Pushing open the door, I felt a chill in the air and my heart skipped a beat.
"Wang Dameizi? Wang Dameizi, what's wrong?"
A bulge in the blankets inside the room proves that someone is alive.
Yang Yufen reached out and touched it; it was burning hot to the touch, but the quilt was ice cold.
"Hang in there, Wang Damei! I'll take you to the hospital!"
Yang Yufen picked up the person, blanket and all, and rushed out the door to put them in the tricycle.
He rushed all the way to the security office.
"Hurry up and give it to me. Oh, how could I forget to ask my nephew's name?"
Yang Yufen called out half a sentence before she realized what was happening. Fortunately, the security team saw that something was wrong and had already run over.
"Call her son immediately, she's sick. I'll take her to the hospital first, the Third People's Hospital! Remember that!"
Yang Yufen pulled a familiar person over to look at Wang Da Niang's appearance. After the person nodded, she quickly pedaled away on her tricycle.
Yang Yufen was familiar with the Third People's Hospital, as it was the closest hospital to her.
Yang Yufen pedaled her bike all the way to the entrance of the outpatient building.
"Doctor! Nurse! Help!"
Yang Yufen ran in and shouted, then ran out and carried the person out.
Hearing the noise, the hospital nurses quickly sprang into action, skillfully pulling out a hospital bed and catching Yang Yufen as she was carried in and placed on it.
The doctor examined the patient and took him to the ward, asking him questions as he went.
“I went to call for help early this morning, but I couldn’t hear anything, so I went in and saw her like this. She was still breathing, so I brought her here immediately. Her son is a professor at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. I called him, but he probably won’t be able to get here so quickly.”
"The patient was elderly and developed a high fever, so we paid the fees and admitted him to the hospital."
After a flurry of activity, Yang Yufen was thankful that her daughter-in-law had slipped some money into her pocket that morning, otherwise she wouldn't have brought any money with her.
Yang Yufen didn't know what kind of tests were being done, but seeing the doctor's nervous expression, she was very worried and handed over all the 100 yuan her daughter-in-law had given her.
Wang Shuo from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences was extremely anxious after receiving the call. He didn't care about his students and tripped twice on the way to the parking shed. He then pushed his bicycle out and headed straight for the Third People's Hospital.
He didn't even park his bicycle properly; he just left it in the snow and rushed into the hospital.
"An elderly woman surnamed Wang was brought in this morning. I am her son. Where is she now?"
When Wang Shuo came over, the person had just been taken away for examination and had been put on an IV drip.
"Nephew, here you go. The doctor has finished the examination, given me a fever-reducing injection and started an IV drip. This is the payment slip; I paid 100 yuan. I have to go back to cook for my daughter-in-law. You take care of her for now, I'll be back in a bit."
When Yang Yufen saw Wang Shuo arrive, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, ma'am."
Wang Shuo didn't know what to say, and Yang Yufen didn't linger. Wang Shuo was also eager to check on his elderly mother's condition.
Yang Yufen hurriedly pedaled her tricycle home, cooked dinner, then went to Aunt Wang's house, took the key from the door, and locked all the doors.
Fortunately, there were plenty of lunchboxes at home. Yang Yufen packed one for Qin Nian and another for Wang Da Niang and her son. She ate a simple meal herself and then went to deliver the food.
When Yang Yufen went to the hospital again, Aunt Wang had already woken up.
"Little sister, thank you so much this time. If it weren't for you, I might..."
Aunt Wang was also terrified. She had just caught a cold, but then she developed a fever. It snowed last night, and when she was too weak to call for help, she couldn't even manage to. She vaguely heard voices calling her, but she couldn't respond at all.
