Chapter 192 The Essence of Metallic Animals

The convoy continued its journey. Since Xiao Lin demonstrated his spatial abilities, everything seemed to be going much more smoothly. After Xiao Lin, Xia He, and the two little ones got into the car, Xia He took out some rice balls and meat buns from her spatial storage. She gave some to Xiao Lin, who was driving, and some to the two little ones in the back seat. She munched on a tuna rice ball herself. The panda smelled the hot buns and its mouth watered. It swallowed a bun in just a few bites.

Xia He gave some more dried meat to the panda and Tangyuan. She really felt that if things continued like this, she wouldn't be able to support them anymore. The reason was simple: they were eating too much and it was too vulgar. Although there were countless supplies in her space, she couldn't just sit around and eat them all up.

Xiao Lin was eating a meat bun while driving, feeling incredibly happy and content.

With a beautiful woman by your side and hot food in your hands, this kind of life must be unique in the apocalypse.

The vehicle was moving at a steady pace. It had set off around noon, and now it was about 8 p.m. A message came from Haidong ahead: "Boss, we are 500 meters away from our destination."

Xiao Lin used his mental detection to search the surrounding environment, but found no problems for the time being.

In no time, the convoy arrived at the gas station. Xiao Lin and his group got out of the car. The two little ones, Tangyuan, sat on the panda's back, while the panda followed Xia He happily.

A distinctive, decaying odor permeated the area around the gas station. Having withstood the test of the apocalypse, it was now a scene of devastation. The once pristine ground was eroded beyond recognition; oil stains and acid rain had stripped it of its original color, leaving it dark and gloomy.

The oil tanks were long rusted, their surfaces covered with spots of rust, and in some places even broken, exposing the corroded metal inside. The once vibrant lettering on the gas station sign had been blurred and indistinct by the wind and rain, like an abandoned time tunnel that had swallowed up its past glory.

A somber atmosphere permeated the surrounding air, with the occasional whistling of the wind adding to the profound silence of the ruins.

Just as Hai Dong and his group were in despair, Xiao Lin launched a mental search. His mental power penetrated the surface of the abandoned gas station and went deep underground to sense the surrounding environment.

Soon, his mental power discovered the underground oil storage tanks. Although the gas station appeared dilapidated, the underground tanks seemed to still contain some oil. This discovery brought a hint of joy to Xiao Lin's eyes.

"I discovered an oil storage tank underground, and there might still be some oil left. We can try to retrieve it," Xiao Lin quickly told everyone.

Upon hearing the news, Hai Dong immediately led some of his team members to the location indicated by Xiao Lin.

Under the cover of night, the ruins of the gas station looked even more eerie, but everyone clung to a sliver of hope, expecting to find enough fuel in the storage tanks.

After searching for a while, the group finally found the entrance to the underground oil storage tank in a corner of the gas station. The tank door was rusty and looked like it hadn't been opened for a long time.

"Be careful, check for traps," Xiao Lin warned. Although the ruins looked like they hadn't been visited in a long time, caution was always the most important thing in the post-apocalyptic world.

Hai Dong nodded, and his team quickly checked the surroundings. After confirming that there was nothing unusual, they began to help open the tank door. The door was heavy, but with everyone working together, they finally managed to open it a crack.

The moment it was opened, a strong smell of oil filled the air.

Xiao Lin walked to the oil tank and gently touched the tank wall with his mental energy to check the situation inside. Then, he nodded, indicating that everyone could begin extracting the oil.

Hai Dong and his team quickly found suitable tools and began digging into the soil around the oil storage tanks. Many of the tools in the ruins were old and broken, but nothing could deter their determination.

During the excavation, the soil gradually loosened, revealing the surface of the oil storage tank. No one dared to slacken their efforts; although the excavation was arduous, their burning desire kept them going.

When the edge of the jar emerged from the ground, a sense of excitement filled the crowd.

The team continued digging until the entire oil tank was completely exposed. The tank opening was heavily rusted, but judging from the dents on the surface of the tank, there did not appear to be any obvious damage.

"Let's start extracting the oil." The oil storage tanks are too big; if we move them back to the base, there simply won't be enough space there. So we have to put the oil in small containers.

Xiao Lin took out many oil cans from his spatial storage and distributed them to everyone. Once a can was full, Xiao Lin put it into his spatial storage.

This approach ensured that the entire process was orderly and efficient, without wasting any time.

As the oil was continuously poured into small buckets, barrels of black gold were successfully stored. Although the oil storage tanks had a huge capacity, the oil extraction work was quickly completed thanks to the efficient work of everyone involved.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when the last barrel of oil was successfully retrieved.

After checking the surroundings and confirming that there was no oil left, Xiao Lin signaled everyone to get in the car and continue on their way. Time was running out for Xiao Lin and his group, so they had to hurry and leave.

Hai Dong arrived at the next gas station. The small gas stations along the way had long been dug up. Xiao Lin and his group were heading to large oil fields, so the distances between them were very far. Before the apocalypse, it would have taken at least half a day, let alone now. The road surface was uneven after being washed by acid rain, and it was very dark around them, making it difficult to see the road ahead. In addition, the map was a pre-apocalyptic map, and the city in front of them was already devastated. Therefore, the convoy was moving very slowly.
