Hu Zhenghao and Li Wen followed them into the house. The three black lumps stood in a row in the yard, and Professor Wen and Yang Yufen almost didn't recognize them.
"You got a tan last year too, how come you're so tanned this year?"
Yang Yufen blurted out, and Professor Wen couldn't help but laugh out loud upon hearing this.
"It is indeed dark, especially against the backdrop of a set of white teeth. If it were nighttime, you wouldn't be able to see anyone at all."
Hu Zhenghao and his two companions looked at each other. They were all used to being together every day, and the instructors were the same. No one felt anything was wrong.
"Grandma, it smells so good! What did you cook?"
Upon smelling the fragrance, Li Wu immediately regained his composure.
"You must be hungry. Wash your hands and get ready to eat. I've made braised fish and steamed buns, they'll be ready in a minute."
Yang Yufen rubbed Li Wu's head, then looked at Li Wen, touched him, and then turned to go to the kitchen.
Yang Yufen watched as the three children, one adult and three children, devoured their food from their bowls. They had already eaten three steamed buns and still had one in their hand. The way they ate fish without picking out the bones and spitting them out was as if they were starving.
"Eat slowly, eat slowly, be careful it's hot."
Professor Wen watched with a pained expression.
"Delicious, so delicious!"
Li Wu took a moment to say something, then buried his head in his food and continued eating.
Shen Xianjun didn't say anything, but with a flick of his chopsticks, he put a large piece of fish into his mouth.
"Eat slowly, Grandma will kill a chicken and steam egg custard for you tonight."
Looking at the children's enthusiasm for eating, Yang Yufen couldn't help but recall when Niannian had just returned from abroad.
She initially thought that with such a big fish, both families could eat it together and there would be no need to cook dinner, but now she has misjudged her child's appetite.
"Mom, this fish soup would be great for making noodles too."
Shen Xianjun looked up and said something.
"You, as an adult, should give way to the child."
Yang Yufen said something with disdain.
"Grandma, I want to eat fish soup noodles."
Li Wu spoke up, and Li Wen looked at Yang Yufen with anticipation. Hu Zhenghao touched his stomach.
"Can you still eat? Don't overeat."
Yang Yufen was somewhat worried.
"Grandma Yang, we can eat. We ate more at the camp!"
Hu Zhenghao spoke up, saying he was only half full, and he could go for a run later.
"Okay, wait a moment."
Yang Yufen turned around and went to the kitchen again. Noodles were the fastest way to cook them. She boiled water, put the noodles in the pot, cooked them until soft, scooped them into a bowl, and took them out. She then poured them directly into the fish soup.
Shen Xianjun stirred the mixture with chopsticks, and the children all reached out to scoop the food into the bowl.
"Is life in the military really that tough?"
Yang Yufen couldn't help but be surprised, thinking back to when Shen Xianjun first came home from the army, he had gained weight.
"It's not bitter, it's a lot of fun, and Grandma's cooking is so delicious."
Li Wen finished eating first; his appetite wasn't as big as Li Wu's.
"Are you full? Wouldn't you like some more?"
Yang Yufen looked at the baby's belly.
"I'm full, Grandma. I miss you so much."
Liwen grabbed Yang Yufen's hand.
"Grandma misses you all too. You've grown taller, your sleeves are so short now, and your shoes are too small."
Yang Yufen noticed it very quickly.
"Grandma will take you to buy clothes and shoes tomorrow."
"Grandma is so kind."
Li Wu also put down his bowl, and Chen Xianjun finished up.
The children divided the tasks, washing dishes and tidying the table, and then lay down on the bamboo beds one by one, enjoying the fan and eating the ice cream that Yang Yufen had bought for them.
"Wow, it's so comfortable at home."
