Chapter 169 Winning Over the Mother-in-Law (1/2)

"I'm off today. I haven't visited you and your parents in a long time. Would you like to come over for a meal?"

Lin Hui was waiting for Hu Jun downstairs, carrying a bag of canned food and a tin of biscuits.

"Are you sure you want to come to my house for dinner? If nothing unexpected happens, we'll be having dinner at my brother-in-law's house tonight, and maybe my brother-in-law's sworn brother and his family will be there too."

Hu Jun raised an eyebrow.

"So many people! Perfect, I love a lively atmosphere. Aunt Yang even said she would treat me to a meal."

Lin Hui also raised an eyebrow.

"Looks like you really admire your brother-in-law now, calling him so affectionately. Didn't you say you were going to teach him a lesson?"

"What, you haven't given up yet?"

Hu Jun knew his parents' original plans, but he really saw Niannian as his younger sister, his own sister, so it was impossible for him to have any other feelings for her. He also knew that his friend Lin Hui had feelings for Niannian.

However, Lin Hui's parents were not easy to get along with, so he never tried to match them up. Later, in order to get rid of his parents' control, Lin Hui went with him to a remote place to be stationed in the army, but he didn't expect to miss the opportunity.

“Am I that kind of person? Niannian is also my sister, but your brother-in-law is just too easy. He needs to feel a little threatened so that he can treat our sister better.”

Lin Hui did not hide his purpose.

"Since you want to go, then go. My parents probably miss you too."

Lin Hui could have taken a different path, without having to endure the hardships of military service, but he chose the most difficult yet simplest way to escape his parents' control.

"Luckily I brought a lot of things, so it won't take up much time. Let's go."

Lin Hui carried the things and walked alongside Hu Jun.

"I'll do it, you can talk to Niannian and the others."

Shen Xianjun was cooking in the kitchen wearing an apron when Professor Wen came in to help.

"Are you really okay on your own?"

Professor Wen was a little worried. Niannian and Fan Juan were talking about serious matters. Professor Wen was originally there to look after the children, but they all ran off to play together. When she saw Shen Xianjun return, she thought she would help with the cooking.

"Don't worry, I've worked in the mess hall before. Although I can't say I'm as good as my mom, I can definitely cook some home-style meals."

Shen Xianjun chopped the lamb chops in a few quick movements, added water and ginger slices to the pot, and also cut the radish into chunks. It looked quite presentable.

Shen Xianjun dared not ask his mother-in-law for help. He quickly prepared everything himself, making sure his mother-in-law didn't feel overwhelmed.

Seeing that he couldn't get involved, Professor Wen simply walked out.

"Niannian, your man can cook? That's amazing!"

Hearing the noise outside and seeing that Qin Nian hadn't moved, Fan Juan couldn't help but speak up.

“I’m not very good at cooking. My mom usually cooks. When Xianjun is home, my mom always asks him to cook, so that’s how it’s always been at home.”

Qin Nian was slightly embarrassed.

"That's great. Aunt Yang really knows how to discipline people. And let me tell you, the fact that the man can cook is definitely a big plus."

Shen Xianjun washed some fruit, thinking he would let people have something to eat first. He happened to hear this, and Professor Wen, who was also nearby, couldn't help but laugh.

"I'll take it in, you continue cooking."

Professor Wen took the fruit.

"I'm fine."

Shen Xianjun felt light on his feet, and while cooking, he was so happy that he felt like a master chef, determined to use all his skills.

Is the current military personnel at home?

Commander Liao was being pushed by his son to open the door, even though it was wide open.

"Old leader, you've arrived! Yuanjie, come and help!"

Shen Xianjun appeared in a flash, greeted them, and then pulled Liao Yuanjie into the kitchen.

"Grandpa Liao!"

Upon hearing Commander Liao's voice, several children from the neighboring courtyard immediately ran out.
