Qin Nian grabbed the child and left, ignoring Shen Xianjun's shocked gaze. She was afraid that if she walked too slowly, Shen Xianjun would beg her to return the book.
Ever since Hu Jun arrived, Yang Yufen has been putting her clothes in the washing machine and then going to the backyard to tend to the vegetable garden and feed the chickens. She's busy for two or three hours at a time, and then she goes straight back to the kitchen.
There are still some leftovers from last night, enough to cook some noodles.
"Dinner's ready."
Yang Yufen shouted, and Shen Xianjun came out of the house looking utterly hopeless.
"Such a light lunch?"
Shen Xianjun looked at the noodles in front of him, then at the noodles in front of Yang Yufen.
"We have vegetables, eggs, and thin white noodles. Do you want to eat dragon meat? When did the army start having picky eating habits? Take it or leave it."
Yang Yufen added chili oil to her food; her daughter-in-law doesn't eat spicy food, so she made it for herself.
"Mom, can you share some with me?"
Shen Xianjun stared longingly at the chili oil and spoke.
"The doctor said you can't eat it, why are you so greedy?"
Yang Yufen put the chili oil away and then ate her noodles with gusto.
Shen Xianjun suddenly felt that this was more painful than being in the hospital. The food in the hospital was bland, and everyone's food was about the same. Now he could only look but not eat. The stark contrast made him want to eat leftovers!
Yang Yufen finished eating and put away her bowl. Shen Xianjun just wanted something with a stronger flavor; he wasn't really a picky eater. Besides, wasting food was wrong.
"Focus on your reading, and don't let your father-in-law and brother-in-law down. I won't disturb you while you read; I'm going to chat with your Aunt Wang."
After leaving a single sentence, Yang Yufen left decisively, only returning after cooking dinner. This continued every day until she went to the hospital for a follow-up examination.
Be careful on the road.
Yang Yufen watched Qin Nian accompany Shen Xianjun to the follow-up examination. Originally, Qin Nian had not asked for leave, but Dean Hu notified her to take leave.
“Niannian, you and Xianjun are husband and wife, and you even have a child. Husband and wife can’t be so distant. Although your mother-in-law is mediating, you still need to get along with each other. Xianjun is going to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow, you should go with him.”
Qin Nian knew this was wrong, so she didn't make excuses and obediently nodded.
"The recovery is going well. If you're going on a long trip, rest for another half month and then come back for a check-up. Try to avoid any pulling or impacts."
After a thorough examination, the doctor nodded in approval.
"Doctor, do I still need to avoid certain foods?"
Shen Xianjun couldn't wait to ask.
"You should still be careful, unless you don't want to go back to the army."
The doctor explained what they needed to be careful about and then let the two leave.
"Hey, honey, I need to talk to you about something."
Shen Xianjun finally realized that his wife's words and his mother's attitude towards him were completely different from how they were towards him. He was like an adopted child, while his wife was like his mother's biological daughter.
However, he knew that his mother had said before that she wanted a sweet and caring daughter and that she preferred girls to boys.
"What's up?"
Qin Nian was puzzled.
"Tell Mom not to make noodles for lunch every day. I'm tired of it."
Why don't you just tell Mom directly? Mom is very easy to talk to.
Qin Nian found it strange.
Shen Xianjun's resentment surged out immediately.
"That was for you. Never mind, let's not talk about that. Tell Mom for me not to say that I said it."
"But I don't eat lunch at home."
Qin Nian's words stunned Shen Xianjun.
"Oh right, you don't eat at home, so saying that will give you away."
