous again!"
“Father, I understand. Now that we have Xiao Cui’s younger brother, we can persuade Xiao Cui to tell the truth,” Ye Wanning said.
