Chapter 372: If you want to survive in the group, you must have a backer (Script 7)
The raindrops hit the container like beads that had broken off the string, making a dense hammering sound. Li Zheng was huddled in the shadow of the abandoned container at the dock, with an unlit cigarette in his mouth.
This was the thirty-seventh day since he joined the Shadow Group. The gunshot wound on his right shoulder had scabbed over, but the bruise on his back still ached.
"Cheer up, everyone!"
The voice of Scarred Man, one of the underlings of the Shadow Group, came through the intercom and reached everyone's ears: "This batch of goods is worth 20 million. If anything goes wrong, I will skin you alive!"
Li Zheng adjusted his headset, and the rain flowed down his temples into his collar. Tonight was an important transaction between the Shadow Group and the South American drug lords. He was assigned to the second line of defense, an insignificant position. He couldn't even see the transaction scene.
Confirmation sounds came one after another in the headset. Li Zheng roughly counted and found that there were at least fifteen armed men.
"Team A is in place."
"Team B is in place."
"Group C...wait, what is that—"
Suddenly, a sharp electric sound burst out from their walkie-talkie, followed by a deafening explosion.
Li Zheng suddenly looked up and saw a fireball rising on the east side of the pier, illuminating the five black SUVs speeding towards him in the rainy night.
"The bastard from the Qinglong Gang!"
The scarred man cursed as gunshots rang out, "Everyone, defend! Protect the guy—"
There was another explosion, and the intercom was completely silent.
Li Zheng's heart started beating wildly.
He subconsciously reached for his pistol, but his fingers stopped when they touched the cold metal.
As a policeman, he hoped that both of them would suffer losses; but as an undercover agent, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show his abilities.
The container area has become chaotic.
Li Zheng crouched down as he walked through the rain. In the light of the fire, he saw six or seven people from the Shadow Group trapped in a blind spot in the container. Bullets hit the metal, splashing a series of sparks, and countless corpses lay on the ground.
"Brother Yu was shot!"
I saw someone shouting loudly.
Li Zheng's pupils suddenly shrank. He risked looking out and saw a man in a black windbreaker leaning against a container thirty meters away, covering his left shoulder with his right hand, and dark liquid oozing out from between his fingers.
"We need to break out!"
The scarred man's right arm was bloody, but he was still directing them, "Along, take two people from the west side--"
"That's suicide."
Li Zheng suddenly said, "There are three machine guns crossfire on the west side. They left a gap on purpose."
The scarred man narrowed his eyes: "What do you think?"
Li Zheng's brain was working rapidly.
The street fighting training he had experienced in the SWAT team three years ago came to mind.
"East side."
Li Zheng pointed at the explosion site and said calmly, "They came from that side, so they must have cleared the route. The sound of the explosion has already attracted the attention of the police. They have at most eight minutes."
"Are you crazy? That's all—"
“The most dangerous place is the safest place.”
Li Zheng had already squatted beside Lu Yu and quickly checked his wound.
The bullet got stuck near Lu Yu's clavicle. Although it did not damage the artery, he suffered severe blood loss.
Li Zheng's expression became serious. He said seriously, "Brother Yu needs to be treated immediately. If we delay for another half an hour, he will go into shock."
Lu Yu suddenly grabbed Li Zheng's wrist.
The man's face was pale, but his eyes were as calm as ever. He looked up at Li Zheng opposite him and asked, "Do you know medicine?"
“I’ve learned a little bit.”
Li Zheng answered briefly.
As he spoke, he tore off the hem of his shirt to make a makeshift bandage.
"Just do as Jung says."
Lu Yu ordered weakly but clearly.
When Li Zheng suddenly heard his name from Lu Yu's mouth, he felt an indescribable strange feeling in his heart.
He shook his head and put these thoughts behind him.
Li Zheng treated Lu Yu's wound briefly, and he led the way with the help of the dock map he remembered.
The members of the Shadow Group sneaked close to the burning container and brushed past the patrol team of the Qinglong Gang twice.
The most dangerous moments occur around the bends.
They saw five fully armed enemies searching in their direction, and the injured Lu Yu suddenly stumbled and knocked over an empty oil barrel.
The sound of rolling metal was particularly harsh in the rainy night.
"there!"
Li Zheng's reaction was faster than he thought.
He pushed Lu Yu into the gap of the container, turned around and fired three shots. The first shot extinguished the street lamp, the second shot hit the leader's knee, and the third shot accurately hit the submachine gun in the hand of another person.
The sudden darkness and chaos gave them a chance to breathe.
"Walk!"
Li Zheng grabbed Lu Yu and rushed the last 100 meters under the cover of others. The sound of sirens could be heard from a distance, and the Qinglong Gang began to retreat.
When they finally arrived at the safe house, Lu Yu was almost unconscious.
Li Zheng didn't care about the blood on his hands and performed a simple operation with kitchen knives and a lighter to remove the bullet.
Lu Yu bit two wooden chopsticks into pieces without making a sound.
"Why risk saving me?"
After the operation, Lu Yu asked weakly.
There were only two of them in the safe house, and the desk lamp cast a hazy golden edge on Lu Yu's outline.
Li Zheng wrung out the blood-stained towel and explained with a smile, "If you want to make it in the group, you need someone to back you up."
Lu Yu chuckled and suddenly started coughing violently.
As Li Zheng supported him, he noticed a strange scar on the man's lower back. It looked like a bullet wound, but the shape was so regular that it almost looked like...
Silhouette of police badge.
The thought was extinguished as soon as it came to mind.
Lu Yu is the second-in-command of the Shadow Group. How could his identity be related to "police"?
"Starting tomorrow."
Lu Yu interrupted Li Zheng's thoughts and said, "Transfer to my side. I'll say hello to you."
Li Zheng lowered his head and said "yes".
Outside the window, the rain stopped.
The first rays of morning light filtered through the blinds, stretching the shadows of the two men, each with their own thoughts, very long, interweaving into a blurred gray on the wall.
