Professor Wen relaxed when he saw the egg tea.
"Indeed, drink it while it's hot. What did the doctor say about your health?"
Professor Wen handed a bowl to Qin Nian and asked her a question.
"The doctor said I was in good health and there was no problem. After blood was drawn and tests were done, my mother-in-law was still worried and took me to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor to take my pulse."
"That's good."
"Shall I give you two more days off?"
Dean Hu considered it for a moment.
Qin Nian quickly shook her head: "No need, it's good to be busy. While I'm in good health now, I might be able to get all the data done before the baby is born."
"You must not force yourself."
Professor Wen added a sentence, and Qin Nian nodded.
"I came in a hurry this time and didn't bring anything for your mother-in-law. Your current condition is not suitable for you to go out and walk around. I will come to see you again tomorrow."
Dean Hu and his wife arrived in a hurry, but Yang Yufen insisted on giving them a basket of vegetables when they left.
On the road
"I think Grandma Niannian is a nice person."
Dean Hu spoke.
"Okay, let's keep an eye on it."
Dean Wen looked at the vegetable basket in his hand.
This was the first time Qin Nian had taken a hard line.
"Mom, keep this money. I'll give you a portion of my monthly salary for household expenses. I'm afraid the military allowance won't last much longer."
Qin Nian had already prepared for the worst. If her husband really had an accident, she would definitely not touch the compensation money, and she would also take on the responsibility of supporting her mother-in-law.
"Okay, don't overthink it. That kid has always been mischievous. Even when he was sickly, he still caused all sorts of trouble. Nothing will happen to him."
Yang Yufen repeated herself and accepted the money.
The next day, Professor Wen came by himself, bringing not only a can of malted milk powder and a can of milk powder, but also a laying hen.
"That's too much money."
Yang Yufen looked at the bag of things, which included canned goods.
“Niannian is pregnant and inevitably has a sweet tooth. These are nutritious. This malted milk powder is suitable for people our age, and this milk powder is for Niannian to nourish her during pregnancy.”
Upon hearing this, Yang Yufen no longer refused. Her daughter-in-law did indeed need to take good care of her health. Later, when her chickens were fully grown, she would slaughter them and send two back to her family for the New Year.
Yang Yufen considered her options and accepted the gifts.
Professor Wen had work to do and left without even staying for a meal.
Another laying hen! That's more than enough for my daughter-in-law to eat. Chickens lay fewer eggs in winter, even in a greenhouse.
Yang Yufen went to return the tricycle, and Aunt Wang brought out some steamed sweet potatoes for Yang Yufen to eat together.
"Don't worry too much. Children and grandchildren have their own blessings. My son also disappeared before, but we found him and he's doing well now."
Clearly, Aunt Wang knew about it too.
“I’m fine. I’m more worried about Niannian’s health than my son.”
Yang Yufen spoke the truth, took the sweet potato and started eating, and suddenly her eyes lit up.
"These sweet potatoes are really sweet. They would taste even better roasted than steamed."
"It's sweet, but a bit watery. My son has planted several acres of land, and we can't eat too much of this stuff, so we've put it all in the cellar. I don't know what to do with it."
“Give it to me! I mean, I’ll buy it. My son’s fate is unknown. I can’t rely on Niannian to support the family alone. I’m still young and strong and can do the work. I’m just idle at home anyway. I can finish those things in no time.”
Yang Yufen was somewhat excited. Unfortunately, Political Commissar Zhao couldn't hear her; when they asked for the allowance, he had said he was too old to work anymore.
