"That's right, it's not difficult at all. It's easier to learn than the Type 38. I'll teach you when you come back."
The two old friends were talking when they arrived at the military hospital.
"The patient's condition is stable, and he can be transferred to another hospital in seven days."
When Zhou Ang made his rounds, he saw that Yang Yufen and the other person had arrived, so he lingered a little longer.
"That's good, that's good. It's closer to the Third Hospital; it's only a few minutes' walk away."
Yang Yufen was happy for Guixiang, because it saved her both trouble and money.
The house outside the family compound is close to the Third Hospital.
"Auntie, I'm going to get busy."
After Zhou Ang finished speaking, he said goodbye and left.
Gui Xiang was fine when serving her husband meals; he was very cooperative. But when she saw her son, Er Shun, who only had the mental capacity of a seven or eight-year-old and was so badly injured, he stared at his mother, Gui Xiang, with teary eyes. Gui Xiang couldn't bear it at all.
She shed countless tears while carrying the child on her back, and managed to coax him to sleep with sugared porridge before reluctantly leaving.
"Guixiang, I've been thinking about this all night. To make it easier to take care of Ershun and his son, let's make steamed buns for breakfast and sell them right at the hospital entrance. We can ask the nurses to call out if they need anything, so it'll be convenient to keep an eye on them at any time."
People need care to eat, drink, and relieve themselves while lying down, especially during the day, and it's not easy to sleep at night either.
Her house is nice because it faces the street, but waiting for customers won't solve Guixiang's current problems. It's more practical to actively seek out customers.
She used to have a stall outside the Third Hospital, and she knew people there. She wasn't trying to steal other people's business; she was just trying to earn enough to survive.
“I’ll listen to you. We’ve been best friends for decades, growing up together since we were little. You’re the most decisive one.”
Gui Xiang felt like she had found a pillar of support when she followed Yang Yufen, and went wherever Yang Yufen took her.
Seeing that she had bought a lot of things, Gui Xiang silently wrote down the bill in her mind.
"We won't make too many fancy ones. We'll make meat buns, red date paste buns, and vegetarian buns. We'll make two kinds of vegetarian buns: one with cabbage and one with chives. I have a patch of chives there. I'll dig some up and plant them in the yard. They'll grow in a month or two."
"Okay, but this meat requires meat coupons, I..."
Gui Xiang tugged at her clothes; she was even wearing Yu Fen's clothes now, so how could she possibly have any hostages?
“I have some. I’ve saved quite a bit. I raised chickens, and I have enough eggs to eat, so I haven’t used meat coupons much. I only use them around the New Year. You sent me cotton and red dates before. I still have plenty of dates. Dried dates are sweet by themselves, so I don’t need to add much sugar.”
"Thank goodness you're here."
Back at the hospital, I went straight to the cafeteria to buy food. I'd already spent a lot of money, and going back and forth was tiring.
Back in the yard, the two began washing and cleaning.
"Soak these red dates first. We won't have time to make the meat yet. We'll make eggs. We'll go grab the meat tomorrow morning and cook a pot of millet porridge. The weather's getting warmer, so we can take it over without worrying about it getting cold."
How much dough?
Gui Xiang hesitated, holding the flour bag.
"Let's make two hundred together. Even if they don't sell, we can still eat them. If we make too few, and they sell well, we won't be able to keep up with making fresh buns."
Yang Yufen pondered for a moment and then gave a quantity.
"Alright, it's getting late. Why don't you go back first? Don't you still have to take care of the two children?"
Gui Xiang estimated the time; she knew how to knead dough and all that.
“We really have to go back. You can keep the tricycle. Go and deliver food to Ershun and the others later. I’ll stay with you tonight. Breakfast has to be sold early. The steamed buns are most fragrant when they’re fresh out of the steamer. We have to time it right.”
Yang Yufen raised her hand to check the time.
Gui Xiang looked at Yang Yu Fen with a guilty expression.
"I promised to help you make money, and I won't feel at ease until you do. Okay, hurry up, I still need to dig up the leek roots when I get back. You can dig up this soil later, plant them as soon as possible and harvest them as soon as possible."
After Yang Yufen finished speaking, she washed her hands and hurriedly went home to her family compound.
