Spring rain is as precious as oil. Everyone covered themselves with transparent oilcloth and wore straw hats to plant the fruit seedlings as quickly as possible.
Students from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences also came to help, carefully digging out the fruit seedlings. After all the seedlings were cleared away, the land would be planted with other crops.
Because the roads were muddy from the rain, even old oxen had difficulty walking, so these quick-witted agricultural students helped transport the fruit seedlings back and forth.
"Is the ginger and brown sugar water ready? I'll take it to the foot of the mountain so that all the children can have a bowl."
Yang Yufen rode her tricycle back, and before even entering the canteen, she started shouting at the top of her lungs. She got off the tricycle and wiped the soles of her shoes clean in the rain before going in.
"Alright, alright, the pot is still simmering. I'll make sure there's a constant supply of ginger and brown sugar water for the next few days."
Old Zhou brought out the ginger and brown sugar water and put it in the car, covering it with an oilcloth to prevent it from getting wet and cooling down too quickly.
"Okay, I'll come back to get lunch later."
Yang Yufen took all the teacups she used to use when she sold roasted pears with her, and rode off in a flurry.
Old Zhou also hurriedly went into the kitchen to cook. There were steamed buns in the steamer. After the plump buns were steamed, they were poured out and wrapped directly on the steaming cloth and put into the foam box, stacked one on top of the other.
To ensure everyone's energy, the meals consist of three dishes: one meat and two vegetable dishes. The food is cooked and poured into a large bucket, then distributed directly with a large ladle. This way, everyone doesn't have to run to the canteen. There are also sheds set up at the foot of the mountain for people to eat while sheltered from the rain.
Aunt Wang was waiting in the shed. When she saw Yang Yufen arrive, she quickly went to help carry the ginger and brown sugar water down the mountain. Then she watched as Yang Yufen led the rest of the boat up the mountain, where there was another shed.
"Xiao Zhang, the ginger tea is here. Take it and tell everyone to drink it while it's hot. I'll go bring the rice up."
As soon as Yang Yufen called out, Xiao Zhang quickly ran over to help, carrying a jug to distribute ginger tea to everyone, and also called people back to eat and rest for a while.
"The mountain road is so slippery that it's hard to walk on. Only Aunt Yang is really brave. She dared to drive her tricycle straight up the mountain."
Everyone drinking ginger tea was filled with admiration as they watched Yang Yufen's retreating figure.
"If I can be as healthy and strong as this old lady when I get old, I'll open one too!"
"Hey, you've got some big ambitions, but Auntie's physical condition is really much better than ours. No way, we're agricultural students, how can we lose to Auntie? We still haven't trained enough. After these fruit trees are planted, I'm definitely going to apply for an extra three-tenths of an acre of land this year!"
“You’re the one who dares to dream. I don’t ask for much; even a little more land would be fine.”
Grandma Wang looked at the group of young children and was happy to listen to them talk.
The orchard, covering nearly 100 acres, was finally planted after a month of rushing around since the beginning of March.
The heavens were kind enough to grant us some rain, which fell several times during the month. Although none of the rain was particularly heavy, the soil was moist, which increased the survival rate of the fruit trees.
Even after it rains, the grass grows very quickly. Weeding is the next thing to do after planting the fruit trees, otherwise the grass will steal all the nutrients from the seedlings.
With the warm April sun shining, all the heavy winter clothes could be put away in the closet. Qin Nian carried a heavy machine back to Professor Wen's house and finally managed to install it after some fiddling.
"Niannian, did your research group create this?"
Professor Wen looked at the new machine in the study, pushed up his glasses, and examined it carefully.
"Yes, I'd like to let a few children try it out first. Madam, let me teach you how to use it. The children study here on weekdays, so it'll be more convenient."
Qin Nian turned on the device and, seeing the screen indicating successful startup, breathed a sigh of relief.
"Yes, it's definitely time to start with the children; they are the future of our country."
"Several children are practicing typing. It's not difficult to learn, but it's difficult to use computer programs for programming."
Qin Nian tapped her fingers on the keyboard, then made room for Professor Wen to sit down.
"We are not afraid of difficulties. No matter how many difficulties we face, we have come this far."
"Yes, this is for office use. You can use it to write documents. There's also a Minesweeper mini-game where you can find patterns. It's great for educational play."
The children came home from school and didn't see anyone.
"Where's Grandma? The gate to the yard is open, she shouldn't be out."
Li Wu's head darted around, searching for Professor Wen.
There's a sound coming from the study.
