Chapter 16 Warehouse Turmoil

As Xia He was storing the goods into her spatial storage in the warehouse compartment, she heard two little dogs barking outside the warehouse. The barking wasn't the happy barking they had just made while running around; instead, it was a series of threatening barks, with low growls constantly emanating from their throats. Xia He quickly went out to check.

As she went outside, she saw two little ones yelling at a shifty-eyed man. The man was about to kick them away and head towards the warehouse. Seeing this, Xia He quickly went over to call the two children back, then looked at the shifty-eyed man. The man said, "I'm Zhang Kai, a villager from Xingfu Village nearby. I originally thought this warehouse was unused, but I've seen large trucks coming and going here every day recently, so I came out of curiosity to take a look. I mean no harm, don't worry!"

Xia He could tell from the man's face that he wasn't a good person, so she said, "My company recently rented this warehouse, and there will be a lot of supplies coming in and out. So you'll have to get used to it. Don't come to the warehouse unnecessarily. You can see for yourself, there are vicious dogs inside. We're not responsible if they bite or kill you."

The man didn't speak, but circled the warehouse a few more times before leaving. After he left, Xia He was worried about the warehouse's security, so she installed several hidden cameras around it to monitor the situation at any time. Then she quickly finished collecting all the packages from the warehouse, stuffing them into her spatial storage without even opening them, and left with her dog. On her way, she stopped by Happiness Village, which the man had mentioned. The village wasn't big; you could see the end of it at a glance. But it had a lot of fruit trees, basically all the common varieties you could find in the world.

So Xiahe took the two little ones and prepared to go to the orchard in the village. Just then, an old man riding a tricycle came towards Xiahe on the road. The road was downhill, and the old man shouted in his hoarse voice, "Girl! Get out of the way! My brakes have failed, I can't stop!"

However, from Xia He's perspective, although the tricycle couldn't stop, the old man couldn't pedal fast enough due to his physical limitations. So, Xia He quickly moved to the side, and just as the old man, startled, lost control of the steering wheel and almost fell into the ditch, Xia He grabbed the railing at the back of the tricycle, bringing it to a steady stop 5 centimeters from the ditch.

As Xia He marveled at how her strength had suddenly increased, the old man spoke up, "Young lady, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I don't know if I would have survived today. I don't have anything to repay you with, but these are oranges I grew myself. They're very delicious, juicy and sweet. I hope you won't mind." Before Xia He could even ponder why her strength had increased, a peeled orange appeared in her hand. Xia He didn't refuse; she simply took it, broke it open, and ate one!

Upon tasting it, Xia He was stunned. Just as the old man had said, the oranges were juicy and sweet. Xia He then asked, "Grandpa, do you grow these oranges? Do you grow a lot? Can you take me to see them? My company is currently purchasing fruit, and I think these oranges are very delicious. I would like to buy a large quantity."

Upon hearing that he wanted to buy some, the old man hurriedly said, "My family doesn't grow much because it's just my wife and me. Both of our sons have passed away, so we don't have any labor. We can only grow a little to sell and make a living. But other families in my village grow a lot. I can take you to see them. We also have other fruits."

Xia He listened to the old man's description. At first, it didn't seem like a big deal that it was just him and his wife. But when Xia He followed the old man to his house, she was stunned. She saw a dilapidated mud house. The mud house wasn't big, with only four rooms. The old man said, "Young lady, please don't mind. There are four rooms in the house. Two of them were originally for my two sons, but now that they're gone, they're used to store grain and oranges. There's one kitchen and one room for my wife and me. Young lady, there's no other place to sit in my house. Please sit in my room first. There are some chairs. I'll go get you some oranges and call the village chief for you."

As he was talking, he called his wife out of the room and said that a distinguished guest had arrived and that they should be treated well. He hurriedly stuffed an orange into Xia He's hand and then ran out with his short legs.
