In her dream, Xia He seemed to have returned to her past life.
Xia He ran with Tang Yuan, falling down but getting up again to keep running, but people kept chasing her from behind.
They were carrying large machetes and wanted to take away Tangyuan so they could have a good meal of meat. If he were caught by them, his fate wouldn't be any better!
They probably won't escape the fate of being devoured.
In her dream, Xia He kept running, and even when she was exhausted, she couldn't stop, because if she stopped, she would be caught by the people behind her.
So Xia He dared not stop. Gradually, she became exhausted and slowed down, eventually falling heavily to the ground.
Xia He looked at Tangyuan, who was so thin she was just skin and bones in her arms, and thought, "This is where we are in this life. If there is an afterlife, don't follow me anymore. Go find a capable master."
As Xia He lay on the ground awaiting death, a voice rang in her ears: "You've run for so long, are you just going to give up like this?"
Xia He raised her tired eyes and saw a handsome, cold face with black hair and dark eyes, dressed in a black outfit.
His clean and tidy appearance seemed out of place in the post-apocalyptic world.
After that, Xia He couldn't remember what happened. She only knew that when she woke up again, Tangyuan was licking her face. She got up and found herself in a cave with some water and food beside her.
"Was it that boy who saved me?"
But what exactly happened?
Before Xia He could continue thinking, she was awakened by the cries of the two little ones.
But the image of the boy kept appearing in my mind, and I wondered what happened to him. After all, he was my savior; if I were to meet him again in this life, I would definitely repay him properly.
I discovered that it was still raining outside, and even heavier than yesterday!
The sky looked like it had a hole in it, dark and gloomy, which made people feel very depressed, especially since Xia He was in the highest point of the entire community.
Looking down, it felt like I was standing inside a water curtain cave, with rain pouring down like a waterfall outside the window, and no living person could be seen on the road.
However, some corpses could be seen floating on the water, drifting away with the current to an unknown destination.
Most of the items were animal carcasses. Xia He, holding binoculars, saw a black cat struggling to get ashore in the rain. Its fur was soaked, and the fur on its head was pressed tightly against its scalp, revealing two large, frightened eyes. It was curled up and waving its paws, trying to find a place to rest.
But such a struggle is meaningless. Even humans cannot resist natural disasters, let alone animals.
Soon, the black cat could no longer struggle and choked on water. After a few more desperate thrashings, it sank into the water. A little while later, the black cat's body floated to the surface, drifting aimlessly like most corpses, its destination unknown.
Xia He watched all of this with a cold eye, but she was powerless to do anything about it, because she knew she couldn't change anything.
So she started to give up. Yesterday's experience was still lingering in Xia He's mind. The shock of surviving the ordeal made Xia He determined to stay home as much as possible.
Since the natural disaster has started ahead of schedule, Xia He should just lie down and relax with her two little ones in this apocalypse. In her previous life, Xia He was busy with work and didn't have much time to spend with Tang Yuan. Most of the time, Tang Yuan was like a left-behind dog, lying at the door waiting for Xia He to come home.
Thinking of this, Xia He suddenly felt a surge of maternal love and picked up Tangyuan, giving him a few kisses. Tangyuan looked on in confusion and asked, "What's wrong with my meal ticket? Why is she suddenly acting like this?"
