"This is the child's room, and this is the master bedroom. I'll get you a basin of water so you can wipe yourself down, change your clothes, and rest. I'll go help Mom."
Qin Nian didn't want to hurt her mother-in-law's feelings, so she finally decided to let Shen Xianjun sleep in the same room with her. They were husband and wife, and she was just not used to having a stranger by her side, but she had no intention of getting a divorce.
"Okay, I didn't bring any clothes."
Shen Xianjun hadn't expected the child wouldn't sleep with him; he had thought the bed was wide enough that he could squeeze in even more.
"Mom asked me to buy this for you. I haven't had time to wash it yet, so please make do with it for now."
Qin Nian took out the bag of clothes, then folded her quilt and took another one out of the closet and put it on the bed.
Fortunately, my mother-in-law had built me a big bed, so we could each sleep in our own space without feeling cramped.
Qin Nian brought the water over and then closed the door and left. Shen Xianjun's hands and feet were not injured, and he was in good health, so he didn't need anyone to help him.
Shen Xianjun quickly wiped himself clean, looked at the clothes Qin Nian had bought for him, and took them out to wear.
The clothes are a bit small and form-fitting, but wearable. The pants are long enough, but the waist is too wide. There's no belt, so you'll have to use a leather belt.
However, he was preparing to sleep, so he figured he might as well be a little more relaxed.
The soft, sun-scented blankets, not the disinfectant of a hospital, nor the tense environment, allowed Shen Xianjun to fall asleep almost immediately, snoring softly but not noisily.
Qin Nian quietly carried the basin away; this was fine.
The two children's room is next to the master bedroom, while Yang Yufen's room is next to the kitchen. Some noises from the master bedroom don't reach Yang Yufen's room.
Shen Xianjun was dreaming that he was floating on the sea when he suddenly felt an itch in his nose. He opened his eyes abruptly and his hands moved unconsciously until the child started crying loudly.
"Daddy's bad! Daddy's bad! Waaah~ Grandma~ Mommy~"
Da Bao's loud crying immediately attracted Qin Nian and Yang Yufen, who then saw Shen Xianjun holding the child in his arms.
"Don't cry, don't cry. A real man doesn't shed tears, but bleeds. You're the one who ambushed your father, why are you crying?"
Qin Nian reached out and picked up Da Bao, afraid that Da Bao would press on Chen Xianjun's wound. She said she could ask him anything later.
Yang Yufen glared at Shen Xianjun.
"Here, dried sweet potato, this is the last bit."
As the weather warmed up, the dried sweet potatoes were running out. Yang Yufen divided the last bit of dried sweet potatoes in two, giving one to Da Bao and the other to Er Bao.
Da Bao's wailing stopped immediately, and he happily blew snot bubbles while holding the dried sweet potato.
Ever since my aunt said that eating too much sugar would damage their teeth, my grandma has been controlling their snack intake.
"Are you alright?"
Seeing that her mother-in-law was only focused on coaxing the child, Qin Nian had no choice but to ask Shen Xianjun herself.
"It's nothing, I was just sleeping when this brat climbed up and scared him."
Shen Xianjun's instinctive reaction was that he had come to his senses by now.
“How can a grown man scare little kids like that? Da Bao and Er Bao, let’s go. Grandma will take you to play with your sister Yao Yao. Your brother Zheng Hao is there too. He should have finished his homework by now.”
Fang Fen has now been transferred to teach at this elementary school, and she happens to be in charge of teaching the grade that Hu Zhenghao is in. So, she came over to play on Sunday and did her homework at the same time.
Yang Yufen was talking when Yao Yao and Hu Zhenghao arrived.
"Little brothers, come on, big brother will take you to play!"
"Yay!"
Da Bao pulled Er Bao along and happily followed his older brother and sister out the door.
Qin Nian looked at her somewhat embarrassed husband, thought for a moment, and then spoke up.
