Chapter 11 Apology (1/2)

Yang Yufen laughed upon hearing this.

"My only regret is not having a daughter, and raising a son isn't really my own. Luckily, he found me such a gentle, smart, and generous daughter-in-law. I have to raise her like a daughter to make up for my regret."

After Yang Yufen finished speaking, she walked to the front yard with a smile. Qin Nian was waiting at the gate. Qin Nian, who was looking at the grapes, went up to Yang Yufen after seeing her.

"Hello, Aunt Wang, Mom. Did I interrupt your conversation with Aunt Wang?"

"Don't bother me. Let's go home. We have grapes at home. These are still unripe. I'll ask your Aunt Wang for some more after we finish eating them."

Yang Yufen said quite bluntly.

"Yes, yes, if you want to eat, just have your mom cut it. I can't finish all of this anyway."

Aunt Wang smiled broadly.

She couldn't finish the food, and her children and grandchildren weren't around. She wouldn't lack the money from selling the cut pieces. She didn't get along with those shameless people and wasn't willing to share with them. Some offered to trade, but few were willing to part with their food.

However, she particularly liked Yang Yufen because she was not greedy, had strong initiative, and got along well with her, so she was naturally willing to give her money.

"I'm taking my daughter-in-law back now. You should get some rest. Niannian, say goodbye to Aunt Wang."

Like all elders, when introducing younger family members to others, they always offer a word of advice to prevent the younger generation from being unable to recognize people.

"Aunt Wang, my mother and I are going home now."

Qin Nian was also well-behaved.

After the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law returned home and entered the door, Qin Nian finally spoke.

"Mom, why did you kill the laying hen? It would have been so much better if it had kept laying eggs."

After saying that, Qin Nian realized that she had said something wrong; that wasn't what she meant to say.

"They're raised to eat. These chickens don't lay eggs much after a while. Once the chicks are grown up, we'll slaughter them all."

Yang Yufen said indifferently.

Seeing that her mother-in-law didn't want to bring up what happened that afternoon, Qin Nian thought for a moment and then decided not to say anything either.

"Mom has bought so many things for the house, she must not have enough money. I just got my salary today, Mom, take this. Just buy whatever you need. I'm in the lab all day and don't have any money to spend."

Qin Nian took out her salary of 126 yuan and some receipts and stuffed them into Yang Yufen's hand.

"I don't need these. I'll still take twenty. I'll keep the tickets, and you can keep these for yourself."

Yang Yufen didn't say no either.

“Mom doesn’t need to spend her own money to make up for me. Xianjun and I both have salaries, and our daily expenses are not high.”

Qin Nian thought for a moment, then took out three bills and stuffed them into Yang Yufen's hand, making a total of fifty.

Seeing this, Yang Yufen did not refuse.

"I'll collect my military allowance in a few days when I'm done with my work and bring it back to Mom. Mom, go to sleep early, I'll go to sleep early too."

Qin Nian didn't know what to say. She never liked to trouble others and was used to taking care of herself.

"good."

Yang Yufen responded.

Qin Nian breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, her mother-in-law wasn't angry.

Qin Nian slept exceptionally well that night, perhaps because she had taken a nap the previous afternoon and woke up very early in the morning.

Even though they both got up so early, Yang Yufen was still earlier than her.

Chicken noodle soup, one bowl has scallions, the other doesn't.

Qin Nian ate silently, realizing that her mother-in-law didn't eat scallions.

There was another chicken leg at the bottom of the bowl; a chicken has two legs.

Qin Nian picked it up, ready to give it to Yang Yufen.

Yang Yufen picked up the bowl and drank the soup.

"I'm full. I promised you last night, Aunt Wang, so I have to go early."

Yang Yufen pretended not to see Qin Nian's actions and left with the empty bowl. She hadn't boiled any eggs today, since they hadn't finished the whole big chicken.
